Public Enemies is a 2009 crime film directed by Michael Mann. The film is based on the book Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43 by Bryan Burrough. The film stars Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum and Steven Graham.
Movie Synopsis
Public Enemies is set during the Great Depression. The film explores the story of an FBI agent named Melvin Purvis (played by Christian Bale), who sets out to end the crime sprees of legendary gangsters like John Dillenger (played by Johnny Depp), Baby Face Nelson (played by Stephen Graham) and Pretty Boy Floyd (played by Channing Tatum).
The film is written by Ronan Bennett, Ann Biderman and Michael Mann, produced by Michael Mann and Kevin Misher and distributed by Universal.
