Introduction
This is a detailed walkthrough for Activision's Xbox 360 and PC shooter, Quake 4. The walkthrough assumes a playthrough on the "Lieutenant" difficulty level. -
-
General Strategies
- Use all of your weapons! There is not enough ammo in the game to use any one weapon exclusively. For example, when you are fighting long distance enemies, use the rail gun or machinegun. In cramped quarters, use the shotgun, hyper blaster, or lightning gun. Feel free to mix and match as you see fit. Just remember that the nail gun, rocket launcher, grenade launcher, and the dark matter gun can inflict self-damage if you are too close to a wall.
- Make use of your squad mates. Medics and Techs will provide you with unlimited health and armor refills. Just walk up to them when there are no enemies on the screen and press B to request a refill.
- Rhino Squad is awesome. When you see that a squad mate is from Rhino Squad, you can rest assured that he can absorb a lot of damage. In fact, you can probably let him do most of the fighting for you.
- Save often. One advantage you have in this game is that you can save anywhere in a level. Use this feature to save your game after a particularly tough section in case you get ambushed by a Berserker and die. Checkpoints are not as plentiful as you might imagine, especially on the tougher difficulty settings.
- Always keep moving. A stationary target is a dead target. Often, you'll be shot at from multiple angles. By continually moving and dodging, you lessen the chances that you will actually get hit. Take cover whenever possible as well.
-
Weapons
- Blaster - You can hold down the Right Trigger to charge up a shot. Although the blaster has unlimited ammo, it doesn't do much damage. You won't be using it much.
- Machinegun - The workhorse of your arsenal. If you press the Left Trigger you'll enter a zoom mode. While this turns the machinegun into a single fire gun, bullets do a lot more damage in this mode. This will be your primary way of picking off lesser Strogg from medium to long range.
- Shotgun - A great close-quarters gun. Take it out in cramped quarters and you'll mow your way through the Strogg.
- Grenade Launcher - The Pineapple Express lobs explosive grenades that do heavy damage. Use it to take out enemies behind corners. Watch out for the blast radius, though.
- Hyper blaster - A very useful gun for taking down an enemy quickly. Its drawback is a short ammo clip and a high rate of fire. Be mindful of your ammo count for this one.
- Nail gun - It will take some time to spin this gun up, so take that into account in battle. Later on, when you receive the zoom and lock-on upgrades, this will become your best gun to fight large enemies. It does tremendous amounts of damage, but watch out in close quarters. The nails will bounce back and damage you.
- Rocket Launcher - Performs as advertised. Make sure there is a sizeable distance between you and your target or you will be involved in a murder-suicide.
- Rail gun - The defacto "sniper rifle." Zooming in will do more damage per shot. Remember that there are only 3 slugs per clip. Eventually it will be upgraded to allow you to shoot through multiple enemies if they are lined up behind each other.
- Lightning Gun - Similar to the Hyper blaster, except there are no ammo clips to worry about and it has a range limit. In close to mid-ranges, this gun will quickly deplete the health of any Strogg you encounter.
- Dark Matter Gun - The Big Daddy. Much like the BFG in Doom, this gun fires a large, slow moving orb that will do massive amounts of damage to anything in its path. Its rate of fire is slow, though, making it more of a crowd control device than a main weapon.
-
Enemies
- Strogg Marine - These are the most basic form of Strogg. Formerly humans, they carry either a blaster, machinegun, or shotgun. Use either the shotgun or machinegun on them.
- Berserker - This Strogg has a blade for one arm and a mace for another. Keep your distance from them as they can do lots of damage to your quickly. They also have a lightning based attack that will disorient you. The shotgun is the preferred weapon of choice. If you have enough time, you can try using your rocket or grenade launchers.
- Grunt - This very stout Strogg moves faster than you think. Like the Berserker, it will charge you and try to bludgeon you. Use your shotgun, hyper blaster, or lightning gun to take it down while backpedaling.
- Gunner - Gunners are equipped with a nail gun and grenade launcher. Both have the capability to hurt you very much. Watch for the glowing red grenades and run away quickly if you see it fire one. It will have to reload its nail gun at some point, so take this opportunity to fire at it with your zoomed-in machinegun or rail gun.
- Tactical Strogg - Like the Strogg Marines, these are the foot soldiers of the Strogg army you will encounter in later levels. They have slightly more health than Marines, but are not too tough. Watch out, as some of them will be carrying hyper blasters and rail guns in addition to the standard ordinance.
- Gladiator - The Gladiator is one of the most formidable Strogg you will see. It has a rail gun mounted on top and is equipped with an energy shield and nail gun as well. Your grenade launcher is the best weapon to use here as you can dump a grenade behind its shield. Take cover and lob grenades at it until it dies.
- Light Tank - Looking like an oversized Gunner, these heavy Strogg will charge at you and try to melee attack you. They also have rockets and a flamethrower at their disposal. Keep your distance while backpedaling to defeat them. They are very well armored.
- Heavy Hover Tank - You'll first fight these while piloting a Hover Tank. It gets harder on foot. These Strogg will shoot damaging large plasma bolts at you. Occasionally you will see a large blue homing missile. Obviously, you don't want to get hit by it. If you feel lucky, you can shoot the missile out of the sky with your hyper blaster. Otherwise, dodge and use your nail gun to take these guys out. It will take almost a full clip to drop one.
- Iron Maiden - These banshee-esque creatures will float around and fire rockets at you. If you get too close to one, its scream will cause your display to disorient, making it very hard to see. They also have a powerful melee attack. The hyper blaster is your weapon of choice against them. Don't let down your guard until you see their bodies disappear in a green cloud. Iron Maidens will annoyingly teleport around.
- Hound - These dog-like Strogg will launch grenades that spawn more Strogg enemies to help out. While they rarely attack, you don't want to stick around to find out. Make them their your first target whenever you see one. Use your hyper blaster or lightning gun.
- Sentry - Sentries are hover Strogg with a green bowl underneath them. They fire blaster shots that do a surprising amount of damage. Use your zoomed-in machinegun or rail gun to do them in. Aiming for the green bowl will do double damage to them.
- Scientist - You'll encounter the Scientist only in a couple of levels. It looks like it is holding many needles and hovers about. Watch out for its poison grenades.
- Zombie - Zombies are found in only one level. They act like zombies for the most part, as they are slow moving. Be careful to not get hit by their poison belch attacks. Use your shotgun to destroy them.
- Stream Protector - Stream Protectors are spider-like heavy Strogg. You will only encounter them in select areas. They will fire heavy rockets and plasma bolts at you. Keep your distance and fire rockets at it.
-
Air Defense Bunker
- Walk straight ahead and talk to Sgt. Morris.
- Continue forward and talk to Medic Anderson. He will fill your health meter up to capacity.
- Turn right onto the bridge and make a left. Walk inside the door and follow the private.
- A couple of Strogg will attack the both of you. Fire away while strafing from side to side to avoid their shots.
- TIP: Press Y to turn on the flashlight on your blaster. It might help you see things better.
- Make a right up the short staircase and work your way backwards. Turn left and continue down the hallway. There will be a small health pack near the blue flare if you need it.
- Go through the doorway where you will see a marine meet an untimely end. Continue forward past some stairs and a red flare to the doorway you saw the marine be dragged into.
- Pick up the machinegun on the floor and get ready to fend off a Strogg Marine that will run in directly in front of you. Two more Strogg will come at you as you work your way down the hallway.
- Shortly after you see a fellow marine survive a Strogg attack, there will be a health pack and some machine gun clips in crates along the floor. Pick them up if you need them.
- Follow the marine down the hallway. Watch out for a Strogg that will attack you through the pipes on your left. Curve around the pipes and go through the next door.
- Walk through the door and meet up with Badger Squad. The leader will tell you to backtrack and bring the medic you saw out front.
- Be prepared to fight some Strogg on the way back. The medic will be in the room where the first Strogg attacked you. You'll hear him speak to you.
- TIP: Medics will heal you if you stand next to them and press B. You'll probably need some TLC after your battle here, so get healed up first before heading back to Badger Squad.
- Make your way back to Badger Squad. Watch out for Strogg ambushes.
- Go through the door and be reunited with Corporal Cortez from Rhino Squad. There are some ammo clips and health packs in the crates next to the blue flare if you need them. After listening to him talk, walk left and through the double doors. Press the console using the B button on your controller to end the level.
-
Air Defense Trenches
- Walk forward and use the elevator.
- On the next level continue straight ahead. Pick up the armor next to the blue flare. Watch out for the Strogg that will attack you shortly thereafter.
- Keep walking through the door and across the bridge. When you reach a blue flare, you can take a short detour to your right through the broken railing to pick up some armor shards. When you are done, climb back up and continue down the hallways to reach the trenches.
- Continue through the trenches until you reach a squad mate under fire. Take cover here and help him defeat the attacking Strogg. There's a box of clips on the right side of the large trench if you need it.
