Snowpoint City
- The Gym is in the middle of Snowpoint City, and the Temple is up north. You can't enter it now, so ignore it and head to the house in the upper left to find a woman who'll trade a Haunter for a Medicham. However, the Haunter is holding an Ever Stone, meaning it won't evolve when you trade.
- Check out the house in the upper right of town to find an old man who'll add a word you can use when being interviewed. You can also meet Maylene again, who'll clue you in that Fighting Pokemon are effective against Ice Pokemon.
- Head to the Gym, which is one of the most confusing puzzles of the game.
-
-
Snowpoint Gym
- This Gym is ridiculous - you have to break snowballs. The steps below are to get to the Gym leader.
- Start at the northeast corner where you start.
- Go right, then up through four snowballs.
- Head up to the trainer, then left, then down, then left through a snowball.
- Step left up the stairs, then up, then right through the snowball.
- Step right, then down, then left, then left up the stairs.
- Step down, then left up the stairs, then down, then right, then down to the starting snow.
- Start at the northeast corner, and step up through three snowballs.
- Step left to the trainer, then up, then right, then down, then right through a snowball.
- Step left, then down, then down, then left up the stairs.
- Step down, then right, then down to the snow.
- Start in the northwest corner, and step up through two snowballs.
- Step left, then down, then down, then left up the stairs.
- Step down, then left up the stairs, then left, then up, then right through four snowballs.
- Step left, then down, then right, then up until you reach the Gym leader.
- NOTE: There are three different types of flooring - Ice makes you move in the direction you were going, Snow stops you, and Snowballs stop you unless you're moving fast enough.
- Take some Super Potions and Revives before you head here - the puzzle resets if you exit the Gym. When you arrive, you'll fight Candice.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Candice
- Candice uses a level 40 Sneasel and Piloswine, a level 42 Abomasnow, and a level 44 Frosslass.
- All of Candice's Pokemon are dual types, with one always being Ice. Because of that, Fire type Pokemon are very effective against them, especially Abomasnow, which is dual Ice/Grass - because both of its types are weak against Fire attacks, it takes 4x damage from them.
- Sneasel is a dual Ice/Dark type, and takes 4x damage from Fighting type attacks. If you have Infernape with Mach Punch, you can defeat it in just two or three turns.
- Piloswine, a dual Ice/Ground type, is weak against Fighting, Steel, and Fire attacks. Again, Infernape or another Fire type Pokemon like Rapidash or Magmatar are great additions to your team here.
- Frosslass, being the highest level, will also be the hardest to beat - it's a dual Ice/Ghost type, and uses strong attacks like Psychic and Shadow Ball. It also knows Double Team, making it difficult to hit - attack with Steel, Dark, or Fire type attacks to bring it down quickly before it becomes impossible to hit.
- It is recommended to have level 45 or higher Pokemon in your party for this fight.
- After you defeat Candice, you'll obtain the Icicle Badge and TM72(Avalanche). It's time now to head to Lake Acuity and begin cleaning up there - you'll need to bring a Pokemon that knows Rock Climb.
- Head to Route 217, and use Rock Climb to climb the cliff and reach Lake Acuity. At the top of the hill, you can get a Reaper Cloth on the right side of the cliff; it's used to evolve Dusclops into Dusknoir. Just equip it to Dusclops and trade it.

- As soon as you arrive, you'll see Jupiter finishing up a battle with your rival. She'll inform you that their headquarters is in Veilstone, as well.
- Use Fly to travel to Veilstone. If you don't have a Pokemon with Fly, just travel there as best you can.
-
Veilstone City
- As soon as you arrive, head up the steps of the Galactic Building and talk to the guard. He'll run off, and Looker will appear and tell you that he has the key to the Hideout.
- After you finish talking to Looker, head to the storage area left of the Galactic Building(where you found the Fly HM) and press A on the gate to have Looker unlock it for you.
-
Galactic Hideout
- First things first - you need the key. There are two grunts and a scientist in the area. You can avoid the scientist by sticking close to the bottom wall as you move. Head to the right and head up the stairs to enter B1F. When you arrive, defeat the grunt there and climb the stairs to 1F.
- Here, head down and left to battle the grunt there. After the grunt is a set of warp panels - the right one leads to TM49(Snatch), and the left one continues your path. After you use the left one, use the warp panel in the room you arrive in and then go up the stairs you see to reach 2F.
