  • Pyrenean Shepherd History

In World War I, the Pyrenean shepherd was used as a "communications dog" by the French army. After the war, when the numbers of dogs had diminished due to casualties suffered, they were bred to emphasize their herding skills. In the 1920s, standards for the breed were developed in France, and the Reunion des Amateurs de Chiens Pyreneens was created in 1923.Pyrenean Sheepdog Club of Great Britain: History
