This walkthrough will provide steps in how to advance the storyline, where to find the hint coins, how to find hidden puzzles, and present the methods of solving them. The hints that are provided in this walkthrough will be similar to the hints presented in the game. The story and puzzles will be presented in separate sections and any story-related details will be kept to a minimum to avoid spoilers. Also, because of the their weekly releases, the downloadable puzzles will not be covered in this walkthrough.

1. You begin the game by viewing a fairly long cutscene. When the cutscene ends, you will start investigating. During the investigation, tap on the desk drawers. You will find Layton’s keys.
2. Move outside the office. After the dialogue, move to the right. You will be prompted to solve Puzzle 001.
3. When you solve the puzzle, you will be followed by some story cutscene. The cutscene will be followed by Puzzle 002. Solve the puzzle to move the story forward.
4. When you are in front of Schrader’s Home, tap on the person to talk to him. Then tap on the slot of the mailbox to find a hint coin.
5. More hint coins can be found at the upper part of the door frame, at the bottom of the street light, and in the top-right flower bed.
6. Move inside the building. In the next room you can find hint coins underneath the drawer and at the window to the very left.
7. Tap on the door and you will see Puzzle 003.
8. After solving the puzzle, you will see a long cutscene.
9. After the scene, you have to solve Puzzle 004. Solve the puzzle to end the prologue.

1. In the first room, you could find hint coins at the clothes hanger, the framed picture, and the small table leg.
2. Tap on the open suitcase to see Puzzle 005.
3. Tap on the teapot to see Puzzle 017.
4. Move to the right. You will find hint coins at the second ceiling light and atop the first wooden column.
5. Talk to the girl twice to find Puzzle 024.
6. Tap on the door at the end of the hallway to go to Car 4. Hint coins are found at the doorknob of the left door and at the right end of the horizontal strip next to that door.
7. Then enter the room to go into the Car 4 room.
8. Hint coins can be found underneath the left chair and under the right-most side of the right chair.
9. Tap on the pitcher to find Puzzle 023.
10. Go back to Car 4 and tap on the door at the end of the hallway.
11. When you reach Car 5, tap on the upper portion of the rug for a hint coin.
12. Tap on the waiter to find Puzzle 007.
13. After solving the puzzle, you will see a small cutscene. Then talk to Babette.
14. Afterwards, move to left door to find the kitchen. The Hamster mini-game will be added to the trunk. You will also get an apple for the hamster.
15. While you are still in the kitchen, you could find a hint coin in the left-most box on the floor and in one of the pots near the upper-right corner.
16. Go back to Car 5 and enter the right door.
17. A hint coin can be found on the horizontal strip between the second door and the stewardess.
18. Talk to the stewardess in Car 6 to find Puzzle 006.
19. Go through the door at the end of the hallway to find Car 7. There is a hint coin near the bottom right corner of the first door.
20. Go to the door at the end of the hallway to find the observation deck. You will find Puzzle 011.
21. While you are at the observation deck, you could find hint coin at the yellow ball on the left, and on the left-most leg on the second chair.
22. Tap on the crumpled piece of paper to find Puzzle 022.
23. Go back to Car 7 and talk to the short man. Then head back to the dining room to see Puzzle 010.
24. After solving the puzzle, talk to Chester to find Puzzle 008.
25. Head back to Car 4. After a small event, Tom’s shoe will be added to the trunk.
26. Talk to Inspector Chelmey to find Puzzle 020.
27. Go to Car 3 and talk to the short lady to find Puzzle 018.
28. Try to go to Car 2 and you will add the Camera mini-game to the trunk.
29. Try going to Car 2 again to find Puzzle 019.
30. Go back to the Car 5 dining room. Tap the right glass on the second table for Puzzle 009.
31. Talk to Chester and he will tell you about a couple in Car 4. That is where you should go.
32. Before going to Car 4, however, go to the kitchen. You will see Puzzle 014. After solving the puzzle, Tom’s cap will be added to the trunk.
33. Talk to the chef and you will find Puzzle 013.
34. Then go to Car 6 and enter Babette’s Room. You could find hint coins at the lamp and on the sofa’s armrest.
35. Tap on the vase of flowers to find Puzzle 016.
36. Tap on the food scraps near the bottom-right corner of the screen for a clue on Tom.
37. Then move to Car 7 to see a small cutscene. Go into the Car 7 Room to meet Granny Riddleton.
38. Go to the observation deck. Talk to the man you see there to find Puzzle 025.
39. Now go to Car 4 then go inside the Car 4 Room and talk to the couple. After giving their hint on Tom, talk to them again to find Puzzle 021. Solve the puzzle to receive a camera part.
40. Go to Car 3 and tap on the shoe on the floor. You will see Puzzle 015.
41. After solving the puzzle, go to Car 6 and talk to Chelmey.
42. Then go to Car 7 and talk to the steward twice to find Puzzle 012. Solve the puzzle to receive a camera part.
43. Go to the observation deck and talk to the girl.
44. Head back to Car 6 and enter the room. After some dialogue, you will get a house for your hamster.
45. You will be outside the train. You could find hint coins at the bottom of the middle window, the bottom of the stairs, and near the left-most wheel of the train.
46. Go to the left. After the short dialogue, talk to Hank to find Puzzle 026.
47. Solve the puzzle to get a round part for the camera. This will be the end of the chapter.

