Powdered sugar is finely ground sugar used for making icings such as royal icing which is used in cake decorating. Powdered sugar-based icings are generally blended with butter or raw eggs, then extracts or food colorings are added to give extra flavor and color.

Powdered sugar can be made quickly at home with the use of a blender or food processor. Simply measure out the desired amount of powdered sugar in granulated sugar, and blend or process the sugar until it become fine and powdery.