- Walk forward past a red flare and reach Corporal Rhodes and regroup with Rhino Squad.
- You are now tasked with taking out the Strogg hangars. Turn left at the fork and continue following the trenches. Many Strogg will attack you here. Dispatch them and then take the first left you see in front of the giant AA cannon. Walk forward through the double doors and push the button to end the level.
- Achievement: You should get the achievement "The Machine" for using only the machine gun for an entire level.
-
Hangar Perimeter
- Walk forward and kill the Strogg Berserker that will lunge after you. There will be another pack of Strogg a little further down the hallway. Use your zoomed in machinegun to pick them all off. Hang a left at the end and go through the door.
- You will find Viper Squad here. Corporal Mahler hands you a shotgun.
- Once you go through the door into the open area, many Strogg will attack. Defeat them and follow the squad through the doorway on the other side.
- Note: In addition to a medic, there is also a Tech in the squad. Techs will refill your armor, much like a medic refills your health. Be sure to make use of both resources liberally.
- Once through the door, Strogg will stream in on the opposite end. Zoom in with your machinegun and take them out before they can even walk in.
- Two Strogg will charge you here. Shotgun them and move down the staircase.
- If you walk to the end of the room and turn right, you'll find some armor shards right before a locked door. Pick these up and then backtrack to the previous path on the left. A Strogg Grunt will ambush you from the left, so be wary. Two more Strogg await you on the elevator at the end of the corridor. Kill them and get on.
- Once through, you will reach a large room with missiles in the center. Strogg will jump down at you on all sides, so get your shotgun ready. Take cover around the missile if you need to. Once the onslaught is finished, you will be tasked to find a way around the glass.
- Go through the open door after killing the Strogg that bursts in. Continue through, killing Strogg until you reach a room with a ladder. Climb the ladder and press the button right after opening the door. This will lower a bridge to let you continue onward.
- Several Strogg will burst through the door. Kill them and press the button you see. This will lower the engines in the main room to the floor. Continue walking along the top path to reach an elevator that will take you down. Go to the engine closest to the blocked glass and use the button on the backside of it. Flames will melt the glass, granting you passage.
- Continue onward into a room with more Strogg. Once they are clear, go to the center of the room and push the green button. This will start the process of lowering some bridges. A mass of Strogg will start streaming out across the far bridge. Snipe at them with your zoomed in machinegun. It's just like a shooting range!
- Once the way is clear, walk through where the Strogg came from. You will be attacked from the Strogg downstairs and also from the initially locked door straight ahead. Make short work of all them and continue forward to end the level. If you need a health pack, walk down the stairs and check the nook on the right.
-
Interior Hangar
- After the elevator stops, continue forward until you reach a door that won't open. Corporal Mahler will tell you to hold up and open it for you.
- Note: Make sure your flashlight is on. Hit Y to toggle it on.
- Your squad mate will tell you the area is clear, but it isn't. Strogg will attack you from your right. Watch out for the automated turret on the ceiling too. When the enemies are clear, seek out your medic and tech to get patched up. If you want an achievement, you'll have to make sure no one in Viper squad dies during this battle.
- Your next objective is to meet up Rhodes back at the elevator you came up at the start of the level.
- Achievement: As you make your way back, the achievement "Solar Star of Courage" should unlock for you if none of Viper Squad died.
- After meeting up with Rhodes, check the ground next to him for some ammo, armor, and health packs.
- You are tasked with protecting Rhodes while he sets the charges to blow up the hangars. Walk to the area where you were ambushed by the turrets and turn left through the door there.
- Take the first door on the right. (Don't go up the stairs just yet.) There will be some Strogg to kill here. When the room is clear, Rhodes will set the first charges.
- Back track to the previous room and head up the stairs. Watch out for a Strogg squad that will attack you at the top of the staircase. Hang back at the bottom of the stairs and use your zoomed-in machine gun to shoot at them while taking cover. Blow up the fuel barrel on the left staircase to easily take out a couple of Strogg quickly. There will be Gunners here so be wary of the explosives - they will do a TON of damage to you.
- When you are done, go up the stairs and around to the two doors on the second floor. Ignore these doors and walk down the staircase next to the locked door. There will be an open door here for you to walk through. Clear the area of Strogg here - watch for the Gunner on the platform above. Rhodes will then plant the second set of charges.
- Follow Rhodes up the stairs and through the two doors and get ready to watch some fireworks.
- Your next objective is to meet up with Voss. Head to the right side of the room and press the button to end the level.
-
MCC Landing Site
- Once the elevator lands walk forward to meet Private Strauss and to pick up some ammo to the left of him.
- Walk outside and down the stairs through the courtyard. Continue on until you see Sgt. Morris. Follow him back to the trenches and Lt. Voss. He'll give you a nice new present, the grenade launcher.
- Follow the squad through the trenches to reach the air defense cannon. Strogg will attack you, but you can let your squad mates take care of them for you if you want.
- Note: Rhino squad is virtually invincible so you can let your teammates take the brunt the brunt of the damage and you'll be none worse for the wear.
- Once you reach the locked door, Voss will tell you to find a way in. Jump up the crates to the right of the door to reach the roof of the building. Watch out for the Grunt that will jump out of the hole. Shotgun him, and then jump in to open the door and let your squad mates in.
- Walk through the door and be prepared for an epic battle in this long hallway. Strogg will stream in from all sides, but if you take cover and snipe at them, you and Rhino squad will eventually clear them out.
- Continue forward and take out the Strogg on the far side of the next room. Jump over the railing to pick off any stragglers.
- After you clear the next hallway of Strogg, you'll take control of the cannon. After the conversation, Voss will tell you to get in the cannon and create an entrance. Get in and fire straight ahead, you'll open the door and kill a few Strogg with just one pull of the trigger.
- Your next task will be to clear the landing zone. Make your way to where you entered the cannon room. There will be a Strogg ambushing you around the corner so be prepared.
- Take the elevator up and enter the room on the left. This time, several tough Strogg will rush at you. Switch between your shotgun and your machine gun to take them all out.
- Use the buttons next to the doors to make your way outside. Don't forget to pick up the health packs on the ground if you need them.
- Walk up to the door you blew up with the cannon earlier. You'll witness the destruction of said cannon. Continue through and turn right at the end of the flame-filled hallway.
- Go through the door and prepare yourself for a Strogg attack. You'll have one member of Raven Squad backing you up, but he can die, so be sure to protect him if you can.
- Continue through the wreckage and you'll encounter more Strogg, including a Berserker Strogg. Use your shotgun to do optimal damage to him.
- Once outside, try to make your way forward past the turret fire into cover. As soon as you trigger the "Objective Complete," the Hannibal will come and destroy the turrets from above.
- Walk to the rear of the ship and a platform will lower, allowing you to board the ship and end the level.
-
Operation: Advantage
- Note: There is no combat in this "mission."
- Once on the ship, turn around and head up the small flight of stairs to reach the decontamination chamber.
- Your destination is the briefing room to meet up with Rhino Squad. The ship may seem like a maze, but there is a fairly linear path to the briefing room. Follow the signs and you'll eventually reach your destination. You'll have to pass through the Drop Pod Command and the Mess Hall to reach the briefing room.
- After the cutscene, head to the armory. It's to the left of the entrance to the briefing room. Make your way to the back and Sgt. Swekel from Raven Squad will give you an extended clip mod for your machine gun.
- Continue through the doors on your way to the Walker Hangar. Step on the platform to end the level.
-
Canyon
- Walk past Pitman and to the left to reach the convoy. Get on the vehicle on the front to start the ride.
- After some movement, the train will stop so you can shoot at attacking Strogg. Pull out your machinegun, zoom in, and have a blast. The train will start moving again when you kill all the Strogg.
- The train will drop you off in the next building. Get off and head through the doorway on the left side. Continue forward until you meet with Sgt. Bidwell. He'll tell you to hop on the truck, so do so.
- You'll be manning a turret with unlimited ammo as the truck drives along. There's not much to say here, other than "aim and fire at the Strogg."
- Watch for the drop turrets - dispatch them as soon as they land.
- The convoy will stop at one point so a marine can disarm land mines. Your job will be to defend him while he does his job. Strogg will continually stream in from the right. Try to kill the ones closest to the marine first. This shouldn't be very difficult. Once all the mines are disarmed, the convoy will continue forward.
- Your next objective will be to take out all of the turrets in the area. They may be hard to spot initially, but you'll know where they are located once you see them firing at you. There will be several missile turrets on the large building in the center. Shoot down the missiles first and then the turrets themselves. Gun turrets will be on small structures around the perimeter, as well as drop turrets from the sky. Again, this section should not be too difficult as your truck's shields can take a pounding.
- After the truck drops you off in front of the facility, walk inside to end the mission.
- Achievement: The "Untouchable" achievement should be unlocked after this level if you didn't take any damage.
