  • Popeyes Inspiration

According to its official website, Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits was named after the character Popeye Doyle (played by Gene Hackman) from the move The French Connection. The brand has been associated with the cartoon Popeye, and has used the Popeye the Sailor cartoon character in marketing materials in the past. The restaurant chain has never had an apostrophe in its name.

    • One of the ad spots demonstrates the amount of preparation Popeyes puts into its food, with Annie noting, "I work my fanny off making this chicken perfect, and they practically give it away." Popeyes CMO Dick Lynch believes their spokesperson "should be as genuine as our food. Everyone has a relative or a good friend who will give it to them straight, and that’s what Annie is all about."Brand Week: "Chicken Queen" Tells It Straight (March 31, 2009)
