R.J. Umberger is an American professional hockey player currently playing for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.
Although he was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks during the first round of the 2001 NHL entry draft and acquired by the New York Rangers in 2004, Umberger did not play for either team. After joining the Philadelphia Flyers, he played for their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms for the 2004-2005 season and was instrumental in the team's Calder Cup win.
Umberger joined the Flyers' roster near the beginning of the 2005-2006 season and has improved steadily each year to become a vital part of the team. Entering the 2008 Eastern Conference finals, Umberger was leading his team in playoff goals scored with nine.