-
Perimeter Defense Station
- Walk forward, and you will receive a Strogg nail gun from a marine. After he moves out of the way, press the button behind him to lower the elevator.
- Make your way to Lt. Voss for new orders to retrieve an engineer.
- Walk back out and to the left to meet up with your new Raven Squad friends. As soon as you walk through the door, Strogg will ambush you straight ahead. Deal with them and press the button to call up the elevator. Press it again to descend.
- Go through the open door and around the back to activate the console. This opens the large door in front of where your squad mates are camped. Berserker and Grunt Strogg will attack you. Once they are dispatched, continue onwards. There are some health packs and ammo to the right if you need them. Use the console next to them to open the next door.
- More Strogg will attack here as a truck comes barreling towards you. The engineer you are after will join you at this point. Kill all of the Strogg and then take him back to the marines. There will be a new door open now, so continue forward until you reach the door that the engineer will unlock for you.
- A Berserker Strogg will rush at your friends once you are through the door. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do for them, but you can save yourself. Press the button to call the elevator and ascend up.
- Continue forward and jump down when you can no longer go forward. Press the button to call up the defense grid. Use the defense grid to shut it down. A berserker will greet your marine buddy and then come after you. Put it down and go through the door.
- Move through the room with the pistons. Some Strogg will come out a door and attack you, but you know what to do here. When they are killed, ride the elevator up. Bidwell will tell you that they left a hover tank for you to rendezvous with the team.
- More Strogg attack you here, including a gunner in the back. Kill them quickly and then continue onwards. Don't forget to pick up the boxes of nails and the large health pack as you walk through the corridors.
- After descending the elevator, some Strogg Marines will attack you. Near the door on the other end are a bunch of goodies, including large health packs and some armor.
- A Berserker will greet you as you open the door. Shotgun him and press on.
- You'll encounter your first commander Strogg around the corner. He is very tough and carries a shield. Use your grenade launcher to lob some grenades behind his shield while taking cover behind the corner. Eventually he'll go down and you can continue forward behind him. Alternatively, you could lure him out and run through the door behind him.
- One last berserker Strogg stands between you and the end of the mission, so kill him and follow the path until the end of the mission.
-
Aqueducts
- The tech at the start of the mission will upgrade your nail gun and refill your armor as well. Make use of the medic too, if you need the health.
- Continue onwards and get in the tank.
- Note: You are now piloting a very fast hover tank. There are two modes of fire for the tank: cannon and machine gun. Press RB to toggle between the two. Left trigger will zoom in, if you need it. The armor and shields of the tank will regenerate if you are no longer attacked.
- Dispatch the flying sentinels with your tank cannon. Once you take out around 3-4 of them, continue past the hangar doors and into the next area.
- Here, drop turrets will appear very rapidly. Blow them up with your cannon and continue driving forward. Some Strogg will take potshots at you, but you can just run them over on your way through.
- Several sentinels will attack you in the air along with a Strogg tank. You may get an "incoming missile alert," but keep doing your best to take down the enemies with your cannon.
- The next open area will be almost arena-like. A couple of sentinels will attack you along with some rolling ball-like turrets. The turrets are very annoying as they move quickly. Try to dispatch the sentinels first, so all you have to worry about are the turrets. Strafe around the arena while avoiding fire and firing your cannon back at the arena. After some time, two tanks will join the fray. The missiles are fairly easy to shoot down with the cannon. Eliminating all the ball turrets will make it easier to aim at the tanks.
- The next section will have ball turrets dropping at you from both sides. Ignore them and floor it straight ahead. A drop ship will drop off a bunch of Strogg soldiers. Feel free to run them over or shoot them if you wish. When you are done having fun, turn to the tunnel on the right and drive forward to end the level.
-
Aqueducts Annex
- After the cutscene you will be facing the large spider-like Harvester. When it launches its missiles, switch to the machine gun to quickly shoot them out of the sky. Keep strafing and firing your cannon at the spider and eventually it will go down.
- Note: Watch out for the hole that the spider came out of. If you fall in here you will die instantly.
- When the spider is down, drive through the doorway beyond the hole into the tunnels. Drop turrets will rain down from above. Feel free to shoot them or ignore them.
- You'll reach an outdoor section with sentinels and more turrets. Again, you can just drive straight through.
- Eventually you'll reach a canyon with two Harvesters. The strategy isn't too different from how it was at the beginning of the level. You'll just have to worry about twice as many missile launches.
- With the Harvesters down, you can drive into the building and regroup with Rhino Squad. Get out of the tank and walk forward to end the mission.
-
Nexus Hub Tunnels
- Once the elevator reaches the bottom, walk forward to meet up with Voss and get your assignment.
- Go through the door with your squad mates. As you turn left, Strogg will attack you. Stay back and pick them off from down the hallway. Your squad mates will help you.
- You will come to a control panel where a short cutscene will unfold between your squad.
- Follow Strauss through the door and into the next room beyond the creepy science tanks.
- A Strogg Gladiator will descend in the middle of the room. Get behind cover and lob a few grenades at him until he succumbs. Then, mop up the additional Strogg grunts that will attack from the far end of the room.
- Go through the door where the grunts were located at. As you reach the intersection, a berserker will charge at you from the left side. Kill him and continue down the hallway and through the door.
- Tip: Keep in mind that Strauss is a Tech. You can get free armor refills by pressing B next to him. He is also impervious to damage, so you can let him do a lot of the dirty work in killing Strogg if you wish.
- You'll get a nice view of a Harvester on your left. Follow the pathway around the left to a control console that Strauss with fiddle with.
- Sentries will ambush you from behind. Take cover behind the crates next to the console and methodically dispatch them. If you need health, there are health packs behind the console. Another set of two Sentries will attack from above Strauss once you kill the first wave.
- Backtrack to the control room where Voss was. There will be Strogg swarming all over the areas you've just cleared, so be prepared.
- Your teammates will be besieged by Strogg. Help them out, and then follow them through the door at the far end of the room.
- Continue through the hallways, killing Strogg along the way.
- In the large hangar-like room, watch out for Strogg attacking you from the catwalk above and also the Gladiator that walks in. Again, use your zoomed-in machine gun and grenade launcher to bypass the enemies.
- You'll come up to a large red force field. Voss will tell you to find a way to deactivate it.
- Go through the doorways. Hover Strogg will appear in front of you in this room and the next. The console to deactivate the force field is in the room with the blue mist. Once you have done that, 2 Grunts will burst in from the doorway above. Kill them and press on. There is a small closet full of goodies down the upstairs hallway. Jump back down after you have looted the room.
- Meet up with your squad at the convoy. The Harvester will attack you all, but you can just ignore it for now. Don't bother wasting ammunition on it.
- After the scene, jump down the newly kicked in hole. Remember to click the Right Stick to crouch in these vents.
- Take the ladder up at the end of the hallway, then crouch as you make your way down the other end. You'll pick up a shiny new hyper blaster on the ground.
- Fall down and continue forward. A Sentry will attack you in here. Kill it and jump up to the open path. Take the ladder at the end of the path and be prepared to face two more Sentries.
- Follow the pipes up and pick up the batteries and health pack on the floor.
- As you enter the door, three Sentries will attack you from both ends. Ignore them and continue down the catwalk. More Sentries attack here - use your hyper blaster to melt them.
- The next room will be the site of a tricky battle. Dispatch of the marines and watch out for the Gunner Strogg on the second floor. Once he is dead, a Sentry will descend from the sky, so be prepared to shoot him.
- When the coast is clear, make your way to the second floor. Walk forward and use the elevator to end the level.
-
Nexus Hub
- Once the elevator stops, Strauss will ask you to rendezvous immediately with him.
- Walk to the right and use the elevator at the end of the room.
- You'll find your old friend here. Let him fill up your armor and walk through the door next to him.
- The linear pathway to the Power Plant controls is fraught with a smorgasbord of Strogg. You should know how to deal with them by now. Don't forget to check the crates along the way for ammo and armor.
- Once Strauss activates the controls, you will have to backtrack to the Tetranode.
- A Gladiator will walk in. Take cover behind the controls and lob grenades at him until he is dead.
- Make your way back to the area where you first met up with Strauss. Naturally, Strogg will try to impede your progress.
- Go through the doors at the other side of the Tetra Node to reach the emergency shutoff controls.
- You'll find a Berserker and a Gladiator, among other types of Strogg here.
- Continue up the stairs on the left and turn right at the intersection to find a Berserker Strogg. (Don't go through the door here, it leads back to the previous room.) Another Berserker accompanied by a couple Marines will attack you.
- Hang left at the first opening to find some ammo on the ground. Continue left until you reach an elevator. Use it to ascend to the emergency shutoff controls. Strauss will then tell you to shut down the coolant pumps.
- Go through the door in this room and follow the hallway down. If you curve around the left, you'll find a cache of armor, ammo, and health.
