Presidents Cup

In Golf, the Presidents Cup is a series of matches between a men's United States team and an international team. It is part of the PGA Tour. The golf Presidents Cup is held every other year in odd numbered years. It was held in even numbered years before 9/11. It is hosted alternately in the US and elsewhere in the world. The 2011 Presidents Cup will be hosted in Australia November 14 - 21.

The 2009 Presidents Cup in golf was in San Francisco, California. The US Team won in 2009.

The PGA Tour started the Presidents Cup in 1994 in order to create an international team match-play competition for non European golf champions. The first one was at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, US. The US team has won every Presidents Cup except for in 1998. US Presidents and international heads of state act as honorary chairmen of the President's Cup. In 1994 this was ex President Gerald Ford. George H.W. Bush, the senior ex Bush President, presided over the 1996 Cup. Australia's Prime Minister, John Howard was 1998's Honorary Chairman. The current US President at the time, Bill Clinton actually served in 2000. Thabo Mbeki, President of the Republic of South Africa, chaired the tournament in 2003. Then current President George W. Bush was the 2005 Honorary Chairman. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper filled the position in 2007. In 2009 there were three co-chairmen: US President Barack Obama, California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and San Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom.http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/presidentscup/past_results.html
