  • Pro Tools is one of the audio recording industries most powerful digital audio workstations (DAW) used by professionals and hobbyists. The package is produced by Digidesign, a division of Avid Technology, and is used for recording and editing music productions, film scoring, film and television post productions. The current version is Pro Tools 8 and provides support for many different interfaces and audio technologies. The new release has an upgraded user interface, more virtual instruments and plug-ins along with new scoring and MIDI features.
  • History

    Pro Tools debuted in 1989 as the Sound Tools stereo recording & editing system. In 1991 the first official Pro Tools system was released, featuring 4 voices and MIDI support. Since that first release, Pro Tools has undergone major upgrades and revisions.
  • Packages

    1. HD: Pro Tools HD is the professional level package that includes both software and rack mountable hardware capable of handling audio input and output.
    2. LE: The LE localizes all processing to the CPU of the host computer while handling input and output via custom USB and Firewire interfaces.
    3. M-Powered: Uses specialized M-Audio USB Firewire, and PCI interfaces and is capable of nearly all of the functionality offered in Pro Tools LE.
