Presidential Polls 2008

    • All polls have a margin of error
    • Margins of error are based on various considerations of the polling agency
    • Several polls are designed to collect averages of individual polls
    • Several polling organizations only poll in particular states or regions
    • Electoral maps project which candidate will win the electoral votes from each state
    • Whoever wins the popular vote in a particular state wins all the electoral votes from that state
    • To win, a candidate must win 270 electoral votes
    • If each candidate wins 269 electoral votes, the House of Representatives decides who becomes president
    • A candidate can lose the popular vote but win the presidency via the electoral vote
