Columbia Pictures has picked up the rights to adapt the comic book, Preacher with Sam Mendes signed on to direct the film.

The Preacher is the story of Rev. Jesse Custer who is possessed by Genesis, an entity created by the coupling of an angel and a demon. According to the story, God seems to have abandoned his heavenly responsibilities. With his supernatural powers, Custer teams with a former girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and sets out to find God and hold him accountable.THR: Columbia Signs on for Preacher Feature (October 29, 2008)
