General Tips
- Over the course of the game you'll run into several puzzles that involve looking at a series of statements said by a group of people and then deducing which one of them is lying. These puzzles are pretty much all solved the same way. Go down the list of statements individually and assume that each person is telling the truth (or is lying, depending on what the puzzle asks). Then, check that statement with the others to see if there are any contradictions.
- In multiple choice puzzles, rather than try to single out the correct answer, you should instead eliminate all of the choices that can't possibly be correct. Doing so will usually narrow your choices down to two, thus making the puzzle much more manageable.
- There are many puzzles in the game that are much simpler than they seem. Whenever you are stumped or think that a puzzle just simply can't be solved, carefully re-read the question and pay close attention to the wording.
- Use a pen and paper! Draw graphs, diagrams, equations, anything that you need to help you out. Sometimes just thinking about a puzzle isn't enough. It'll help tremendously when you're able to actually see yourself going through the steps of solving a puzzle.
- The painfully obvious answer is usually the wrong answer. 90% of the time if you think an answer to a puzzle is too obvious to truly be the answer, it is. In situations like this, re-read the puzzle, and look for some way that there could be another solution. If you search and search and still can't find any other solution, then go with the obvious.
- Don't get too advanced with mathematics. Some of the puzzles in the game seem like they would use fancy geometric formulas, but almost all of the puzzles in Professor Layton can be solved with very minimal mathematic knowledge. If you try to apply the Pythagorean Theorem to the puzzle Arc and Line, chances are you won't find the right answer and you'll spend a lot more time arriving at that wrong answer.

Hint Coins
- Hint coins can be found in every area of Professor Layton and are uncovered by tapping specific parts of the background.
- During a puzzle, whenever you get stuck you can use a hint coin to have the game give you up to three hints that progressively make the answer more and more clear.
- Certain puzzles, like the block moving puzzles, usually won't have very much to offer in terms of clues since solving them is simply a matter of moving the blocks around yourself. For these puzzles, it's highly advisable to save your hint coins.

Secret Puzzles
- There are 15 secret puzzles in Professor Layton that can't be accessed in the main game. These puzzles are listed under Layton's Challenges in the bonus menu and are unlocked by fufilling certain conditions.
- To unlock puzzles 121 - 123, you must assemble your robot dog, Gizmo, by collecting all of the Strange Gizmos. These can be collected by completing puzzles #16, #19, #20, #21, #23, #24, #25, #27, #28, #29, #30, #31, #32, #34, #35, #37, #38 and #41.
- To unlock puzzles 124 - 126, you must collect all of the items to furnish Layton and Luke's rooms. These items can be found by completing puzzles #18, #33, #43, #46, #47, #49, #50, #53, #55, #56, #57, #61, #63, #69, #71, #72, #73, #75, #77, #78, #80, #82, #85, #88, #89, #91, #103, #104 and #109. Scroll down to the next subsection to find where each item goes.
- To unlock puzzles 127-129, you must complete the portrait by collecting all of the puzzle pieces and then assembling the jigsaw puzzle. These pieces can be collected by completing puzzles #14, #17, #26, #36, #45, #48, #51, #52, #54, #59, #60, #62, #79, #81, #83, #86, #87, #90 and #93.
- To unlock puzzles 130 - 132, you must beat the game.

- As mentioned above, in order to unlock puzzles 124 - 126, you must correctly furnish Layton and Luke's rooms. Here are the items that belong to each character.

Prologue
- After being introduced to Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke, you will automatically be charged with solving a string of puzzles separated by cutscenes.
Puzzle #1 - Where's the Town?

- As you might have guessed, the first puzzle is fairly simple. Use the process of elimination to find the one road that doesn't lead to any other villages but one.
- The answer is the top left village with the red roofs.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
Puzzle #2 - The Crank and Slot
- Once again, use process of elimination here. Based on the picture, which choices can we eliminate?
- Two is out, because the triangle shape is coming out of the pointed side of the pentagon.
- The answer is slot number one.
- Reward: 15 Picarats
- Once you regain control, tap the old lady to initiate puzzle #3.
Puzzle #3 - Strange Hats
- There isn't really any trick to this one. Just turn each hat on its side and try and picture which one has a brim that is equal to the height
- It can't be B or D...
- The answer is A.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the barrel in front of the Inn
- Tap the barrel in front of the third house on the right side
- Tap the furthest window to the right on the first house on the right side.
- After getting all of the hint coins, tap the boot and head north to begin Chapter One.

- Talk to Percy to initiate puzzle #4.
Puzzle #4 - Where's My House?
- Remember that the sun rises in the east, so if at the end of your trip you're facing the east side, how must you have come according to the instructions given?
- Work backwards. You just turned the corner so that you're facing east, and now you're heading back. You make a left, another left, a right and you're home. Which way must the driveway be facing in order for this to be true?
- There's only one driveway facing north, and that is the blue house in the middle.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Tap the clock to start up puzzle #5
Puzzle #5 - Digital Digits
- This is a simple puzzle, but it's tricky. Your best bet on this one is to just get a pen and paper and start writing them down.
- Don't forget 11:10, 11:11, 11:12, etc.
- Don't forget that there are 24 hours in a day, not 12. Whatever answer you had after going through all the possibilities once, double it.
- The answer should be 34.
- Reward: 50 Picarats

Puzzle #6 - Light Weight
- Every time you restart, the "light weight"changes, so don't bother trying to weigh them individually.
- Try putting three weights on each side and see if that gets your brain going.
- If the weights are equal, then it must be one of the two remaining.
- If the weights are unequal, take the three lighter weights, and measure two of them
- If both of those weights are equal, then the weight you didn't measure is the answer.
- There is no set answer I can give for this puzzle since its random. Just follow the above instructions.

Puzzle #7 - Wolves and Chicks
- There isn't really a trick to this puzzle. Just follow the rules and it'll eventually come to you.
- First place a wolf and a chick on the raft and send it off.
- Take the chick back to the other side.
- Place two wolves on the raft and send it off.
- One wolf comes back, two chicks get on and get sent off.
- One wolf and one chick come back, two chicks get on and get sent off
- One wolf comes back, two wolves get on and get sent off.
- One wolf comes back, the final two wolves get on and get send to the other side.
- Reward: 50 Picarats
- We're not done here yet. Tap the flowers on the other side of the river to start up puzzle #8.
Puzzle #8 - Farm Work
- This is a simple puzzle with a bunch of extraneous text. Look closely at what exactly the question is asking.
- Remember that the two farm workers split a 10 acre field in half. That means that they should split the money 50/50.
- Nowhere in the puzzle does it say that the speed of the work is factored in the pay.
- The answer is $50.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Head north towards the manor, enter the door, and congratulations on completing chapter one.

- As you're lead into the manor Matthew the Butler decides to test your meddle with a match puzzle.
Puzzle #9 - One Poor Pooch
- Just keep the basic anatomy of a dog in mind when you're moving around the matches.
- The triangle represents the head, the match at the end is the tail, the square is the body, and the four matches at the bottom are legs. The dog must have all of these in the final product.
- Don't think of this in real life terms. Think of a cartoon dog getting flattened by a steamroller.
- Move the two inside legs to the top half of the square facing outwards.
- Reward: 35 Picarats

- Tap the circular painting underneath the middle of the three paintings by the stairs.
- Tap the top level of the bookcase.