- Backtrack and make your way to the coolant room. Hit the switch in the middle of the room and get ready to fight some new enemies, Stream Protectors.
- Take cover behind the pipes and lob grenades at them while dodging. You will have to avoid cannon fire and missiles from them. As long as you keep your distance, you won't have to worry about the spiders' flamethrower attacks.
- Once they are dead, the Makron will enter. You can't kill it permanently yet, but you will have to damage it while avoiding its cannon fire for a little bit.
- When it fires its tractor beam at you, the level will end.
- Achievement: Act I is now complete.
-
Strogg Medical Facilities
- Welcome to your new life as a half-Strogg badass! Your maximum health and armor level is bumped up to 125, and you can make use of the Strogg health stations located on the walls.
- Walk forward and pickup the blaster and shotgun from the floor. Continue following Rhino squad until you are forced to split up with Medic Anderson.
- Follow him through the newly opened door and watch the little scene. Pick up the shells on the ground and go through the doorway on the left when it is finished.
- Going right at the fork here will let you a couple of clips. Walk back and follow Anderson through the door. There will be another cutscene.
- Three Strogg Scientists will attack in succession. They will use a chemical grenade that will disorient you momentarily. Strafe around the gas grenades and use your shotgun to dispatch the Strogg.
- Once they are dead, pick up the machinegun off the ground and push the button next to the body to open the doors. Use the health station on the left side if you need it.
- Continue on through the set of doors and down the halls.
- Grab the nail gun on the left and get ready to fight some Strogg. When they are dead, walk forward through the door to get on a conveyor belt.
- Once past the door, get off and take care of the Marines. Grab the health pack in the pack and then call the lift. Get on and take it to the top level.
- Walk out to find a couple of more Marines. Another Strogg will burst through the door as you try to open it. Take out your shotgun on him. Remember to grab the rocket launcher located in this room as well.
- As you walk out, a Gladiator and 2 Marines will greet you. Lob a few grenades to quickly dispatch of the group and continue forward.
- Have your shotgun ready, as a Berserker will charge you walking up the stairs. Pick off the gunner at the top of the stairs and continue through the right as two Strogg charge you.
- If you walk up to the walkway where you killed the Gunner, you'll find some armor and ammo in the back. Unfortunately, a Gladiator will attack you from behind at this point. After he is dead, go through the door he appeared from.
- Once you take care of the two Marines and the Gunner on top of the stairs, you'll find Lt. Voss beyond a broken door. He'll tell you to find another way out.
- Backtrack to the hallway with the septic tanks. A Strogg will charge through the previously locked door here. Shotgun him and take the elevator down.
- Walk through the door and kill the grunts on the stairs.
- Continue up and get on the conveyor belt. Time it so you get on the moving platform as it takes you to the next area.
- You'll meet up with Voss here. Watch the cutscene and be prepared for a Berserker Strogg attack.
- Walk down the stairs and straight through the doors to pick up some armor and health. Turn around and head towards the doorway in the back to reach an elevator going up.
- Be prepared to find some Grunts and Gunners in the next room. When they are all dead, turn right and go through the door next to the elevator. You'll find a gunner at the bottom of the stairs, but also some armor, health, and a rocket launcher. When you have taken all the goodies, walk back up and take the door at the far end of the room.
- You'll find some Scientists here. Shoot them and use the health station if you need it. Continue further back and go through the door into a circular hallway.
- The door on the left will contain an armor vest. Once you get it, walk around to the door at the other end. Watch out for the Berserker that will come up behind you here.
- Pick up the rockets through the door and take the lift down. You will have to deal with Marines and another Berserker.
- When they are dead, crouch down through the opening in front of the conveyor belt to retrieve a hyper blaster. Crawl forward to catch a glimpse of the Strogg Hound. Gather the ammo and armor pieces and then follow the Hound out to the large room.
- Have your nail gun or hyper blaster equipped and start unloading onto the Hound as soon as it ascends from the floor. With luck, you'll kill it before it even has a chance to attack or summon help.
- Head to the elevator on the left to end the level.
-
Construction Zone
- There's some ammo, armor, and health to your immediate left on the catwalk as the level begins.
- Go down the ramp and get inside the Walker.
- Note: Like the Hover tank, the Walker's shields and armor will regenerate over time as long as you are not under fire. The controls are the exact same as the tank as well, except that you have a six missile clip. You have unlimited ammo still, but will have to wait for a reload after every six missile fires.
- Sentinels and drop turrets will attack you as you walk forward. Blow them out of the sky and head left down into the tunnel.
- Shoot or crush the Strogg here - your choice.
- Make a right and watch out for the two Gladiators and their rail guns. They shouldn't be much trouble for your walker's machineguns.
- Keep following the path here. Watch for sentinels, drop turrets, and Heavy Hover Tanks with missiles.
- Once through the next tunnel, you'll see bombers making a run. Shoot them down and continue forward.
- You will find yourself in very cramped quarters in the next building. Drop turrets will fall in front of you with a very thick smoke screen. Just keep your machine guns firing and forage ahead.
- Follow the canyon until the end, then turn left into the door.
- Eventually you'll come out a canyon and will have to face a Harvester. Unload all the missiles you can on it, then switch to your machine gun while you reload. Repeat until it goes down. Be sure to shoot down the Harvester's missiles with your machinegun if it launches.
- Continue forward until you reach an overhang that your Walker cannot pass. Press the B button to get out of the Walker. Walk towards the door on foot to end the level.
-
Dispersal Facility
- After the short cutscene, equip your shotgun and rush the Strogg closest to you. After killing him, pick up his rail gun and quickly take cover. Use your new rail gun to pick off the Gladiator in the back. Once he is down, mop up the remaining Strogg soldiers.
- There will be a door at the right side of the area. To open it, use the switch in front of it.
- Make your way to the back of the room, being mindful of the three Strogg hiding back there. Take the elevator up.
- A Harvester will shoot at you from out here. You can't hurt it, so run forward quickly, avoiding its fire. Crouch to reach the doorway at the end of the path.
- Three Strogg will attack you at the end of the hallway. Kill them, use the health station, and grab the ammo on the ground.
- Follow the hallway until you reach a room with three elevator shafts. Get your shotgun equipped. A Berserker Strogg will rush you from the leftmost opening. Kill him, and then press the button near the center elevator to call it up. A gunner will be inside it, so be prepared.
- Walk forward once the elevator stops moving. Get your machinegun out and pick off the gunner on the catwalk above. Two Strogg attack you from the bottom right as you walk forward. A Grunt and another Marine will follow once you go inside the next room.
- Make your way to the only green-lit door. Two Strogg and a Gladiator will assault you here. Bounced grenades will do the Gladiator in.
- Continue up the stairs and through the door. You'll see a Grunt rush you as it drops down from the ceiling.
- Follow the path until you reach a room with a couple of staircases leading down.
- Tip: Push the explosive barrels down and shoot them when you see Strogg walk near them. You can pick off the Strogg on the lower levels from above with your zoomed in machinegun.
- Slowly make your way to the bottom, where a Gladiator will walk in. You know what to do here.
- Armor shards will be in a box to the right of the door at the bottom.
- Walk through to find a rail gun and a health station along with some rail slugs next to the locked door.
- Drop down to find a doorway with a Gunner Strogg. Kill him and continue forward. Turn left to find a narrow hallway and an open door.
- You will see a giant, pulsating organ. Gross, huh? Walk forward past it to the right and you'll find armor under a staircase. Go up the stairs to reach a switch and use it. Drop down and head up the stairs to the left end of the room where there will be another switch. Once both switches are hit, the organ will malfunction and the floor will open beneath it.
- Drop down and crouch into the pipe to end the level.
-
Recomposition Center
- Pull out a flashlight and make your way to the door on the left.
- You'll see a Strogg gunner toss a marine aside. Shoot him while he is occupied.
- Head to the back of the room where you'll see an interactive switch. You can now open the force fields in the room.
- Cell #2 contains Tech Sasaki, who will upgrade your nail gun for you. Now you can zoom in and lock on to targets for more damage with your nail gun. There's also a health station here, should you need it.
- Head up the stairs and down the hallway. Eventually you'll reach a console where Sasaki will tell you to activate the barrel process.
- Continue through the open door straight ahead. Several Strogg will attack you here. Mow them down with your hyper blaster and continue forward. Pull out your shotgun as a Grunt will drop from the ceiling here. Now would be a good time to use your newly upgraded nail gun to take out the gunners in the back.
- Walk up the stairs and head right on the catwalk. Watch out for a Berserker who will rush at you from the left as you reach the intersection. There's a Strogg behind him as well.
- You'll see a marine being electrocuted in the next room. Walk up to the console to deactivate the device and take the lightning gun. It's too late to save him, but at least you have a new toy to play with. Don't forget to pick up the grenades on the floor as well.
- Head around the back of the room to find another doorway. Several Strogg will attack you, including a Grunt, as you round the corners. Utilize your full array of weaponry to dispatch them.
