Health Problems
Like many large breeds, the Pyrenean mountain dogs commonly suffer from hip problems. They also may be prone to issues with their eyes and ears. Their long hair requires regular brushing and semi-annual grooming to reduce shedding. It is however recommended that their coat is not cut short during Summer months, as it protects from sunburn.Dogsindepth.com: Great PyreneesSports or Activities
The breed was originally bred as herders and protectors of livestock in France and Spain. They are very protective by nature and will bark to alert of an unfamiliar person or sound, especially at night. Along with their barking, their desire to run and need for daily exercise make them a less than prime choices for city or apartment living.