Puzzle #10 - Alphabet
- The trick is all in the wording of the puzzle.
- The part of the puzzle that says "...and the letter B comes after the letter A"is there to trick you. Pay it no mind and focus on what the puzzle wants you to guess.
- The answer is "T". T is the last letter of the word alphabet.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- There are two puzzles here in this next room, but we'll go in numerical order. Talk to the guy with the glasses towards the back of the room to start up puzzle #11.
Puzzle #11 - Arc and Line
- I know what you're thinking, but stop. You don't need the Pythagorean Theorem to solve this puzzle. There is an easier way that doesn't involve anything but the most basic of math skills.
- What do we know about rectangles and their diagonals? (They're equal)
- What do we know about circles and their radii? (Any point on the circle is equidistant from the center.)
- BD is not only a radius, but its also a diagonal of the rectangle, which makes it equal to AC.
- AC = 10 inches.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Once that's done, examine the chandelier for puzzle #110.
Puzzle #110 - The Vanishing Cube
- You're going to have to take one match and make it stand totally vertically.
- The resulting three cubes will only touch at their edges.
- In the row of three cubes, take the top match of the middle cube and turn it vertically.
- Reward: 20 Picarats

- Tap the painting above Simon's head (the guy with the glasses)
- Tap the pot behind Lady Dahlia
- Once your business is finished in terms of puzzles and hint coins, talk to Dahlia to start off chapter two.
Puzzle #13 - Sinking Ship
- Don't forget that one person has to remain in the boat in order to row it back to the ship to pick up more people.
- It takes 9 minutes for a round trip and the ship sinks in 20 minutes, which means that there is only time for two roundtrips. However, there are still two minutes left over after the raft comes back a second time.
- Since the raft doesn't have to come back a third time, it is able to make three trips to the island.
- 4 + 4 + 5 = 13. 13 People will live to see dry land.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- After finishing the puzzle, continue heading south. In the next area, go into the blue door by tapping the boot and then touching the door.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the box with posters inside it.
- Tap the cabinet above the chairs.
- Tap the second level of the shelf in the back.
- Examine the chairs in the back to initiate puzzle #14.
Puzzle #14 - Which Chair
- You're going to have to think outside of the box a bit on this one.
- Concerts, sporting events, and conventions all demand a different number of seats. What kind of chair is suitable for these needs?
- Picture yourself working backstage and having to set up and clean up all of those chairs. Which chair would take up the least amount of space when stored?
- The answer is E because it is the only chair that is stackable.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- Examine the candle while you're in this room as well to start up another puzzle.
Puzzle #15 - How Many Are Left?
- It's another tricky question where the key is in the wording.
- Look specifically at what they're asking. It's not how many candles went out or didn't go out, it is how many candles are left.
- Assume that the man came back several hours later to check on the candles. If the wind didn't extinguish the flames on the lit candles, what would've happened to them?
- The answer is three. The candles that were extinguished still retained their shape as candles. The candles that were still lit eventually melted.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
- You're done in this room for now, so head out of the building and move westwards to the clock tower area.
- After getting the strange gizmo from Franco, tap on Claudia to once again have her run away. We'll go after her in a bit, but first we have business in the house with the blue door.
- Enter the house and talk to Rodney to initiate our next puzzle.
Puzzle #16 - Triangles and Ink
- Your first thought might be to count up all of the triangles in the big triangle and divide by four. If you look closely at the puzzle though, you'll see why this doesn't work.
- You have enough ink to draw four triangles to make that shape, but you only need to draw three triangles to make it. The middle triangle is formed automatically from drawing the three outer triangles.
- Count up the triangles again, but this time, ignore the triangles that you don't need to draw, and divide it by 3.
- Your answer should be 7.
- Reward: 40 Picarats
- There's one more hidden puzzle in this room, and you can find it by examining the window in the back.
Puzzle #118 - Red and Black Cards
- This puzzle is simpler than it sounds. If you have to, take out a piece of paper and write down a few hypothetical scenarios.
- If one deck has 20 reds, it must have 6 blacks. Likewise, the other deck must have the remaining 6 reds and 20 blacks.
- The answer is 1000. No matter how you shuffle the cards, the number of red cards in one deck will match the number of black cards in the other and vice versa.
- Reward: 50 Picarats
- Before leaving this room, feel free to hunt down some hint coins.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the cupboard the Rodney is standing in front of.
- Tap the brown picture frame in the back above the blue painting.
- Tap the black area underneath the desk at the back.
- Before we can chase after Claudia, we need to check into the Inn at the entrance of the village. So head south after leaving the building.
- Talk to the guy with the mustache for your next puzzle.
Puzzle #17 - Five Card Shuffle
- The best way to go about this one is simply going card by card and checking out the details on each one. Which cards overlap? Which way does the pointed side face? Ask questions like these as you compare the cards.
- The difference is in the spade in the middle and its relationship to one of the cards around it.
- The answer is D. The club that is facing the heart should be overlapping the spade, not underlapping.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- When you're done, head into the Inn and talk to the lady behind the desk.
- Talk to her once again after the conversation ends to start up another puzzle.
Puzzle #18 - Of Dust and Dustpan
- The new dustpan you make will be facing downwards.
- Take the match on the right, flip it 180 degrees and put it on the left side of the trash ball.
- Take the match facing right and move it so that it fits between the two matches facing downwards.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
- Examine the picture above Beatrice for a hidden puzzle.
Puzzle #112 - My Beloved
- Play around with rotating the pieces and see if you come with anything to build from.
- Ignore the image of the old man and focus on the black space.
- Flip all of the pieces so that the black spaces face the center. This should give you an idea of what goes where.
- Remember that she is wearing a hat, so make sure that your final picture reflects that.
- Reward: 50 Picarats
- Before you leave here, you can find a few hint coins.

- Tap between the cushions of the sofa.
- Tap the lap on Beatrice's desk.
- Once you're all done, head out of the Inn, go south to the drawbridge, and check the car for one more puzzle before we can get back to finding the cat.
Puzzle #19 - Parking Lot Gridlock
- There is no limit to the number of moves that you can use to solve this puzzle, so I would recommend just working it out yourself until you get it.
- The in-game hints tell you to move the two cars directly in front of the Laytonmobile first by moving the horizontal car in front of them. Once that's done, move the Laytonmobile forward, and rearrange the cars in the back so you can make room to move the cars blocking the exit.
- Reward: 30 Picarats

Puzzle #20 - Unfriendly Neighbors
- This one is pretty tough. Start off by connecting B since it's the shortest route and cuts off the least amount of road.
- The path for D goes around the north end.
- The path for A goes around the bottom C point.
- The path for C goes between the bottom B and A points.
- Reward: 50 Picarats
- We're not done with angry guy yet. Talk to him again and he'll give you puzzle #21.
Puzzle #21 - Pill Prescription
- This puzzle may initially seem silly as you'd think that for ten days you'd label ten pills. But put yourself in the man's shoes and see why 10 isn't the minimum number of labels he has to write.
- If he's taking the pills starting today, he doesn't need to label the first pill since he'll be taking it immediately after labeling it.
- Likewise, he doesn't need to label the last pill because it's the only one left.
- The answer is 8.

Puzzle #22 - Pigpen Partitions
- This is one puzzle where you will learn by doing. Try out a couple of different configurations of the three ropes and see if you can get closer to the solution.
- As you can see, the problem pig is going to be the one in the center, so rather than focusing on the big picture, just focus on separating the middle pig from everyone else.
- The ropes should form a tight triangle around the center pig, isolating not only him, but every other pig from each other as well.
- To be more specific, rope one should go from the top first post on the left, to the bottom second post from the right. Rope two should go from the top first post on the right to the bottom second post from the left. Rope three should go straight across from the post just below the top left pig to the first post below the top right pig.