- Note: Don't miss the health station and ammo pack on the ground in the middle of the hallway.
- Once through the open door, you'll see the console to activate the barrel process. Press it and Sasaki will tell you that you'll also need to activate the sterilization procedure as well.
- Walk out the door conveniently marked "Sterilization." As you make your way around the catwalk, you'll see Strogg rushing you. Take them out, being mindful of the Strogg taking potshots at you from above as well.
- More Strogg will pop out of the woodwork and doors as you proceed towards the open door.
- You'll come out into a large outdoor area with staircases leading up. A Gladiator will be here along with a band of Strogg. Take cover and peek out with your rail gun several times to down the Gladiator. This will allow you to mop up the rest of the Strogg with a zoomed in machinegun or nail gun.
- Go inside the open doors until you reach the sterilization controls. Press the button to activate it and pick up the goodies on the ground next to it.
- You're going to have to backtrack to where you left Sasaki now.
- As you walk back out to the open area, a new enemy is introduced, the Strogg Light Tank. These suckers are very powerful and can absorb a lot of damage. Whip out your nail gun and unload a bunch of locked on nails on it while avoiding its flamethrower and its charge attacks.
- A couple of Strogg attack you when you go back to the previous area. They should pose no problem for you.
- When you are about to reach Sasaki, a large contingent of Strogg will attack you, including a Berserker. Pull out your rocket launcher and as soon as you round the corner, fire a bunch of rockets down the hall. Retreat back and switch to another weapon to finish off the Berserker if it didn't die. Once you clear the area, go through the newly opened door to grab an armor vest before you head back to Sasaki.
- Oops, looks like you didn't make it back in time. Oh well, you can use the console yourself. Press the button to send the moving platform down and again to place some barrels on it. When the platform returns, jump on top of the console and then barrels to reach the second floor catwalk.
- Get your shotgun ready, as a Grunt is about to crawl up the exit and attack you. Once he is out of the way, drop down to end the level.
-
Putrification Center
- You start the level on a conveyor belt. The first room of note will have you navigating past rows of tanks. Time your movements so you don't get knocked off. If you drop down to the left side before the door, you will be able to pick up a pack of slugs and a health in the next area. Drop down to the conveyor belt afterwards to continue your journey.
- The next room will have very fast moving tanks. Be careful here, as the barrels will knock you off if you are not paying attention.
- Keep going on the conveyor belt, avoiding tanks and robotic arms.
- You will have to drop down a level to another conveyor belt in the next area. Avoid the pincers and continue onward.
- If you take a detour to the left after the first buzz saw, you can pick up a bunch of ammo, including slugs and shotgun shells. Watch for the blue flare.
- Drop down two belts to get to the next open door.
- If you head towards the left and drop down, you'll see another blue flare with more ammo. Walk all the way around the walkway to find an armor vest and a health pack as well. When you are done, climb back up to the conveyor belt and continue the ride. Watch out for the 2 sets of flamethrowers here.
- Avoid the two pincer arms and go to the next area.
- Jump up onto the platform on the right to avoid falling off. Turn around and jump up again to a conveyor belt leading to an open door. Ride it to the end.
- Quickly get onto solid ground, as two Strogg will attack you on both sides. Kill them both and go through the open door.
- There will be several Strogg here and a health station. Clear the room and heal up. Then proceed to the open door. You'll have to mow down several more Strogg to do so.
- A Grunt will rush you in the next area. Kill it and be prepared to snipe the Gunner behind him.
- You will eventually reach a room with a giant grotesque blob creature through a window. This is the Stroylent Processing Creature.
- Walk around the right side through the open doors. Watch out as you enter the room again, as the creature will attack you with its arms. The goal is to time your movements so that you are behind a pillar when he strikes. Listen to the *clink* noise to help you figure out when to move.
- When you reach the other side of the room, you'll find a switch next to the creature. Quickly hit it to make the creature scream in pain and open up a new path for you.
- Continue along the path of open doors until you reach a lift. Take the lift up and move along until you're back in the room with the Stroylend Processing Creature.
- Again you'll have to use the pillars for cover as you make your way to the back controls. Hit the button to feed the monster poison, killing it.
- Drop down to the newly opened area underneath. (Take the lift back down if you are low on health.) Some Strogg will attack you here. Take them out and make your way to the open door on the bottom floor. More Strogg will greet you here, including a Gunner, so get your nail gun ready.
- Once the area is clear, head around the left side of the room to grab an armor vest hidden in the darkness. Then make your way to the open door. Grab the ammo and health in the crate to the right of the opening before jumping in. This will end the level.
-
Waste Processing Facility
- You'll meet up with a marine from Eagle Squad at the start of the level. He'll warn you about the acid sprays in the area.
- Take the tunnel to the right of where you talked to the marine. You'll be fighting a horde of not-fully Stroggified humans in this area. They're essentially zombies with acid breath.
- Tip: Move quickly through the tunnels with your shotgun equipped. You don't necessarily have to kill every enemy, just enough to clear your path forward.
- Eventually you'll reach a room with moving plows on the ground. Avoid them as you make your way to the end of the room. On the left side of the room is a ladder. Climb it.
- Take out your machinegun. There's a large health pack on your immediate right as you get off the ladder. Normal Strogg soldiers will attack you further down the hall. Pick them off with your zoomed in machinegun.
- When you reach the first open door, go inside to get some ammo and health. As you walk back out, you'll see a switch. Press it to extend a bridge to the other end. More Strogg will attack, take them with long ranged weapons.
- Note: You can check all of the open doors here for ammo and health if you need more. The door on the left side across the room will contain 2 more Strogg.
- Continue forward through the one open door that leads further into the facility. Switch to your hyper blaster.
- The floor will break in front of you, dropping you into a sea of zombies.
- Use your hyper blaster to clear out a path ahead of you. Turn left further down the room and you'll come to a room where there is an acid flow. Before you enter the room, shoot the explosive barrel to take out the zombie.
- After you enter, turn right and make your way to the end. If the acid flow is close to you, take cover in one of the nooks until it passes you by. Eventually you'll be able to turn left and proceed until you meet up with the marine from earlier.
- Achievement: If you want the "Sky Marshall's Medal of Valor" achievement, you'll have to keep this marine alive for the next segment. He can take some damage, but he's not invincible.
- Climb the stairs and be prepared for combat. Tactical Strogg will shoot you from across the way, while zombies ambush you from behind. It's going to be difficult to come out of this unscathed, so do your best to forge forward while taking out the soldiers with long distance weaponry. The nail gun lock on will help here.
- Make your way through the open doorway. There will be a short respite here, as you will find some ammo and a health station. Unfortunately, more often than not, your Eagle Squad buddy will charge into the next room, triggering the next battle. Take out your rail gun and be prepared to do a lot of sniping. Use your cover and methodically shoot all of the Strogg on the other end. There is one Gunner there, so make him a priority. Several more Strogg will enter from the door on the other side. Maintain your calm and continue sniping until they are all gone.
- Keep walking forward until you reach the next room. Two Strogg will greet you. Continue navigating forward past the debris until you reach Cobra squad and a laser grid.
- Note: The achievement for escorting the Eagle Squad soldier will unlock here.
- The tech will upgrade your rocket launcher to shoot homing missiles. This will come in handy very soon.
- Tip: Be sure to fill up on health and armor from the tech and medic before you proceed.
- Don't be afraid of the laser grid, you can pass by it unharmed since you are half Strogg now.
- A cutscene will trigger as you walk through the door up ahead.
-
Boss Fight: Voss
- Your old friend, Lieutenant Voss, has become Stroggified and it's up to you to put him down.
- He has three attacks: homing rockets, the dark matter gun, and he will spawn Strogg soldiers as well. Voss's life meter has two levels: his health and his shields. Your goal for the first half of the fight is to deplete his shields. Once you do this, he will head towards a power conduit and recharge his shields. Don't worry; he can only do this three times. You want to try and keep your distance while bombarding him with your homing rockets and/or locked on nails. Keeping your distance will allow you to more easily evade his rockets and his dark matter blasts. The dark matter shot will pull you in if you are too close to it, causing massive amounts of damage to your health. If Voss drops Strogg soldiers, kill them if it is convenient for you, otherwise concentrate on depleting Voss's shields. When he can no longer recharge his shields, play a cat and mouse game with him. Empty all of your rockets and nails into him, and then switch to your rail gun. Eventually he will go down.
- Tip: There are ammo and health boxes in crates strewn along the sides of the room if you run low on either.
- Go towards the other open door and hit the console to turn off the laser grid.
- Cobra Squad will meet you inside Voss's room and open up a new door for you.
- You will be at the bottom of two flights of stairs. Strogg will attack you at each level, with a berserker rushing you as you reach the top of a flight. Take your time and advance carefully up these stairs. It should be a breeze, given the fact that you have both a medic and tech to patch you up between battles.
