Pop Idol

  • Pop Idol was a reality show which ran on Britain's ITV network. It first aired on October 5, 2001, and lasted until December 20, 2003. Contestants competed for the chance at becoming the next pop singer and were judged by Simon Cowell, Pete Waterman, Nicki Chapman and Neil Fox. Each week, the contestant with the lowest number of viewer votes was eliminated.

    Since 2001, when Pop Idol first premiered, other shows such as American Idol, Latin American Idol, Canadian Idol and several other "Idol" shows have been developed. The Idol franchise was created by Simon Fuller.