- Examine the poster on the house with the blue door to find yet another hidden puzzle.
Puzzle #111 - Mystery Item
- Think of the matches as letters. You have three O's and a D. That should make it obvious what the answer to the riddle is based on the clue given.
- The tricky part about this puzzle is figuring out how to make the word by only moving one match. Just know that it is ok if one letter is bigger than the others.
- Take the right most match of the first square and put it under the left most match of the same square to make a capital F and spell FOOD.
- Reward: 40 Picarats

- Tap the basket in the bottom left of the screen.
- Head into the blue door and talk to the barkeep to start up the next puzzle
Puzzle #23 - Juice Pitchers
- Fans of the movie Die Hard With a Vengeance should recognize this puzzle. Either way, you should get used to them because you're going to be seeing a lot of these.
- Once again, the best way advice to be given for these kinds of puzzles is to learn by doing. But if you're looking for the solution, here it is.
- Pour the 8 quart into the 5 quart (3 -5 -0)
- Pour the 5 quart into the 3 quart (3 -2 -3)
- Pour the 3 quart into the 8 quart (6 -2 -0)
- Pour the 5 quart into the 3 quart (6 -0 -2)
- Pour the 8 quart into the 5 quart (1 -5 -2)
- Pour the 5 quart into the 3 quart (1 -4 -3)
- Pour the 3 quart into the 8 quart (4 -4 -0)

Puzzle #25 - Equilateral Triangle
- Fiddle around with the coins for a little while and see if anything comes to mind.
- You should realize that with only three moves, you won't be able to do much with the inner coins of the triangle.
- The three coins that you're going to have to move are the three corners of the triangle.
- Take the bottom two corners and put them on the sides of the second row from the top. Then take the top corner and place it below the bottom two coins.
- Reward: 25 Picarats
- Finally we can do what we originally set out to do and catch that darn cat. Well, almost. There is one more puzzle that stands in our way.
- Head out of the restaurant and then head north to the park entrance.
- Once there tap on the vase in the lower right to uncover puzzle #26.
Puzzle #26 - Bottle Full of Germs
- The first thing you should do is compile what you know. 1 germ will fill the jar in 60 minutes and each germ will split into two every minute. As opposed to the example, your jar has two germs already inside.
- All you really have to figure out is how much time you save by having an extra germ in the jar at the start.
- If you have to, draw a table listing the number of germs and the amount of time that has passed. You shouldn't have to go very far before you see how much time you would save.
- The answer is 59 minutes. You would only save one minute by having two germs in the jar as apposed to just one.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Don't forget to collect some hint coins before proceeding

- Tap the top of the left pillar.
- Tap the spec of dirt closest to Claudia and the park gate.
- Tap the top of the stone wall under the tree furthest to the right.

Puzzle #27 - Bickering Brothers
- As always with these kinds of puzzles, you should first spend a couple of minutes trying out various different combinations yourself and see if you find something that works.
- Let's look at what we know for sure. Brother #2 only has three possible seats because he can't sit in the top half of the table since brother #1 is there. Play around with placing brother #2 in one of his three possible spots and build around it.
- Brother #3 is seated to the right or left of brother #1.
- Starting from the top and going clockwise, the order is: 1, 3, 6, 4, 2, and 5. The inverse of that also works which would be 1, 5, 2, 4, 6, 3.
- Reward: 40 Picarats
- To start up the next puzzle, talk to Matthew.
Puzzle #28 - Find the Dot
- Try picturing in your mind where the black dot is in relation to the red dot on the front. Once you figure that out, it's a simple matter of rotating the piece and visualizing where the dot will be when you flip it again.
- When you flip the shape to its back, the black dot appears two points to the left of where the red dot was. In order for this to happen, the black dot has to be two points to the right of the red dot when the front of the shape is showing.
- If all else fails, draw a picture, cut it out, and try it yourself.
- The black dot should go in the south east point of the shape.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- With those two puzzles out of the way, talk to Inspector Chemley to proceed with more storytelling.
- Once Chemley leaves, talk to Matthew who will let you enter Dahlia's room.
- As you should know by now, a new room means more hint coins.

Chapter Three - The Missing Servant
- As soon as the chapter begins, examine the middle of the right curtain for another hint coin.
- Don't forget to view the photo on the right side of the room as well before you leave.
- Head back to the Manor Parlor and speak with Inspector Chemley for the next puzzle.
Puzzle #29 -Five Suspects
- You'll be seeing several of these types of "Who is lying"puzzles in the future, but they're all solved basically in the same way. It's a lot of information, so digest each piece one at a time.
- Go down the list of statements one by one and assume each one is true. Then see if you can find any contradictions that would make that person a liar.
- For example, E obviously must be lying because if he was telling the truth, he'd be a liar at the same time by saying all five, including him, are dirty rotten liars.
- Of all the criminals, the only one whose statement doesn't contradict the others is D. Therefore, one criminal should be released.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Head down the stairs and talk to Matthew in the Manor Foyer to update the mystery of Lady Dahlia.
- After that's done, head outside and tap Claudia to find a piece of evidence on the disappearance of Simon. Then head south to the Manor Border and talk to Agnes to receive puzzle #30
Puzzle #30 - One Line Puzzle #1
- Start off by tracing each picture yourself and see which ones you can draw without lifting your stylus. Don't jump to conclusions though; there might be another way to draw the object without breaking the line.
- To quote the in-game hint #2: "If your pen is entering a point formed by an even number of lines, you will always be able to leave the point via another line."
- The answer is the house in the bottom left.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- Walk south and talk to Marco twice for the next puzzle.
Puzzle #31 - Racetrack Riddle
- This puzzle isn't as complicated as it may seem. Read the question carefully before doing complex calculations.
- It doesn't matter how fast the horses run in one minute, just where they end up once that one minute is up.
- Horse A runs two laps in one minute, Horse B runs three laps in one minute, Horse C runs four laps in one minute. See where I'm going with this?
- After one minute, all three horses will meet back at the starting line.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- Head into the house with the blue door and tap on the jar of candy. Like everything else, it will remind Layton of a puzzle.
Puzzle #32 - Candy Jars
- If the answer to this puzzle doesn't come to you immediately, you might want to get a piece of paper out and write some stuff down.
- Rather than think of the candy in terms of 10 jars, let's just say that there are 500 pieces of candy that we want to distribute into 20 small bags.
- Since 500 is such a big number, let's downsize it to make it more manageable. Imagine you have 20 pieces of candy that you're trying to put into 4 bags.
- It doesn't matter how many candies you put in each bag, the average will always be the same number. Therefore the answer is 100%.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- We're not done in here yet though. Tap the candle to initiate another candle related puzzle.
Puzzle #33 - Light Which One
- Read the question carefully while looking at all of the pictures shown below. There is one object there that MUST be lit first in order to do any of the other actions.
- You can probably light the lamp and use the fire from that to light the fireplace and the bathtub, but that's still not the first thing that you must light.
- The answer is the match. You must first light the match before you can light anything else.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Now that everything in this room has been taken care of, head outside and then travel west.
- Once you are at the Plaza, talk to the young boy, Percy, twice for the next puzzle.
Puzzle #34 - How Many Sheets?
- The best way to go about doing this is by writing down the number of overlaps in each section.
- So for example, the inverted L shape on the left side has only 1 paper with no overlaps, so label it with a 1. The shape next to that has two overlaps, so label it with a two. Continue on from there and you'll eventually find the spot with the most overlaps.
- Since there are only 7 sheets, the number must be less than 7.
- The answer is 5.

Puzzle #58 - Get the Ball Out 1
- Just solving this puzzle is very easy, and you'll eventually stumble across it if you move blocks around long enough, but if you're looking for how to do it in 12 moves, here are the steps
- Right blue block goes up
- Top purple block goes up and then left
- Bottom purple block goes up two spaces
- Bottom square goes right
- Left blue block goes down and right
- Green block goes down two spaces
- Top square goes left
- Ball comes down as far as it can go
- Top square goes right
- Green block goes up.
- Bottom blue block goes left
- Orb goes in the hole, and you're done.

Puzzle #35 - Strange Dots
- You may be tempted to think that there is some numerical pattern behind this puzzle. There really isn't. The dots represent positions more than they do numbers.
- Think of an object with numbers on it that bears a strong similarity to the die and their numerical values.
- Think of a clock
- That's right, D would correspond to the number 3.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Once again, new area means three more hint coins, so here they are:

Puzzle #36 - Too Many Mice
- This is a tricky puzzle, but perhaps not for the reason why you think it is tricky. Read the question several times to understand why.
- There is absolutely no math involved with this puzzle.
- If you still don't get it, read the last paragraph of the puzzle again until you do.
- The puzzle says "You picked up one of these darling baby mice..."Mice aren't asexual animals, so it would be impossible for the mouse to mate.
- The answer, therefore, would be 1.

