R.E.M. is a multiplatinum selling rock band from Athens, Georgia led by lead singer and political activist Michael Stipe. Over their 25+ year career, the band have released 14 studio albums and are generally considered to be one of the most successful indie rock bands in history. While the band achieved its greatest success during their heyday in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band have to continued to write and record new material. The band released their latest album, Accelerate, in 2008.
