History
Avid was founded in 1987 by Bill Warner when he revealed a way to put videotape footage on hard disks. Pro Tools debuted in 1989 as the Sound Tools stereo recording & editing system. In 1991, the first official Pro Tools system was released featuring 4 voices and MIDI support. Since that first release, Pro Tools has undergone major upgrades and revisions. By the mid-90s, the editing tools had become a standard for picture editors in the film industry. In 1995 Avid purchased Digidesign assuring Avid’s position as leader in audio and video. According to Avid’s website, Pro Tools software is the number one choice of professionals in the field.http://www.avid.com/US/about-avid/corporate-profile