Puzzle #37 - Brother and Sister
- Write down some potential ages for both siblings and test them. They'll obviously have to be fairly low if you want them to meet the stipulations required by the puzzle.
- Note that the puzzle doesn't tell you how much older the older sister is compared to the younger brother. She could be just days or months older than him.
- Try making them the same age.
- The answer is that both siblings are six.
- Reward: 40 Picarats

- To echo the in game clue since there is not much I can tell you to help with this puzzle outside of giving you the answer, focus on the panels that look the same as the other ones. These would be the corner pieces.

- Try it yourself by using your stylus to hop along the islands.
- You'll see that by heading south from the start and then hopping east, you can hit every island in the top portion.
- Once you reach the middle, however, you'll run into some problems. Think where you can put a bridge in the middle portion to let you hit every island in the bottom half.
- Put a bridge between the house with the purple roof and the grey light house and you've got it.

Puzzle #39 - One-Line Puzzle #2
- This puzzle is solved the exact same way as the previous one-line puzzle, despite the fact that the pictures are more complex. Start by tracing each picture and seeing if you can eliminate any of the ones that can be drawn with one line.
- To echo my previous hint which echoed a hint from the game: "If your pen is entering a point formed by an even number of lines, you will always be able to leave the point via another line."
- The answer is the hat in the top right corner.

Puzzle #40 - How Old is Dad?
- It sounds confusing, but what the dad is saying is actually really simple. Read the question a couple of times to see if you get it.
- Let's look at things backwards. If you take half of the father's age, you'll end up with his son's age, which is 22.
- So essentially, all that his dad is really saying is that he is twice as old as his son.
- The Dad is 44.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- Do you see that pillar in the back with a block etched out? Examine that block for another hidden puzzle.
Puzzle #101 - Splitting it Up
- This is a pretty simple puzzle. Obviously all of the corner pieces of the cube will have more than one side painted, since three of their faces are exposed.
- Likewise, every piece adjacent to a corner piece will have two sides painted.
- This leaves only the pieces in the dead center which will only have one side painted.
- Since there are six sides to a cube, the answer is six.
- Head right for a new area and three more hint coins
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the patch of moss directly below the center of the old man's feet.
- Tap the chimney of the house in the middle
- Tap the window on the ceiling of the house with the blue roof.
- Talk to Jarvis to update your mysteries and objectives. Once you've done that, head south and talk to Gerard for the next puzzle.
Puzzle #41 - Spare Change
- This puzzle is an awful lot of work for just 10 Picarats. I won't blame you for skipping to the solution on this one.
- The best way to solve this is by shading in all of the areas that would be on the top end of the rope once it's straightened. Then mark a tally every time you come across a coin.
- The answer is 9 coins.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
- Don't forget to grab all the hint coins in this area before heading out.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the lamp above the blue door
- Tap around the rock and the bottom middle of the screen near the crack.
- Tap the rock directly north of the second hint coin you just found.
- You should now have all of the gizmos required to build your robot dog.
- Go to Layton's case and select gizmos. Then tap all of the gizmos at the bottom to automatically assemble them, making your very own robot dog.
- This will unlock one of Layton's challenges which can be accessed through the bonuses option at the title screen. We'll get to those later though.
- Your robot dog will also bark in the area of hidden puzzles and hint coins.
- For now though, talk to Gerard again for another puzzle.
Puzzle #42 - The Camera and the Case
- Here are the facts you need to know. The camera and the case together cost 310, the camera alone costs 300 + the cost of the case, and we're trying to figure out how much the case alone costs.
- So let's make a simple equation with the cost of the case being x. 300 + x + x = 310.
- That simplifies to 2x = 10, which makes x = 5.
- You paid the clerk $100, so if the case costs $5, you should get $95 back.
- Reward: 50 Picarats
- Head south and talk to Zappone who will send you to talk to Crouton.
- Head south back to the plaza to initiate a conversation with Deke.
- He'll tell you that in order to find everything that St Mystere has to offer, you can't just go from point A to point B. Let's take his advice and head back into the clocktower and talk to Lucy. It seems she thought of a puzzle since you last saw her 2 seconds ago.
Puzzle #43 - The Three Umbrellas
- Look carefully at what the question is asking you.
- Let's simplify the question. There are three umbrellas sitting in a stand. What are the chances that only two of the three owners wind up with their own umbrella?
- If two owners end up with their umbrella, that leaves only one owner and one umbrella left which means the last umbrella must be hers.
- Therefore the answer is 0%
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Head south back to the plaza and then enter the blue door. Talk to Rodney twice for the next puzzle.
Puzzle #44 - Stamp Stumper
- Start with the stamps that need to be put together. For example, 90 can only go with 10 which makes it the only two square shape that you can use.
- The 70 at the bottom can only be grouped with the nearby 20 and 10, forming a small L shape.
- The 80 on the left can only be grouped with the two 10s above and below it, forming a three block straight line.
- The 10 in the top left corner forms a four block square with the 20, 20, and 50.
- The 30 under the 50 forms a four block inverted T shape with the 30, 30, and 10.
- The 10 at the top above the thirty is grouped with the 60, 20, and 10.
- The 10 in the bottom right is grouped with the 30, 40, and 20 in a four block backwards L shape.

Puzzle #45 - Puzzled Aliens
- Think of what kind of objects you use on paper that would look like you were opening a hole to someone viewing you from overhead.
- Holes are generally circular. What object do you use to create circles on paper?
- That's right, a compass.

- Head east to the plaza and start poking around for hint coins. There are actually four of them in this section

- Tap the window at the top of the clock tower
- Tap the right most barrel on the left side of the screen.
- Tap the top of the house with the white door.

- Talk to Gerard who will ask you to find something he dropped by the park. Let's head there now by heading west and then north.

Puzzle #46 - The Biggest Star
- The star that you want to make will use the biggest stars in the sky.
- It will also have its point facing downwards.
- Apparently, the tree is also considered as being in space. This means that you will use the four big stars in the sky and the tree to create your five pointed star.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Deke tells us to ask about Gerard's wristwatch at the inn, so let's head there now. Go south, east, and south again to arrive at the entrance.
- Before heading into the inn though, check around for hint coins.

- Tap the chimney of the inn
- Tap the small sign board near the entrance to the inn
- Tap the bin near the door to the house on the right side.
- Tap the Inn sign for another hidden puzzle.
Puzzle #113 - The Pet Hotel
- This puzzle is pretty easy. You only have room for three letters, so only think of animals that are spelt with three letters.
- The only ones that come to my head are dog and cat. You can't make the word dog just by moving two matches.
- But you can make the word "cat"by simply moving the two matches that make up the right side of the number 0 and using them to make the 9 into an A and the 7 into a T.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- Head inside the inn and talk to Beatrice to get Gerard's wristwatch. Return to Gerard and talk to him to give it back. He'll be so overjoyed that he'll give you -you guessed it -another puzzle.
Puzzle #47 - On the Run
- Trace out possible paths for the bandit and write down on a piece of paper the ones that he will be able to escape through.
- Eventually you should come across one exit that is giving you problems. Try the other exits first and then come back to it to make sure that it's the correct answer.
- The answer is B.

- Don't think too hard about this one. All the information you need is right in front of you. Read the question a couple of times.
- Continue on from the example. 5 mice can be caught in 5 minutes by 5 cats. By that logic, 10 mice can be caught in 10 minutes by 5 cats. See where I'm going with this?
- The answer is 5 cats.

Puzzle #49 - 1,000 Times
- Obviously you aren't going to make a word with the letter you give, so think of letters that represent something.
- Letters represent units of measurement, don't they?
- Think of a unit of measurement that uses two of the same letter.
- A meter, represented by m, is 1,000 times the size of a millimeter, represented by mm.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Proceed north for more hint coins.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the leftmost window on the left side at the back.
- Tap the balcony window on the right side
- Tap the large rock in front of the cafe door.