- Once you have cleared the way, walk out the door to be extracted and end the mission.
- Achievement: Act II is now complete.
-
Operation: Last Hope
- Note: This is another "mission briefing" level. You won't be seeing any action here.
- Get off the bed and walk out the door to your right. Make another right and then go through the first door on your left. Take the next to reach the Rhino briefing room.
- Tip: If you get lost, just follow the signs to the briefing area.
- After the briefing, exit the room and head left towards the armory. Make your way to the back again to get another clip extender upgrade, this time for your shotgun.
- Continue forward and take the door back out. Go down the ramp through the door on your left. Take another left to reach the drop pod launch bay. Hang left at the fork and enter the room. Walk all the way to the back and use the controls. This will lower the drop pod. Use it to end the level.
-
Data Storage Terminal
- After your adventurous landing, you'll find yourself next to a Tech. Pick up the lightning coils on the floor next to you and go through the open door in the next room.
- Equip your shotgun before proceeding through the next door, as a Grunt will charge at you.
- Head through the next open door and kill the Gunner beyond the obstruction. Take the door on your left.
- Continue on the walkways, dispatching the Tactical Strogg that runs in.
- You will eventually find yourself in the area where you killed the Gunner earlier. Before you go through the door, turn right and jump down to a pipe with an armor vest sitting on it. Continue walking, jumping, and crouching over this path of pipes until you reach a new room. Take the open door here.
- A Grunt will emerge from the debris at the center of the room here. Kill him and press the button to call the lift.
- Make your way around the catwalk here. You'll see a crashed drop pod on your right. Head towards the hole it made on the other side of the room. Crouch and move forward through the grating straight ahead to meet up with another marine.
- Refill on ammo/health and take the door opposite the marine. Press the button in here clear the smoke and fire. Be sure to pick up the small armor vest to the right of the console.
- Drop down and go through the door that was covered in fire earlier. Laugh at the trapped Grunt who gets burned alive.
- Continue onwards and you'll see an awesome looking gun being tended to by repair bots. Blow up all three repair bots and you will have yourself the dark matter gun!
- As soon as you pick it up, Tactical Strogg will stream into the room. Use this as an opportunity to test out your new toy. It will cut through them like butter. Mop up the stragglers and then head out the open door on the right.
- Achievement: You can now obtain the "Full Arsenal" achievement as soon as you pick up the dark matter gun. Switch between each of your weapons to fire and land a shot on the many Strogg here. The achievement will unlock when you complete the level.
- You'll meet up with two marines here who will accompany you. Pick up the ammo in the crates and then take the lift to end the level.
-
Data Storage Security
- While riding on the elevator, the Tech will modify your rail gun to allow you to fire through enemies.
- After it lands, go around to the open door in the back. Continue onwards until you reach a large room with a nice surprise. Go through the door furthest back.
- Keep following the linear path until you reach a room with a cutscene.
- A new enemy will be introduced to here, the Iron Maiden. She has the ability to teleport and will also fire rockets at you. Break out your hyper blaster and unload on her. Check to see that the body fades to green to make sure she is actually dead.
- Use the console up ahead to activate the TSD's.
- Now you must backtrack back to the elevator. Watch for Iron Maidens to appear from their previously docile caskets. You will also have to hit some panels to open doors on the way out.
- Eventually you'll meet up with the Hound you saw earlier. Make him the first priority, as he will spawn more Strogg to attack you if left unchecked.
- Your last test before you can take the elevator back up will be two Iron Maiden and several Tactical Strogg. If your squad is still alive, they will be a pretty big help here.
- Once all the enemies are dead, you are free to take the lift back up to end the level.
-
Data Storage Terminal Part 2
- Stock up on any ammo and armor you may have left behind the last time.
- Go through the first door and two berserker Strogg will charge at you. Keep your distance and kill them before taking any damage.
- Make your way through the corridors until you reach a lift. Take out the gunner Strogg in this room before taking it up.
- Resume your journey back to the large room you were denied before. Press the controls to raise the bridge to the center of the room.
- Take the open door to find a Strogg gunner. Rail him and continue forward.
- Press the button on the center console to open the large doors ahead. You'll have to drop down and take the lift up on the other end.
- Eventually you'll reach a checkpoint and the door will lock behind you. Two large Strogg Light Tanks will attack you in this very cramped space. Try to attack them with your power weapons as you backpedal around the room. Although it may seem like a daunting task, it shouldn't be that difficult as long as you keep your distance.
- Tip: There is a health station behind the elevator if you need it.
- Once the Tanks are dead, take the elevator up.
- You will find the controls to open the hangar doors here. Once that is done, ride the elevator back down and backtrack to the room with the large doors.
- Right as you reach the room, a giant Strogg called the Tower Guardian will burst through the floor. Don't worry, you won't have to fight him right now. Take the elevator up and walk around to the tech. He will give you the bounce shotgun mod. Go out the door you came in the first time to meet up with Rhodes.
- Continue backtrack to the room with the giant blue core. You can now go through the door on the other end. A Grunt will greet you as you do so.
- Keep moving until you reach a room with lift controls. Call the lift and pick up the armor and ammo on the ground surrounding it. Some Tactical Strogg will enter the room at this point. When the lift finally arrives, it will have a Grunt passenger on it. Kill it, and take the lift up.
- Tip: Corporal Rhodes is invincible. If you are lazy, you can have him kill all of the Strogg while you stay back and watch.
- Keep walking through hallways and open doors until you reach yet another lift that will take you above ground. Be sure to pick up the armor and ammo on the ground prior to the lift.
- A Strogg drop ship will drop off some Tactical Strogg for you to deal with. When the coast is clear, go to the console protruding out onto the canyon and activate the console.
- After you do so, you will be asked to return to the tram station. Backtrack down lifts and hallways until you reach the level exit.
-
Tram Hub Station
- Walk forward and collect all the goodies on the ground.
- A couple of Strogg, including a Gunner, will attack you in the next room. Kill them, pick up the armor on the ground and continue on.
- As you make your way down the dimly lit corridor, two berserkers will rush you. Start backpedaling and firing as soon as you see them.
- Most likely you'll end up in the previous room when you kill the berserkers. Watch out when you reenter the room, as more Strogg, including a Tank, will be crawling inside. Close quarters make using the rocket launcher a risky proposition. Only pull it out if you have lots of distance.
- When the coast is clear, go through the door on the left to pick up some dark matter cores. Then go through the front door, where you'll meet up with some marines outside.
- Once you help them fend off a few Strogg, they'll lend their assistance to you.
- A Strogg drop ship will deploy some baddies for you and your new friends to fight. Feel free to rail them or machinegun them from afar.
- When the coast is clear, go to the door on the front left where your squad is waiting. The tech will upgrade your lightning gun to damage multiple targets and open the door forward.
- The corridor here will be filled with Strogg. Lob a few grenades to the other end of the room to soften them up. Then take cover and use long-range weaponry to drop them before they get close.
- When you've cleared the hall, refill on ammo and take the elevator in front of your squad mates.
- Get your shotgun or hyper blaster ready as two Berserkers will attack you as soon as you get off the elevator. Lobbing a few grenades towards the door at the far end as soon as you walk forward may also be a good idea. The room is VERY cramped, so be careful. You may want to save beforehand to make sure you don't have to replay the level.
- Press the button ahead to raise the bridge. Go back down and proceed across with your squad.
- A Gladiator and Gunner will appear at the far side. Take cover and use your rail gun to snipe them from afar. Your teammates will leave you to continue on your own at this point.
- Go through the open door on your right and be prepared to fight some Strogg. Eventually you'll reach a locked door with two open windows. A squad of Strogg Soldiers will take pot shots at you from outside. Use your machinegun to kill them one by one.
- After they are all dead, jump down into the corner of the room. If you crouch into the opening on the left, you can pick up some dark matter cores before crawling your way outside.
- Carefully crawl along the pipes to your right around to the platform in the center. You'll snake your way to the area where you picked off the Strogg. If you walk towards the locked door, you'll find some ammo and armor on the ground.
- Take the open door on the right to another narrow corridor with some Tactical Strogg. Kill them and continue to a lift outside. You will meet up with Cortez.
- Follow Cortez to the Hub Control area.
- Tip: Cortez is from the invincible Rhino Squad. Feel free to let him do the bulk of the fighting up ahead to save you ammo and health.
- Many Strogg, including several Gunners and a Light Tank will be crawling around in the next area.
- An epic battle will take place once you take the door on the right. Strogg will stream out the far end on both floors. When the Gladiator makes his entrance, try to blow up the barrel next to the door. If you time it right, he will go down fairly quickly, allowing you to pick off the remaining soldiers with ease.
- After the battle, press the console on the left to extend a bridge across.
- Go to the other end and up some stairs back out to the Hub Monitor room. Get your shotgun read. A Strogg will roll in from the door in front of you as you proceed. Kill him, and then back up to use the health station.
