Project Gotham Racing is a racing video game and launch title for the Xbox. The game eventually became the second-best Xbox game of all time in terms of sales, only trailing Halo: Combat Evolved. It is believed that the game is the sequel to "Metropolis Street Racer," a game featured on the Sega Dreamcast. However, Sega still had the rights to the name, so Bizzare Creations came up with a different name. Project Gotham Racing featured 29 designer vehicles and four different cities.
Gameplay
There were only four cities in the game: London, Tokyo, New York and San Francisco. Each of the four cities featured three different districts. While winning races are an important part of the game, the game also takes into consideration the style of play a driver uses. Players earn "Kudos" during a race several ways:
- Slides: Pass through a turn cleanly.
- Jumps: A player earns the kudos depending on how long the vehicle was in the air.
- 360-turn: If a car does a 360-degree turn in the air, a player earns kudos.
- Overtakes: A player earns kudos for passing another vehicle cleanly. This only occurs during a 1-on-1 race or Overtake Challenge race.
- Clean Section: If a vehicle goes checkpoint to checkpoint without hitting any walls, vehicles or other hazards, a player earns kudos.
- Time Bonus: Players earn a ratio amount of kudos in a timed race or hot lap race depending on how much time is left on the clock at the finish.
