  • Portland, Maine, originally called Machigonne by the natives, is the largest city in the state of Maine. It was settled in 1632, but did not become incorporated until 1786. It is located in Cumberland County, Maine, which also includes other such Maine, cities and towns as Brunswick, Cape Elizabeth, Freeport, South Portland and Yarmouth.

    Portland's Old Port District is a hub of activity and located at the mouth of Fore River and Casco Bay and the Arts District. Once there you can find an abundance of shops, restaurants and office locations, not to mention Cumberland County Civic Center, the sports and concert venue that has featured many well-known performers.

    The city seal of Portland is a Phoenix, with the words Resurgam, Latin for "I will rise again," written around it. This refers to four devastating fires that the area has experienced and the subsequent rebuilding and recovery that took place.
