Punxsutawney Phil is a famous groundhog from Gobbler's Knob, Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvanians claim that he is the one and only weather prognosticating groundhog on Groundhog Day. Legend dictates that if on Groundhog Day Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow when he comes out of his den on Gobbler's Knob, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, "there will be an early spring."Groundhog.org: Official Site of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club

The Legend of Punxsutawney Phil
When asked how many groundhogs have been named Punxsutawney Phil over the last century, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club says, "One." How is that possible, you ask? According to the Groundhog Club, the one and only Punxsutawney Phil drinks one small sip from a magical potion called the "elixir of life" each summer that is said to add seven more years to his life.Groundhog.org: Official Site of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club
