Protozoa are single-celled microorganisms that can be found in virtually any aqueous environment and in many types of soil. They are too small to be seen by the naked eye, but are easily seen with a microscope.
Protozoa and Disease
Although some protozoans can cause illness by themselves, they may also be involved in spreading bacterial infections. Protozoans feed on bacteria, and as such may cause contamination of things they come in contact with. Research has indicated that protozoans may have contributed to outbreaks of food borne illnesses from meat and produce.