- Go through the door and press the console to rotate the tram track.
- Continue through the newly opened door and down the ladder back outside to the tram. Make your way to the far side of the area and take the lift down to the Construction site.
- Crouch through the pipes when you have to until you come out to an area where a Grunt will attack you. Finish him off, and then lob a couple of grenades to the second floor to kill the gunner up there.
- As you walk into the next area the lights will go out. Quickly swap to your shotgun and get ready for a Berserker to drop down. After you finish him off, another Berserker will join the fight as well. Kill the remaining Strogg that comes in and go through the open door.
- Take out your lightning gun and unload onto the Hound that is waiting for you. With luck, you'll kill it before it spawns more Strogg. If not, at least the chain lightning effect will damage everyone.
- Move on through the next open area and operate the feeding mechanism.
- You will have to dodger the machinery in order to hop up to the area behind the conveyor belt. Press the button here and continue through the door.
- Look to your left and jump onto the conveyor belt. When the platform descends, get on it to get to the next level.
- Going through the door on your right will net you an armor vest and health pack.
- Proceed to the other door, where a few Tactical Strogg will knock down the wall and attack you. Be aware that there is an explosive barrel directly in front of you. Stay back next to the door and snipe at the soldiers from far away so you don't die from a stray bullet to the barrel.
- Go through the door on your left to find the repair bot controls. Activate them and then take the lift back down to the entrance of the Construction Site.
- Make your way back to the tram and Cortez to end the level.
-
Tram Rail
- This is a fun, easy, and short level. You will be on the tram's machinegun turret with unlimited ammo as it speeds down the track. Enemies will only attack you from one direction. (In fact, you can't even rotate the turret all the way around.) Feel free to keep the trigger held for the duration of the ride. Strogg drop ships and Strogg soldiers in trailing tram cars will attack your tram.
- Your tram's shields can take a beating AND they will recharge, making this mission very hard to lose unless you are not at your controller. Just aim at the enemies and fire. If you aim directly at the Tactical Strogg, their threat will be neutralized faster than if you had just shot at the tram car. The drop ships can be shot down too, but don't worry if you miss. They will go away after their initial bombing runs.
- Soon you will reach your destination and the level will end.

Data Processing Terminal
- Get off the tram and proceed forward. Pick up the ammo on the ground if you need it.
- Take the lift up to the next area. Activate the two sets of bridges once you stop moving and head towards the open door.
- Get your rail gun out and snipe the Gunner in the back. Walk through the door where he was standing. Prepare yourself for a small skirmish against a Gladiator and several Tactical Strogg. Use your grenade launcher on the Gladiator and whichever weapon you choose for the lesser Strogg.
- When the area is clear, move forward into the next room. Wait a few seconds for the reactor to build itself. Then press the console button to restore power to the building.
- Your new goal is to backtrack to the elevator room. Unfortunately, restoring the power has also activated the Iron Maiden chambers as well. Pull out your hyper blaster and kill the first one. Two more Iron Maidens, a Hound, and a Light Tank will show up near the center of the room. Again, make the Hound your priority kill as it will spawn more Strogg if left unchecked. Leave the Tank for last as it can absorb the most damage. Backpedal while unloading your nail gun on it to take it down.
- Tip: Use the Dark Matter gun if things get too crazy, it should help with crowd control.
- Try not to move too far into the room, because if you do you'll have to face all the enemies at once.
- You'll have to face some Strogg soldiers in the room before the elevator. Keep your distance as they have shotguns.
- Sgt. Sledge will meet you at the lift. He's from Rhino Squad, so you know you have a winner here.
- Go through the door on the other side of Sledge - it's open now.
- Pick up the health packs to your immediate left and continue forward. If you hang a left, you can grab some armor shards in a crate on your way to the console in the back.
- You'll need the refill, as once you call the elevator, all hell will break loose. Quickly switch to your rocket launcher and run towards the crate where you picked up the armor shards. The "Lift Call In Progress" sign will lift up revealing a Strogg teleporter. Unload several rockets into the teleporter to destroy it. This will stop the endlessly spawning Strogg soldiers from coming. With your rockets still equipped, head back towards the console. Two Stream Protectors similar to the ones you fought at the end of Act I will be there. Fortunately, you have a rocket launcher this time. Keep your distance and fire rockets into both of them until they fall.
- When the enemies are dead, the lift will have arrived. Get on with Sledge to end the level.
-
Data Processing Security
- Walk forward after the elevator stops and turn right. A Strogg ambush will immediately start firing at you. Use your zoomed in machinegun to take out the two soldiers and gunner.
- Continue through the back door. A Berserker will run in ahead of you. Make sure you take care of him quickly, before he has a chance to gut Sledge. If Sledge dies, it's game over for you.
- Grab the dark matter cores to your right and mop up the remaining Strogg soldiers from afar.
- Swing around the U-shaped hallway to the back. An Iron Maiden awaits you at the end of the hall. Let Sledge kill it while you help out with your hyper blaster. If you need health packs, they will be to the right of the Iron Maiden's resting area.
- Call the lift and descend it. Another large Strogg battle awaits you here. Snipe the gunner on the top floor and get ready to face another one on your level. Strogg Soldiers will also stream in here too.
- Once the coast is clear, walk to the locked door and head up the stairs to the left. You will see an interactive console. Press B twice to unlock the door. If you need lightning gun ammo, continue further down the hallway.
- Return to the formerly locked door and enter. Sentries will attack from the left. Once they crash, continue through the open door.
- Gingerly step around the flames and follow the red beam up above until you reach a console.
- Open the seal to reveal a machine and an Iron Maiden. Dispatch the Iron Maiden. Then, take the lift around the corner to the right.
- You will find another console here with a small puzzle. The goal is to rotate the mirrors such that the laser points towards the locked door. Rotate the bottom left mirror twice, the middle left one twice, the middle right one once, and the middle top one twice.
- Go through the newly opened door. You will eventually see a Sentry ahead in the center of the level. Take him out from afar and then walk to the right along the blue-lit pathway. Several Tactical Strogg will have taken positions here. Make your way to the other end of the room where another Sentry will appear on your left. As you walk towards the end of the hallway, a Gladiator will descend and start firing upon you. Quickly run back and take cover behind a corner. Lob some grenades down the hallway to kill it before it even comes close to you. Take the lift up.
- Another Gladiator will attack you to your immediate right down the hall. Use grenades again to kill it. Don't miss the health station here if you need it. There's also a small armor vest to the left of where you get off the lift.
- Continue down the hallway and through the door on your left. Switch to your hyper blaster as two Iron Maidens will attack you in the next room.
- When they are down, press the button to lower yourself and realign the data nodes.
- Follow Sledge through the open door ahead. Two more Iron Maidens will attack you here. However, first destroy the teleporter next to them. Aim at the glowing green sphere. When they are dead, a Light Tank will walk through the door in front of you. Keep your distance from everyone and you should come out unscathed. Feel free to stay back on the floor above and just lob grenades to him. He won't have a chance to get close
- Continue through the door up ahead. If you turn left and walk around you'll find a large armor vest and a large health pack in the little nook under the stairs. Go up the stairs and through the door, picking up the ammo on the right. Activate the lift and ascend.
- Scavenge the remains of Cougar Squad for supplies and continue forward and up another lift.
- Be prepared to fight a difficult battle. You will be facing off against two Heavy Hover Strogg Tanks that you fought while in a walker/walker earlier in the game. There is also a Gladiator in the center of the area. Go after one of the Hover Tanks first with your nail gun. Lock on and unload on it while dodging its fire. As long as you keep strafing, you should be able to avoid a lot of the damage. Repeat the process with the other Hover Tank. Finally, use your tried and true strategy of lobbing grenades at the Gladiator to take it down.
- Use the console at the far end to connect the Nexus Core.
- Backtrack all the way down to the main lift to end the level.

Data Processing Terminal Part 2
- The Tower Guardian will do his best to destroy your elevator to no avail.
- Achievement: You can easily get all of the "complete a level using only one weapon" achievements on this level. When the Guardian breaks through the glass on your elevator, you can shoot at it with your equipped weapon to register a hit. Don't use any other weapons for the rest of this short level and the achievement will unlock once the level ends. After the achievement unlocks, reload the level and repeat the process for all the weapon achievements you need. It should take no longer than a couple minutes per weapon.
- Take the lift down and make your way back to the tram to end the level.
-
Data Networking Terminal
- Stock up on health and ammo here. You should be able to fill up all of your reserves.
- Achievement: To get the Galactic Order of Heroism achievement, you must escort the Raven Squad members in this level successfully without them dying. There will be one medic, one tech, and one soldier that you must keep alive. The achievement will unlock at the loading screen once you complete the level.
- Head up the elevator when you are done. You'll meet up with Raven Squad here and prepare to be besieged. The lights will go off and enemy Strogg will teleport in. Focus on destroying the teleportation orbs first and then mop up the remaining Strogg.