1. You will be at the station platform. You will find hint coins underneath the nearest door, in a small pebble close to the door, and on top of the lamppost.
2. Tap the poster at the right for Puzzle 027. Solve the puzzle to get a two-sided part for your camera.
3. Move to the right to get to the station plaza. Talk to Mr. Beluga.
4. Hint coins can be found on top of the red chimney, on top of the right-most bin, and in the broken brick on the left.
5. Move to the right to see the road to Dropstone. Hint coins are found on top of the left-most chimney, and in the window of the right-most house.
6. Speak to Wurtzer twice to see Puzzle 041
7. Move up to find the hill to Town Hall. You can find hint coins on top of the white umbrella, below the crate on the left, and in the potted plant to the right.
8. Tap on the produce cart to find Puzzle 028.
9. Tap on the green stand to the left for Puzzle 029. Solving the puzzle will get you a spring part for your camera.
10. Go left to find the wheat field. Talk to Kostya to find Puzzle 037.
11. Hint coins can be found in the largest mountain range in the background and in the small rock left of Kostya.
12. Go back to the hill to Town Hall and move right.
13. At the tree-lined path, hint coins could be found at the corner of the roof on the left-most house, the bottom of the fifth fence pole, and on top of the chimney.
14. Talk to Laurel for Puzzle 036. Solve the puzzle and you will find the Tea Set minigame with the Oasis Leaf ingredient.
15. Talk to Laurel again for Puzzle 032. Solve the puzzle to get a flower for your hamster.
16. Tap on the large tree above Laurel to find Puzzle 034. Solving the puzzle will get you a tree stump for your hamster.
17. Go back to the hill to Town Hall and move upwards. At the Town Hall plaza, you could find hint coins on top of the left pole, under the bench to the left, and in the barrel to the right.
18. Talk with Jacques and then talk with Albert. Albert will present you with Puzzle 053.
19. Look at the monument on the right for Puzzle 030.
20. Tap on the door of the Town Hall for Puzzle 047.
21. Head right to find the competition field. Hint coins are found at the white flag near the left, at the bottom of the fence near the right, and in the white bin to the right of the fence.
22. If you go back to the tree-lined path, talk to Lopez to find for Puzzle 052.
23. Go left from the Town Hall plaza to find the path to the farm. Hint coins are found at the circle-shaped sign, and underneath the sign next to the door. Talk to Parcelle.
24. Enter the door to the left and you will be in the general store. Hint coins can be found in the basket hanging from the ceiling, in the left container on the table, and the green bell hanging from the ceiling. Talk to Dorothea.
25. Tap on the cat sculpture to find Puzzle 051.
26. Go back to the path to the farm and go up to the farm entrance. You could find hint coins on the left-most chimney
27. Talk to Romie to find Puzzle 045.
28. Tap on the field to the left to find Puzzle 038. Solving the puzzle will get you a tiny part for your camera.
29. Go right to find Dropstone Pond. Hint coins can be found in the tree on the right, on top of the small chimney, and in the right-most point of the construction’s reflection.
30. Talk to Gabe to find Puzzle 033.
31. Go back to the farm entrance. Talk to Remy to find Puzzle 044.
32. Talk to Chelmey. Then go back to the path to the farm.
33. Talk to Balsa to find Puzzle 042. Solve the puzzle to get a screw part for the camera.
34. Talk to Balsa again to find Puzzle 043. Solve the puzzle to get a battery for the camera.
35. Go to the hill to Town Hall and talk to Lulu for Puzzle 046.
36. Go to the wheat field and talk to Parcelle for Puzzle 035.
37. Go to the road to Dropstone and talk to Madeline for Puzzle 040.
38. Now head to where the competition is. Talk to either Clabber or Oscar and you will get Puzzle 050.
39. Talk to Lopez and you will find Puzzle 039.
40. Try going left and you will be given Puzzle 048.
41. Go to the Town Hall plaza and talk to Jacques.
42. Go back to the general store. Talk to Dorothea for Puzzle 031.
43. Go to the hill to Town Hall and you will see a short cutscene.
44. Then go to the wheat field and talk to Kostya for Puzzle 054.
45. Go to the road to Dropstone and talk to Madeline for Puzzle 049.
46. Go left to the station plaza and talk to Ramie.
47. Then go to the station platform and talk to Sammy twice for Puzzle 055. Solve the puzzle and you will finish the chapter.

• Tip: Any hint coins you missed in chapter 1 can still be gathered here, with the exception of the ones from outside the train.

1. You will start the chapter in Layton’s room in the train.
2. Go right to Car 3 then go into Car 5 and talk to Chester.
3. Go into the kitchen and talk to Macaroon.
4. Go back to Car 5 and move through Cars 6 and 7.
5. Go to the observation deck and talk to Hank.
6. Go to Car 6 and talk to Conrad.
7. Enter the Car 4 room and talk to Marjorie.
8. Go to Car 3 and move down. You will find Puzzle 056. Solving the puzzle will get you a block for your hamster.
9. You will be in Car 2. Search the bottom horizontal strip next to the first door, and the third ceiling light to find hint coins.
10. Enter the door to find Puzzle 057.
11. While you are in the deluxe room, tap on top of the second pillow of the second sofa and on the table under the window for hint coins.
12. Leave the room to view a small cutscene. You will then be prompted to solve Puzzle 058. Solve the puzzle and you will get the lightbulb for your hamster.
13. After the small cutscene, you will be see Puzzle 059.
14. After solving the puzzle, move right.
