Pyrenean Mountain Dog

  • The Pyrenean mountain dog is a large breed of dog that has thick and long gray, white or tan hair. They are also known as the great Pyrenees in the United States.
  • Health Problems

    Like many large breeds, the Pyrenean mountain dogs commonly suffer from hip problems. They also may be prone to issues with their eyes and ears. Their long hair requires regular brushing and semi-annual grooming to reduce shedding.   • Sports or Activities

    The breed was originally bred as herders and protectors of livestock in France and Spain. They are very protective by nature and will bark to alert of an unfamiliar person or sound, especially at night. Along with their barking, their desire to run and need for daily exercise make them a less than prime choices for city or apartment living.