- Go through the open door and activate the bridge. Move ahead and call the lift. There will be a Gunner Strogg on it. Kill it quickly. Again the lights will go dark and Strogg will teleport in. Quickly find the orbs and destroy them to stop the flow of enemies. Use a weapon that works well in close quarters, like the shotgun or hyper blaster. One well-placed shotgun blast will take a teleporter out.
- Ride the lift up to the next area. Again there will be a huge mass of Strogg up there, including a Light Tank. Quickly switch to your dark matter gun and kill the Tank as quickly as possible. Then, go ahead and shotgun the teleporter and mop up. With luck, your squad members will still be alive.
- The next room will contain just one teleporter. Make a beeline for it and shotgun it, then take care of any remaining Strogg.
- You'll reach a checkpoint after going through the next door. Equip your shotgun and be prepared to drop a berserker very quickly. Once he is dead, go forward and destroy the teleporter on the right. More Strogg will come in through the main door, but you can let your teammates handle those. A Gladiator will enter from the door to the right of the main one. If you are nimble enough, you can take it down solely with shotgun blasts. Hopefully your squad members survived the fracas ok. If they did, you are home free. Go through the door and the teleporter to end the level.
-
Data Networking Security
- From the teleporter, turn left and jump up. Go through the functioning door and be prepared to face a Gunner. The bridge may look rickety, but you can walk through it just fine. Use the health station if you need to and continue on.
- A Berserker, Gunner, and Tactical await you here. The room is pretty big so feel free to use whatever weapon suits you.
- You will see the Guardian fly up to you, but you still can't hurt it. Go around the debris to the right to find a door. The door won't open all the way, but it will open just enough to allow you to crouch under.
- Walk along the pipes carefully to reach the next open door.
- Several Tactical Strogg are hiding behind cover here. Kill them and move on.
- The doors in this area are locked. You'll have to head to the middle of the room and crouch under the walkway to reach the next area. Hop up to the door and take the lift upstairs.
- The door to your left will have some armor/ammo and a teleporter. Blow up the teleporter then head back towards the door on the right. Pick up all the supplies on the ground before heading up to the roof.
-
Boss Fight: Tower Guardian
- This is a very straightforward boss battle. There is no special trick to defeating the Guardian other than emptying oodles and oodles of ordinance into him.
- The Guardian has three methods of attacking you, a spread of nails, a large missile, and he will also try to burn you by flying over you with his jetpack.
- First, fire all the rockets you have at him. Then, switch over to your lightning gun and nail gun, respectively. While you are unloading on him, you should be constantly dodging his nail fire. If you see him firing the large missile, GET OUT OF THE WAY. It will almost certainly kill you in one hit. If he starts flying with his jetpack, run away to get some distance between you and him before you start firing again. Eventually the beast will fall and you will be able to activate the final tower.
- Once this is done, backtrack down the left and enter the teleporter. Be sure to pick up the health packs in front of the teleporter before you end the level.
-
Nexus Core
- Walk forward and left down towards the open door. The door will close in your face and two Tactical Strogg and a Tank will appear. Whip out your nail gun and empty a clip into the Tank to kill it. Machinegun the rest of the Strogg.
- Go into the only open door and make a left to use a console to open a door. Head the other way and defeat the Strogg you see here. Make use of the health station if you need it.
- As you walk forward, a Tank and a Tactical with a rail gun will rise on a lift at the bottom of the stairs. Rail the Tactical quickly, then empty a nail gun clip into the Tank to drop it. Get on the lift and take it down.
- Take out your shotgun, as you are about to be ambushed by many Strogg. Keep moving constantly throughout the elevator, firing your shotgun at the enemy. Two blasts should take each one out.
- When the elevator lands, quickly change to your dark matter gun. Fire it at the Gladiator and two Iron Maidens that attack you. Switch to your grenade launcher from a distance to finish off the Gladiator. There might be a Soldier loitering about afterwards as well. Pick up the insane amount of ammunition in front of the door and continue forward with your lightning gun equipped.
- A hound will be waiting to your immediate left as you walk through. Try to kill it as quickly as possible. If not, you'll have to deal with a couple of Grunts. Continue down the path and you will see another Hound at a checkpoint. He will try to run back into the next room. Follow him there and finish him off.
- The next room will contain a teleporter that will bring in an ungodly amount of shotgun and machinegun toting Strogg Soldiers. Try to use your hyper blaster or shotgun in killing them as soon as they appear. When you have killed enough, the teleporter will stop working and you will be able to continue forward.
- Call the lift and take it upstairs. Take out your shotgun and follow the linear path forward, killing the soldiers along the way.
- You will eventually find the elevator you are seeking. Walk inside it to take a little trip.
- Oops, looks like your Strogg scan didn't pass. Get out quickly and swap to your grenade launcher to take out the Gladiator to your left. Once it is dead, switch to your shotgun to take out the Soldiers streaming in from your right. An Iron Maiden will appear once they are dead, so take out your hyper blaster to erase her.
- Drop down into the pipe ahead to continue your journey. You'll have to crouch to move forward. Climb up the ladder when you see it to reach a weapons and armor cache.
- After stocking up, continue forward. You can ignore the first door on the left as it leads to a dead end. Strogg will attack you when you get to the room with the large septic tanks. An Iron Maiden, Gunner, and several Tacticals round out this attack squad.
- More Soldiers will be in this large elevator room. Kill them and get on the lift.
- Shotgun the Strogg you see here in the back and hit the switch to disable security. Go back downstairs and walk back to the door that was a previous dead end. You will have to contend with a gunner and diving Strogg on your way back.
- Seem familiar? Walk around the elevator capsule to the door on the other end. Pick up the supplies here because you will need them for the huge battle up ahead.
- Two Light Tanks will be the initial attackers you have to face. Backpedal around the room, shooting them with your rail gun to conserve ammo. When you kill one, another will take its place. After all three are dead, quickly use a health station on the side if you need it.
- Two Heavy Hover Tanks will now appear. Take out your nail gun and empty clips into them. Take cover behind the pillars to avoid their nails. Watch out for their rockets as well. Again, when one dies, another will take its place.
- Finally, you will have to face two Stream Protectors, with a third joining the fray once one dies. Use your rocket launcher or dark matter gun here.
- Go through the open door here and pick up a much-needed large health pack.
- Strauss will make a comment on how magnificent the technology must look. Turn to your right and climb down the ladder. Crouch and jump your way on the path of pipes. Your goal is to reach a ladder on the other side of the room. Climb that ladder and look to your left for a single pipe next to the wall. It's hard to spot so look carefully. Drop onto that pipe and make your way up it to the highest platform. Go through the open door here.
- Take out your rail gun and rail the Tacticals Strogg here. There are a bunch, and many of them also have rail guns so take your time.
- Continue forward, collecting all of the ammo and supplies on the floor.
- Eventually, you'll come to a very long room. A couple of Soldiers will attack first, then a Light Tank and a Gladiator will burst in on the scene. Fire your dark matter gun down the hallway into the open door. After a few shots, you should be able to take out most of the opposition.
- Tip: If you drop down and crouch through the openings, you will reach a large armor vest. Turn around and crouch to the end of the room to find a ladder back up.
- Pick up the armor and use the health station in the next room. Use the switch to end the level.
-
The Nexus
- Walk along the bridge, stocking up on weapons and armor.
Final Boss Fight: The Makron
- There are three forms of the Makron that you will have to battle, none of which are terribly difficult.
- In its first form, the Makron will fire a giant dark matter ball at you along with shooting high-powered nails. These can be avoided with some basic dodging skills. Take out your nail gun and empty about a clip and a half of locked on nails into the Makron. It should go down.
- Dark Matter will coalesce around the Makron and refill its health meter. When it gets up and starts walking around, it will be vulnerable again. The Makron's attacks are similar to its first form, except this time it will spawn Strogg around the room. You can ignore the lesser Strogg for the most part and concentrate on the Makron. Again, use the lock on nail gun until you run out of ammo. Then, switch to the hyper blaster or lightning gun to finish it off.
- At this point, four teleporters will appear at the corners of the rooms. The Nexus will descend to the center of the room. It looks like a giant brain enveloped in an energy shield.
- Go to one of the corners and enter a teleporter. It will take you to the second floor. Refill on health and ammo here if you need it and take out your rocket launcher. Heavy Hover Tank Strogg and other assorted enemies will spawn around you, but you will want to ignore them unless you need to dodge fire. Fire a rocket above the brain at the black tire-looking device. This will disable the shields temporarily. Unload all the rockets you can at the Nexus. If the shields recharge, fire another rocket at the tire to disable it again. Only one rocket is needed to deplete the shields. You will have to wait a couple of seconds for the Nexus to become vulnerable though.
- Congratulations, you've finished the single player campaign for Quake 4!
