Pound Cake

Classic pound cake is made using one pound each of flour, sugar, butter, and eggs, which produces a rich dense cake. Modern day recipes are much lighter, and served with toppings such as chocolate, syrups or fruit. Pound cakes are sometimes served glazed.

Pound Cake Variations

Though dense and buttery, pound cake is quite plain, and it lends itself well to additions and variations. Some of the most popular ones are chocolate pound cake, lemon poppy seed pound cake, cream cheese or sour cream pound cake.