Puzzle #50 - OTTF?
- Don't think about mixing up the cards in an attempt to spell something. The truth is the cards are in a very specific order already.
- Say each letter rhythmically, like if you were counting something and see if it gets your mind going.
- How many cards are there? Ten. What's the last letter?
- The letters represent the numbers one to ten, so the fifth letter would be F, for five.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Enter the door to head into the cafe. As you probably guessed, there are more hint coins here.

- Tap the top corner on the cupboard to your left.

Puzzle #51 - The Town Barbers
- Note that everyone in the town gets their hair cut by one of these two stylists.
- This includes the stylists themselves
- Assuming that they don't cut their own hair, this would mean that the one who did stylist A's hair cut was stylist B and vice versa.
- Therefore, A would be the correct answer.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
- Before you leave the cafe, check the bottle in the bottom right for a hidden puzzle
Puzzle #106 - How Many Glasses?
- You probably already know which cups you'd have to switch, but the trick here is how many cups do you have to pick up?
- There is more than one way to change the order of the cups. If you're second guessing yourself, your idea is probably wrong.
- You would take the contents of the second cup and pour it into the fifth, meaning you only have to pick up one cup.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- Head out of the cafe and travel towards the market, which would be the left fork in the road. You'll find some more hint coins here.

- This time, since only one person is lying, go down the list of statements one by one and see if you can eliminate any choices.
- If one statement confirms another statement as a lie, then you can eliminate that statement since only one brother is lying.

Puzzle #54 - Monster!
- There are many monstrous looking objects in this picture, but the one you're looking for is humongous and only has one eye showing.
- This puzzle is actually very similar to the previous puzzle that had you finding the old man's beloved within the picture.
- Ignore all of the houses and trees and you'll find your monster.
- Stab the moon to effectively slay this puzzle.

Puzzle #52 - Find a Star
- The only hints I can give you for this one would simply be ones leading your eyes closer to the area where the star is. Just search long and hard until you start to see it.
- It's on the left side.
- Upper left hand side to be more precise
- The star is tilted about 45 degrees to the right.
- Starting from the top left corner, go down until you see a gray quadrilateral. Start at the top right corner of that shape and continue along the line leading to the right until you reach the tip of the black pentagon. Follow the line going upwards until you reach the end of the white triangle. You should be able to finish it up from there.

- Rather than look for the one that fits, rule out all of the ones that don't.
- We can eliminate A because all three lines must have a starting point coming out from the same side.
- We can eliminate D because the blue line has to be in between the two red lines.
- Now that we're left with just two triangles, rotate them in your mind and see which one fits.
- The answer is C.

- Obviously the end result is going to be a 3x5 rectangle, so keep those dimensions in mind as you look for where you have to cut.
- Think of the missing square on the left side of diagram one as a lock. You need to make a key that fits in order to complete the rectangle.
- From the top left, go down one square, cut across two squares, and then down one square.

- He'll tell you to turn in for the night, so with that in mind, head outside to trigger a cutscene.

Puzzle #56 - The Lazy Guard
- The sample path that they give you is there to mislead you. The correct route for the guard to take will look nothing like that.
- The rules don't say that you can't visit the same room more than once. You will have to visit one of the rooms twice to solve this puzzle.
- Think in diagonals.
- Starting from the entrance, head diagonally to the bottom right corner, then head straight up, the diagonally to the exit.
- Reward: 30 Picarats

Puzzle #57 - Cut Which One?
- Every ring with the exception of the one you're looking to cut should only have a connection with no more than two rings.
- Since F is only connected to ring E and ring C is only connected to rings E and B, we can rule them out. Since F is only connected to one ring, it also means it's one of the end rings.
- If F is the end ring on one side, that means that A is the end ring on the other. This narrows our search down to only B or D, since those are the two rings connected to A.
- The answer is D.

Puzzle #59 - The Longest Path
- This puzzle is tricky because there's no real way to confirm whether your guess is the longest or not. To help you out, know that the correct answer leaves only 7 small roads untraveled.
- You will make an S-Shape in the middle of the map.
- The S-Shape will be made from the bottom up.
- Head left from the start all the way to the end. Then head down and turn right at the second intersection from the bottom. Go east until you reach the second interection from the right and then head north. Go west at the next intersection, and then north, then east all the way to the end. Head south to the end and then west to the exit.
- Reward: 50 Picarats
- Before we see Chemley to complete our mission objective, let's do some hint coin hunting. Head into the general store through the blue door.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the second bottle from the left on the shelf in the room behind the counter.
- Exit the general store and head north.
- Tap around the bush at the bottom left of the screen.
- Head north to the Manor entrance.

Puzzle #60 - Weighing Cats
- Don't bother trying to find out how much one color of cat weighs compared to other colors. There's an easier way to solve this.
- Example 2 has the same number of red cats as the setup that we're trying to solve. Therefore we can substitute the three red cats out for two blacks and one white.
- This leaves us with six black cats and one white on one side, and four whites and one black on the other.
- Four whites equals five blacks, which makes the right side of the scale become six blacks.
- Six blacks plus one white is heavier than just six blacks, so the scale will tip to the left.

- Tap the third step from the bottom
- Head up the stairs to be chewed out by Inspector Chemley.

Puzzle #61 - Pin Board Shapes
- The board is 7x7, which means that there are 49 pins in total on the board. If you use 17 to make the cross, and 16 pins are inside the cross, then that leaves 16 pins that are outside the cross. Remember this when making your cross.
- In order to have enough room to make the cross, it's going to have to go diagonally. Meaning it'll look more like an X than a cross.
- The cross is going to be three pegs wide.
- Every third peg from an edge will connect to a third peg on the adjacent side. Then it will dip down one peg and connect to the third peg from the other edge. Follow this pattern until the cross is complete.

Puzzle #103 - Wood Cutouts
- There are 32 squares in total, which means each piece will be made of 8 blocks.
- Remember that the pieces cannot be mirrors of each other, so simply drawing a cross through the middle of the shape won't work.
- The shape you're looking to create is like that of a staple.
- Start at the center of the shape, move one square over, and make a line that goes one square from the end of the other side. Then just make your two staple shapes and the other two will be created as a result.

Puzzle #62 - Mysterious Note
- Ever notice how sometimes numbers can look like letters when you look at them upside down?
- Hold your DS upside down and you'll see a message that reads "Bill is the boss, he sells oil."

Puzzle #63 - How Old is Mom?
- First you're going to have to find the age difference between the two, so get out a piece of paper and try to find two numbers that satisfy the puzzle's requirements.
- The difference between the age of the mom and dad is very small.
- If the mom is one and the dad is two, two times one is two, and two times 1.5 is three.
- Therefore, the difference in their ages is one year, making the mother 43.
- Reward: 20 Picarats
- We're finally done with the manor and can move on to chapter 5. Head outside all the way to the Manor Border and speak to Ramon.
Chapter Five - The Hunt Begins
- Even though you just came from there, head back to the manor and speak with Matthew at the Manor Foyer.
- He will tell you to find Ingrid, so with that, head outside and continue south until you reach the town.
- Ingrid will be the small elderly woman on Manor Road. Speak with her and she'll tell you to go back to the manor!
- Backtrack once again to the manor, speaking with Matthew on the way. Once you enter the manor, head all the way up to Dahlia's room and examine the books on desk.
- After viewing the journal, once again leave the manor and speak with Ingrid at the entrance.
- Before we meet up with Zappone, let's take on a puzzle to give us a break from all of this traveling.
- Head to the plaza and enter the blue door where you'll find a hint coin and Rodney, who holds your next puzzle

Puzzle #64 - Odd Equations
- Obviously traditional mathematics doesn't apply here, so try to think of a situation where 8 plus 6 would equal 2.
- Negative numbers would fall under traditional mathematics, so don't think along those lines.
- For 8 + 6 to equal 2, the sum would have to reset to zero once it reached twelve. Can you think of a similar situation?
- If it was 8 o' clock and a friend told you there was a movie playing in six hours, what time would you meet him at the theater?
- The answer is 1.

