Polynesia

Polynesia is made up of more than a thousand islands in the south Pacific. It is located between Hawaii in the north, Easter Island in the east, and New Zealand in the west. It makes up the biggest section of Oceania, and is east of the other sections, Micronesia, and Melanesia.

History

From 3000 BC to 1000 BC Taiwanese tribes spread throughout the pacific islands. The Lapita people, from Taiwan/China began to settle Samoa, Fiji, and Tonga around 2000 years ago. From there they went to the Cook Islands, Tahiti, Tuamotus, and the Marquesas Islands. Between 300 and 500 AD, Easter Island was settled, and around 500 AD, Hawaii was also settled.

Geography

Polynesia is made up of many high islands (volcanic peaks), such as Tahiti and Bora Bora, and low islands (atolls), such as those found in the Tuamotu archipelago.
