The Pole Dance Doll is apparently a real children's toy that was featured on Gizmodo in August 2009. The package of the box shows a traditional girl's doll, holding a pole attached to a pedestal base. The package reads "Pole Dance" in a heart with the details listed nearby, "Style, Interesting, Music, Flash, Up and Down, Go Round and Round." http://gizmodo.com/5348675/pole-dancer-doll-doesnt-really-set-the-perfect-role-model
After the pictures of the Pole Dance Doll made their way onto the Internet (the original picture appeared to have been taken by a cell phone camera) controversy ensued over the doll. Unlike novelty 'stripper' dolls or pole dancing/desktop dolls for men, this particular doll was in childlike packaging and looked to be an authentic product intended for children. Bloggers debated over whether the pole dancing doll in question was a hoax or a real products. Others argued over what a doll such as this one could possibly be teaching young girls.
