  • History

In an April 8, 2008 article published by The Advocate, Beatie told his story. He was born Tracy LaGondino, and had been a gay and lesbian activist in Hawaii. After falling in love with his current wife Nancy, Beatie underwent sex reassignment surgery, which included a breast reduction and testosterone treatments. Beatie, however, kept his female reproductive organs with the hopes of one day having a child.

The couple obtained sperm from a sperm bank, and was expecting a baby girl around July, 2008. Beatie says, he made the decision to become pregnant because of his wife's infertility. Nancy previously had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis, leaving her unable to conceive.
