Prevacid

Prevacid is the brand name in the United States for lansoprazole. Prevacid is a potent inhibitor of acid secretion, used to prevent heartburn and treat conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease and ulcers.

Mechanism of Action

Prevacid inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme, which in the gastric parietal cell, normally pumps protons (H+) into the stomach. Consequently, the H+ are not pumped into the stomach, and thus, they are unable to combine with Cl- to make hydrochloric acid (HCl).Patient Health International: Acid Reflux Treatment
