Punk Fashion History
Punk fashions began to emerge in the 1970s. The look was meant to be shocking and rebellious. Punk fashion was influenced by Malcolm McLaren and clothes sold at his shop SEX. A major part of the punk fashion scene were T-shirts with offensive language or images.Punk fashion became more raw and angry during the 1980s. Many of the trends originated in the United Kingdom. Clothing included footwear like motorcycle boots, leather pants, studded belts, and chains. Spiked hair and T-shirts with political slogans or band names written in magic marker were also common.
Today's punk styles are divided into different categories, but tend to have traits and influences that span across the entire spectrum of punk.