Puzzle #65 - What's E?
- We have to find out what the numbers assigned to each letter mean, so look at the letters one at a time to find a correlation.
- A is two, so what about section A on the diagram could possibly correspond to the number 2.
- That's right, A is made up of two lines. Don't jump to conclusions though! Check this with the other letters.
- You see a problem don't you? D is made up of three lines, yet its value is 4. This must mean that the numbers correspond to the number of sections that are adjacent to each letter.
- Therefore, E is 5.

Puzzle #66 - Birthday Girl
- This is a fairly simple puzzle, but the way it'
- Let's assume that the year is 2000. At some point in 1999, the woman was 19. She is now 21.
- This means that sometime during 1999, she must have turned 20. This puts her birthday either at January 1st or January 2nd
- Since the clue states that she was still 19 on New Year's Day last year, that means her birthday must be January 2nd.
- Reward: 60 Picarats
- Talk to Lucy once again for your next puzzle.
Puzzle #67 - The Chocolate Code
- There are three important things to take note of in this puzzle. The first is that there are bite marks on nearly all of the pieces of chocolate except the blank one, and that they are located on different areas of the chocolate
- The text of the puzzle calls your girlfriend a "gadget-loving"girlfriend. They wouldn't mention this if it wasn't important. Think technology when you try to crack the code.
- The blank space in between the letters indicates a space. So you have two words, one made of four letters, the second of two.
- How would a gadget lover send messages to their boyfriend typically?
- If you guessed by text messaging, you'd be right. Look at your keyboard, and then look at the code once again. Pay attention to the bite marks.
- By going to each letter in the code and going in the direction of the bite marks, you'll uncover the code "Text Me".
- Reward: 40 Picarats
- Head north, but before talking to Zappone, be on the look out for a hint coin.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the trash bin on the right side.
- Now talk to Zappone to complete your objective. Then head up the stairs to your right and pick up the piece of paper on the ground for another journal entry.

- Tap the dip on the first roof on your left.
- Talk to Gerard twice for your next puzzle.
Puzzle #68 - Find the Pentagons
- Don't enter an answer until you're absolutely sure that you counted all of them. Look for a variety of different sizes of pentagons.
- The first and most obvious set would be the small pentagons that use up the whole square and one triangle.
- Try to find pentagons where you can attach more than one triangle to the square.
- There are three sizes of pentagons you can find, and each pentagon will appear four times. This means that there are 12 pentagons.
- Reward: 40 Picarats
- Now enter the blue door and talk to Proscuitto.
Puzzle #69 - Chocolate Puzzle
- Try it out yourself first. Use your stylus to try and find a way to separate the individual pieces of chocolate in the least amount of breaks.
- After a few attempts, you should realize the trick behind this puzzle.
- No matter how you end up breaking up the chocolate, you will always end up with 29 breaks.
- Reward: 30 Picarats
- Leave the house and proceed north to find yet another hint coin.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the middle of the left most roof where the section of bricks are.
- Head left and you'll automatically be forced into a puzzle.
Puzzle #70 - The Shattered Vase
- This is probably the easiest puzzle in the game, so you shouldn't need my help. Just move the pieces of the vase into the silhouette.
- There is one piece you don't have to use.
- Reward: 10 Picarats
- After you finish, look out for another hint coin in the area.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the blue and white striped umbrella.
- Then talk to Giuseppe.
Puzzle #71 - Sausage Thief
- Another one of these. Once again, take out a piece of paper and go down the list of statements, assuming each one is telling the truth one at a time.
- If A is telling the truth, then that means C must be telling the truth as well. Since only one person is telling the truth, it can't be A. Same thing with B.
- That leaves only C and D. If we assume C is telling the truth, we get inconclusive statements all around.
- If we assume that D is telling the truth, it tells us that he didn't eat the sausage, that B didn't eat the sausage because A must be lying, and that C must've ate the sausage since he's lying.
- Therefore, since D is the only statement that checks out with sound reasoning, the answer is C.

- Pick up the large and conspicuous piece of trash on the ground. Talk to Archibald to automatically travel to his house. You'll find several hint coins here.

- Tap the drawer of the stand to the left of Archibald

- In order for a rope to make a knot, the rope would have to make a loop, and then one end of the rope has to go over one side of the loop and under the other.
- Knowing the above, we can eliminate B because no rope goes through the loop.

Puzzle #72 - The Sound of Silence
- Even though the words are all related to music, this puzzle doesn't have anything to do with music.
- Try to find something else all of the words have in common except for one.
- Pronounce each of the words out loud and see if that doesn't help you find a common thread.
- The key here is that all of the words except for one have a silent letter in their pronunciation. Can you find which one it is?
- That's right, the answer is "Rest".

Puzzle #73 - How Many Squares
- Let's get the obvious ones out of the way first. There are five small squares making up the north, south, east, west, and center squares.
- Look at the shape from different perspectives to find more squares.
- The squares come in three sizes: small, medium, and large.
- 5 small squares, plus 4 medium squares, plus two big squares = 11 squares.

Puzzle #109 - Laziest Man on Earth
- You're going to have to stretch your imagination for this one. His fishing rod can even reach inside the cupboard on the left side. The answer to this puzzle isn't in the limitations of his tools.
- Imagine you're watching TV from your sofa at your house. You lose the remote. Where is one of the first places you'd look for it?
- The answer is underneath the seat.

- Let's now head back to the market. Leave this room, head north, and make a left at the fork. Once there, talk to Agnes.
Puzzle #74 - A Broken Window
- This one is actually solved a little bit differently than previous puzzles of this type since we know that the one who did it is lying, and that more than one may be lying as well.
- Well if the one who did it is lying, B can't be the criminal because he admitted he did it. His admission would be a lie.
- Since we know that B didn't do it, we know that D is telling the truth.
- That leaves us with A and C. Now let's use our usual method and assume that each one is telling the truth.
- For A to be telling the truth, it would mean that C is telling the truth as well. They can't all be telling the truth since the one who broke the window must be lying. Therefore, the answer is A.

Puzzle #75 - The Wire Cube
- First try it out for yourself. Draw a cube with rules similar to the one line puzzle. Draw as much as you can with one line, and then fill the rest in with individual lines.
- If that doesn't help you, try looking at it mathematically. There are eight corners in a cube, each with three lines coming out of them. This means that no matter what you do, you must have an endpoint of a piece of wire touching each corner.
- Every wire will have two ends, so eight divided by two equals four. Therefore, the answer is four wires.

- Head north now and you'll find yourself in a completely new area. Since we're in a new area, we might as well look around for more hint coins.

- Rather than thinking about drawing cards, think about the ordering of the cards. Ignoring the different suits, how many different ways can you arrange four aces and a joker?
- You can order the cards in five different ways. Only one of these arrangements has the joker coming after the four aces.
- Therefore, the answer is 20%.

Puzzle #117 - Painting a Cube
- If none of the sides that are touching can have the same color, then that means that only opposite sides of the cube can be painted the same color.

Puzzle #76 - A Tile Square
- This is a rather confusing puzzle due to the wording, so pay close attention to what it is the puzzle is asking for.
- You have three measurements here: Length, width, and height. Since you're only looking to make a square and not a cube, you're only going to need two of them.
- To make a square using the length and width, you'd have to find the lowest common multiple of 10 and 12, which would be 60. This would make the shape a 5x6 rectangle, so that won't work.
- Therefore, you're going to have to stack the tiles on top of each other. 0.5 x 20 = 10.
- The answer is twenty tiles.

