Power Wheels is a Mattel-Fisher-Price battery-operated ride-on toy for children ages one to seven. They are miniature versions of many of the most popular vehicles, complete with working parts and radios. Each contain a battery that must be charged between each use to allow the vehicle to move. Fisher-Price has partnered with a number of other companies to make theme-specific toys, including Harley-Davidson, Barbie, Batman and John Deere. Although the company has faced a few product recalls, it is still the number one brand with more than 10 million units sold. http://www.fisher-price.com/us/powerwheels/consumerInfo.aspx
Power Wheels gives young children the chance to "feel the power" on rugged riding toys that can handle grass, concrete, and mudding terrain. Power Wheels are built with one of four different power systems. Depending on the system, the unit can vary in speed from one to five mph.http://www.fisher-price.com/us/powerwheels/consumerInfo.aspx

Safety
Parents are urged to monitor their children when they are using a Power Wheels ride-on toy. Children should not be left unattended due to the risk of injury.
Power Wheels Recalls
In June 2005, Fisher-Price recalled its Power Wheels Lightning PAC Scooters and MX3 Mini Bikes. The recall was brought on by safety concerns over the tires. If the tires are over-inflated, the plastic rim that lies within the wheel can break causing the tire to rupture. The potential rupture posed a risk of facial and hand injuries while inflating the tire.http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/2005/fisher_price_scooters.html
This isn't the first recall for these bikes. Back in 2003 the bikes were also recalled because there were concerns that the motor control circuits would malfunction causing the bike to continue to run after the power or throttle button was released.http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/2005/fisher_price_scooters.html
Storage
Power Wheels must be kept inside or under protective cover during snowy or rainy weather. When the vehicle is not in use for long periods of time, the battery must be charged at least once a month.http://service.mattel.com/us/faq_results.asp?contentidlist=42805&faq_id=42805 This practice will allow the vehicle to continue to work to its optimal performance when you're ready to take it out of storage.
