Live on camera and at gunpoint, the European Poker Tournament was robbed. At 4:00 PM on March 6th, 2010, six men entered the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin armed with guns. With cameras broadcasting the event live to the public, the six men stole a yet to be disclosed amount of money from the high stakes poker tournament.
There are no reports of any injuries from the event. No one was harmed as the men entered the room, took the money and left.
Bluff Magazine, a popular online poker magazine has quoted the event organizers Pokerstars.net as saying, “an armed robbery by six men took place today at EPT Berlin. Nobody was seriously injured. We hope to re-start all events at 4pm local time. A police investigation is underway. The robbery occurred on the fourth day of the five day event. Popular Danish Poker player Teho Jorgensen battled Kevin Macphee for first place in day three. While the police are currently investigating the robbery, game organizers are left to sort out the mess. As shown in the live video, poker players quickly evacuated the gaming floor. Many tables were flipped and poker chips were thrown across the room as people ran for safety.