Puzzle #77 - Which Job?
- Ah, this is a classic puzzle. This problem is easily manageable if you get out a piece of paper and make a table.
- Go through the amount of money you would get working at each company in 6 month intervals. After six months of work at company B, you would have 50,000 dollars.
- After a year of work at company A you would have 100,000, but at company B you would have 105,000 due to your 5,000 dollar raise.
- Do the calculation of one more year and you should see the trend here.
- You will always have 5,000 dollars more at the end of the year working at Company B as opposed to company A.
- Therefore, the answer is B.

- Since there are only four sides, and you have five queens, one is going to have to go in the center.
- There are multiple ways to solve this puzzle, but no matter which one you find, there can not be any queens in the corner squares.
- Place one queen in the middle square
- The rest is the same as the first puzzle. Starting on the top row, place a queen on the second square from the left.
- On the fifth column, place a queen on the second square from the top.
- On the bottom row, place a queen on the second square from the right.
- On the first column, place a queen on the second square from the bottom.

- This time the puzzle is a little different. You must make it so that your three queens are positioned so that no other piece can be placed on the board.

- Look at the times when both and you and your girlfriend drove first. You drove 180 miles and she drove 150. That's a 30 mile difference.
- Now look at the times when you drove the remainder. You drove however much distance was left after 150 miles while your girlfriend drove however much distance was left after 180. That means you drove another 30 miles more
- Therefore, the answer is 60 miles.

Puzzle #86 - Squares and Circles
- Try rotating the shapes in the diagram and see if it gives you any ideas. The squares will rotate along the circles that their corners touch.
- If you rotate the brown square 45 degrees, you'll see that the corners touch the middle of each side of the blue square. This means that the blue square is twice as large as the brown square
- You'll also notice that by rotating the brown square, that the red square's corners also bisect the sides of the brown square.
- Therefore, the blue square is four times larger than the red square.

Puzzle #115 - Odd Box Out
- Take out a piece of paper and draw a blank cube to start. The game tells you to draw an unfolded cube, but I personally found it easier just to draw a 3D cube.
- Go through the choices and chart out the designs on your cube. Going by what A and C tell us, the star touches the sun, the square, the heart, and the diamond.
- Continue making your cube until you come across an inconsistency. Hone in on the choice that is causing the inconsistency and you'll solve the puzzle.
- The answer is D.

- Head east to arrive at the ferris wheel. Once again, there are six more hint coins in this area.
- Hint Coins:
- Tap the right most box in the stall on the left.
- Tap the middle of the base of the ferris wheel

- Examine the ferris wheel for a new puzzle.
Puzzle #87 - Ferris Wheel Riddle
- Draw a table if you have to for this one. Make one column the amount of time that has elapsed, and the other column the number of people on the ride.
- Right when the ride opens, at 0 minutes, two people are let on the ride. Those two stay on until ten minutes later when they get off and two more people get on.
- You could continue like this all the way to 30 minutes, but remember that if the ferris wheel stops promptly at 10:30, then that means that everyone has to be off by 10:30.
- It would take 10 minutes to empty a fully loaded ferris wheel.
- Therefore, your table should only go up to 20 minutes. In twenty minutes, the maximum number of people who could ride the ferris wheel is 42.

Puzzle #116 - The Largest Total
- Yes, the answer to this puzzle is as obvious as you think it is.
- To get the highest value, you would use the highest number that you can in the middle square.

- Walk back to the ferris wheel to trigger an important cutscene.
- Once you regain control, enter the hole that the rampaging ferris wheel opened up for you. Yes, you'll find hint coins even down here.

Puzzle #91 - Pattern Matching
- The pattern is pretty easy to decipher, but what makes this puzzle tricky is that the pieces you have to choose from are rotated and/or flipped.
- At the very least, we know that the top and bottom pieces must be an X and a square. So that eliminates A and D.
- Upon careful observation, it appears that B and C have the same pattern, but they are mirrors of each other. Find the one that fits into the pattern, without having to flip it.
- The answer is B.

- It's time for some backtracking again.
- Head all the way out of the park and back into town. Once you get there, chapter 8 will start.
Chapter Eight - The Shadowy Intruder
- Head back into the sewers and take the right fork to talk to Sylvain for your next puzzle.
Puzzle #92 - Wash Up
- Follow the path of the water from the source. Eventually you'll come to a three way split. One of the valves you have to open will be one of these, so check each path for the route that requires the least amount of valves to be opened.
- Take the north valve at this first split
- After opening that first valve, you only have to open one more.
- Coming from the pan of water, go up and open the first valve to your left. This should give you two opened valves.

- Now let's follow our objective and head to the inn.
- Once there, talk to Beatrice. Once the conversations end, walk out of the inn, head north, east, and north to speak with Ramon for your next puzzle.
Puzzle #93 - Over the River
- Yay, another one of these kinds of puzzles. This time you only have to deal with a wolf, a sheep, and a piece of lettuce.
- There is only one move you can make at the start, so put the sheep on the raft and send him off.
- Head back alone, pick up the cabbage, and return with the sheep
- Take the wolf, drop him off, and return alone.
- Take the sheep and drop him off and you're done. Piece of cake.

- If you have been following this walkthrough, you should now have all of the pieces needed to complete the painting.
- Open up your trunk and select painting to do that now.
- Once you finish, you'll unlock another one of Layton's challenges.
- For now though, let's confront inspector Chemley. Head back to the manor.
- During the telling scene, you will be asked what Chemley's favorite food is. There is no penalty for guessing wrong, but the correct answer is "Fresh sweet-potato fritters."
- The next question will ask when the drawbridge shut down. The answer is "During our search for Claudia". Once the scene ends, so too will the chapter, and the mystery of Chemley.

- Since you have a 4x4 bar of chocolate, each piece is going to consist of four pieces.
- The shape you're looking for here is an L-shape.
- Remember that each almond must be in a different location. There is more than one way to solve this, but only one way if you need to have the almonds in different locations.

- This puzzle is trying to fool by showing you information you don't need to know. Focus on what the question is asking.
- It's not asking what the probability of throwing a three four times in a row is, so don't guess 1296.
- The probability of rolling a three is 1/6. Therefore the answer is six.

- Head north to begin the final chapter.
Chapter Nine - The Tower's Secret
- Head north to arrive at the tower entrance. There will be one hint coin waiting for you here.

- The first thing to figure out is how long it takes to travel up one flight of stairs.
- You may think that you traveled four flights to get to the fourth floor, but think about it a little more and you'll see that you only climbed three stories
- 48 divided by 3 is 16, so it takes sixteen seconds to climb one story.
- There are four flights of stairs between the fourth floor and the eighth floor. 4 times 16 equals 64.
- The answer is 64.

- It's time for some deductive reasoning. As the game says in the first hint, if the club is to the immediate right of the heart, the heart cannot be the right most card.
- Continuing with what we know, if the joker and the diamond can't be next to the club, and the club must be to the right of the heart, then we know that the diamond and the joker must either be situated in the two spots on the left, or the club must be situated in the very last slot on the right.
- Since the spade can't be placed next to heart or joker, that means that the spade has to be the card on the right end.
- Add all of this together, play around with the order of the diamond and the joker, and you'll wind up with the order of Diamond, Joker, Heart, Club, Spade.

- The three digits on the top number starting from the left are 4, 1, and 2. You should be able to figure it out from here.
- The two possible answers are 41286 -7953 and 41268 -7935.

- You will use every single peg in your final answer.
- Connect the third peg from the top on the left most column to the second peg from the right in the top row. Connect that peg to the bottom peg of the right most column. Connect that peg to the second peg from the left in the bottom row. Then complete the square. This is the largest square you will have.
- There are three squares with one peg in the middle of them.
- Using the above clues, you should be able to find the rest of the squares.

