PsyStar

PsyStar is a computer manufacturer based in Miami, Florida. The company has made and is distributing a computer called the OpenMac, designed to challenge Apple computers and specifically Apple's Mac Mini products.

The OpenMac sells for $399, about half that of the Mac Mini. PsyStar claims it is fully compatible with Apple's Leopard operating system.

Bloggers and critics have long speculated that PsyStar could face legal action based upon an Apple licensing agreement stating that Mac operating systems may only be used on Apple hardware. Indeed, Apple agreed that offering Mac OS X Leopard on a separate operating system was a violation, and filed suit on July 3, 2008.

Psystar followed with their own counter-suit on August 26, 2008, accusing Apple of anti-competitive tactics and monopolization of the Mac OS X operating system.
