More Than Pies and Jack-o'-Lanterns
The use of pumpkin or pumpkin flavoring has become a popular addition to many foods and beverages. While fresh pumpkins are generally only available during Fall months, canned pumpkin puree can be purchased all year. Pumpkin puree can be used for pies, breads, soups, muffins, cupcakes, fudge and several other desserts. While pie is traditionally served at Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings, many are choosing to replace the popular dessert with pumpkin cheesecake. The seeds are also commonly cooked and eaten following pumpkin carving around Halloween.