- They are broken up into five categories, each which contain 3 puzzles, giving you the final 15 puzzles in the game.
Puzzle #121 - Diamond in the Flag
- The game recommends not using mathematics for this puzzle, but in my personal opinion it's simple enough to tackle with basic knowledge of geometry.
- All you really need to know is how to find the area of a rectangle and the area of a triangle.
- Divide the whole flag into four rectangles, thereby dividing the center parallelogram into four triangles as well.
- The height of each triangle is 20 and the base is 30. The formula for the area of a triangle is 1/2 the base times the height, so 15 * 20, which is 300.
- 300 x 4 triangles = 1200. This is the area of the diamond in the middle
- Now find the area of the whole flag, which is 80 * 120, which equals 9600.
- 9600/1200 = 1/8. Therefore the answer is 8.

Puzzle #122 - The Next Die
- The pattern in this puzzle has nothing to do with the actual numerical values of each individual die.
- Try looking at it from a different perspective. Imagine that each die is displaying three rows of dots. A three would have one dot on each row with a six having three dots on the first, three dots on the third, with no dots in the second.
- The only row that matters is the first row of dots.
- Look at how the dots group together in the top row.
- First there is one dot, then there is a space, then there are two dots together, then a space, then three dots...
- Continuing with this pattern, the next die would have to be C.
- Reward: 60 Picarats
Puzzle #123 - Tons of Triangles
- As you'll no doubt notice, the hard part here isn't so much finding the triangles, but rather keeping track of which ones you found so you dont count too many.
- There isn't much I can do to help you here outside of giving you the answer, but I will say that there are a lot of triangles, as the name implies.
- There are less than 20, but more than 10 triangles.
- The answer is 17.

Puzzle #124 - Missing Number
- Since there are 10 numbers, divide it up into five groups of two numbers. Notice any kind of semblance of a pattern among any of the numbers?
- Well there is 12 and 13 at the end, so let's assume that somehow these numbers are being incremented by 1.
- Look at the first five numbers again: 12, 31, and 1. Isn't there a scenario you can think of where adding one to 31 would cause the count to go back to 1?
- If we looked at it like a calendar, the pattern would read 12/31, 1/?, 1/2, 1/3.
- Therefore the answer is 1.
- Reward: 70 Picarats
Puzzle #125 - Rolling the Die
- If you have a die available to you, try rolling a 1 and 6 and seeing how the boy could possibly come up with 15 when he rolls a 1 and 20 when he rolls a 6.
- If you don't have a die in front of you, know that whenever you roll a number, the number you rolled and the number on the opposite side of the die will always add up to 7.
- The boy is counting up the number of visible dots on the die to arrive at his answer.
- There are 21 dots on a die in total, and if you rolled a three, that would mean that four dots would be invisible. 21 - 4 = 17.
- Therefore, the answer is 17.

- Since the left side is 5 feet tall, we know that the right side must be 5 feet tall as well, even if it isn't made up of a straight line. So label the three lines that make up the right side of the plot: x, y, and z. Also write that x + y + z = 5.
- Draw a line straight down from the top right of the plot of land. The bottom part of the plot to the left of this line is 5 ft, so label it so.
- Look at the line that is three feet. The line you just drew should have split it into two lines. Label these two lines A and B and write that A + B = 3.
- The line directly above A is equal to A and the line directly below B is equal to B as well. Label them A2 and B2.
- Now that we have labeled all of the lines, let's add them all up. 5 + 5 + 5 + (a + b) + (a2 + b2) + (x + y + z)
- That simplifies to 15 + 3 + 3 + 5 = 26.
- Therefore, the perimeter = 26 ft.

Puzzle #128 - Number Lock
- You can forget about 5 because anything times five will end in a 5 or 0, something that none of the other numbers can match unless they are paired with the 5.
- Likewise, you can leave out the seven as well since multiples of seven are only divisible by 1, 2, the number it is multiplied by, and seven.
- There are many answers, but no matter which one you stumble across, you'll find that the 2 goes in the center.
- The magic number that you're aiming for is 72.
- Here is the answer that the game gives you: First column: 3, 4, 6. Middle number: 2. Third Column: 1, 9, 8.

- With eight queens, it means you're going to have one queen on every row and every column of the board.
- There are 92 possible solutions to this puzzle, so no matter how impossible it seems, keep at it and you'll eventually come across one.
- You may recall that Too Many Queens #4 used this same puzzle, but they gave you three of the positions. Go back to that one to get a feel of where everything should go.
- Place queens in spaces A6, B8, C2, D4, E1, F7, G5, and H3 with A-H being the columns from left to right and 1-8 being the rows from bottom to top.

Puzzle #131 - Scenario #1
- The odd weight must be in the four weights that you didn't put on the scale.
- First let's find out whether the odd weight is heavier or lighter. Take off weight #5 and replace weights 6, 7, and 8 with weights 9, 10, and 11. Take off weight number four from the left side and weigh the two sides.
- If the scale stays level, then weight 12 is the answer.
- If the scale tips to the right it means that the odd weight is heavy. Likewise if it tips to the left, the odd weight is light. Make a note of this.
- Take off weights #1 and #11 and replace weight #2 with weight #9. You should now have weights 3 and 9 on one side, and weights 2 and 10 on the other. Activate the scale
- If the scale stays level, then #11 is the answer
- If the scale tips to the left and you found out that the odd weight is light, then #10 is your answer
- If the scale tips to the left and you found out that the odd weight is heavy, then #9 is your answer.
- If the scale tips to the right and you found out the the odd weight is light, then #9 is your answer
- If the scale tips to the right and you found out the the odd weight is heavy, then #10 is your answer.
Puzzle #131 - Scenario #2
- The odd weight must be in the eight weights that you put on the scale.
- Take off weights #5, #6, and #7.
- Take weights #3 and #4 and put them on the right side of the scale.
- Take weight #9 and put it on the left side of the scale.
- You should have the left side with weights #1, #2, and #9 and the right side with weights #8, #3, and #4.
- Weigh the scale again.
- If the scale is still tilted to the left it means either #8 is light or that #1 or #2 are heavy.
- If this is the case, take everything off the scale and weight 1 and 2 against each other. The one that is heavier is the answer. If they are equal in weight, #8 is the answer.
- If the scale is tilted to the right, it means that #3 or #4 is a heavy weight. Weigh them against each other and whichever one is heavier is the answer.
- If the scale becomes balanced, then #5, #6, or #7 must be lighter. Weigh #5 and #6 against each other and the one that is lighter is the answer. If the scale balances again, then #7 is the answer.

- Follow steps 1-6 in scenario #2.

Puzzle #133 - Finish the Equation
- No trick to this one, just mathematical trial and error.
- Think in fractions in this problem. Instead of actually dividing two numbers, simply leave it as a fraction. Then just subtract the two fractions. For example, (8 - 3 / 7) * 4 becomes (8/1 - 3/7) * 4.
- The right most number is an 8. That should help you narrow down your list of possible equations.
- The answer is (3 - 7 / 4) * 8 = 10.
- Reward: 70 Picarats
Puzzle #134 - Land Disputes
- If we have a 6x6 plot of land and we must divide it into four equal parts, that means that each division of land will have 9 squares.
- Look at the layout of the land. There is a spot where two houses are right next to each other and a spot where to wells are right next to each other. Draw a line separating them since one division of land can only have one house and one well.
- Draw a plus sign in the middle. In order to have four of the same shape, they're going to need to divide up those four center squares.
- Look at the two wells that are next to each other. The top most well belongs to the pink house and the bottom one belongs to the orange house. Draw borders so that the pink house can't get access to the bottom well and the orange house cant get access to the top well.
- The blue house can't be in the same territory as the pink house, so draw a small line at the top of the blue house.
- You should now have a basic idea of the shape that you need to replicate across all four territories. Every territory will have a T-shaped tetris block that doesn't close all the way. Try replicate this shape for each division of land. You should have four zig zagging lines coming out from the center.
- Look at the right side and count up the blocks that you know must be in that territory. There need to be nine squares in each division of land. There is only one way for that side to be divided up so that it has 9 squares and has access to the house and the well.
- You now have the shape that you will use to divide up the land. Simply replicate this shape four times and you're done.
- This is what the final product should look like.
