Pope Benedict XVI was tacked by a woman during Christmas Eve Mass on Thursday, December 24, 2009. The attack was captured on a video. At the time the pope was knocked down, he was walking in a procession down the isle at St. Peter's Basilica. The woman, wearing a red jacket, jumped over a wooden barrier and lunged at the 82-year old pope. The woman, who was described as mentally unstable, was arrested by the Vatican police.