- Ignore the stairs and head left to find a warp panel that leads to a room with stairs. Descend the stairs, battle the scientist, and head left to find an item ball containing the Dubious Disc. You can use this disc to upgrade Porygon2 to Porygon-Z through trade. When you finish, head down the stairs.
- Head left, defeat the grunt, and grab the item ball on the left on the other side of the boxes to obtain the Galactic Key. Open the shutters on the left and exit to Veilstone City.
-
Veilstone City II
- Heal at the Veilstone PC, then go right and up to find stairs leading to a spiked building. Enter the middle door and go to the middle room, then unlock the shutters. Head up the stairs it reveals, and in the next room, battle and defeat the two grunts - you can fight them 2 vs. 2 or individually.
- Head right until you find a TV room and use the two warp panels on the right to grab a Max Revive and a Green Shard, then use the warp panel in the TV room.
- You'll arrive in a room filled with Team Galactic members and Looker. Head to the left to see a cutscene of Cyrus explaining some plans, and Looker will mention that Cyrus is 27 years old. After Looker leaves, head left to find a warp panel.
- There are two beds and some stairs here - use the beds by pressing A next to them to rest your Pokemon. When you're ready, head up the stairs, and defeat the two grunts on the left in either a 2 vs. 2 battle or individually.
- Keep moving left to find three warp panels - use the one on the far left to find a room where Cyrus resides. Enter, and he'll talk to you before challenging you to a battle.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Cyrus
- Cyrus uses a level 44 Sneasel and Crobat, and a level 46 Honchkrow.
- Sneasel will be the first Pokemon Cyrus uses - it's a dual Dark/Ice type, which is weak against Steel, Fighting, Fire, and Bug type attacks. Since both Dark and Ice are weak against Fighting type attacks, Sneasel takes 4X damage from Fighting attacks - Mach Punch with Infernape is great to use.
- Crobat is a dual Poison/Flying type, and is weak against Psychic, Electric, and Ice attacks. If you have an Abomasnow or Alakazam, use them to great effectiveness against Crobat.
- Honchkrow is tough, and has some powerful attacks. It's a Dark/Flying dual type, which is weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock attacks. If you have a level 50 or higher Luxray, use it to defeat Honchkrow quickly - Cyrus likes to use restorative items when Honchkrow's HP drops too low.
- After you defeat Cyrus, he'll give you the Master Ball. You've got another battle coming up, so head back to the beds and sleep to restore your party's HP, then head to the Galactic Office and to the right to find a warp panel.
- Use the warp panel, then head down and to the right. From there, head up to find Saturn with the Legendary Trio - another battle ensues.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Commander Saturn
- Saturn uses a level 42 Golbat and Bronzor, and a level 44 Toxicroak.
- Use the same tactics as you did against Saturn when you fought him previously - he's three levels higher than he was, but he's using the same Pokemon, which are still weak against the same things.
- For a refresher, Golbat is weak against Electric, Ice, Psychic, and Rock attacks; Bronzor is weak against Fire and Ground attacks; and Toxicroak is weak against Ground, Flying, and Psychic attacks, taking 4X damage from Psychic attacks.
- Don't use Water attacks against Toxicroak - its Dry Skin ability heals it instead of hurting it when it's hit with one.
- After you defeat Saturn, he'll tell you to press the button. Interesting events occur, and Team Galactic(along with Cyrus) will await you at the top of Mt. Coronet. First things first, though - you need to be ready before heading there.
-
Mt. Coronet Checklist
- Make sure your party is level 50 or better - this ensures that none of the future battles are too difficult for you to get through.
- You'll only heal twice(once after the major boss battles) after you arrive, so bring as many restorative items as you can carry - Hyper Potions, Lemonades, and Revives, Max Revives, and status healing items are essential to your survival.
- You need at least one Rock, Electric, or Ice type Pokemon in your party. A lot of the battles ahead will be with Flying type Pokemon, which are weak against all three. This keeps you from losing too much HP when battling these types - a well-leveled Golem works wonders.
- You need Surf, Rock Smash, Strength, and Rock climb to get through the terrain - Bibarel is a good HM slave to use for getting through the area, even if he isn't the best in battles.
- If you don't want to waste your Master Ball on the upcoming Legendary Pokemon, bring 50 or more Ultra Balls with you to use instead. It will probably take that many.
- When you're prepared, head to Route 207 and follow it south and east to Mt. Coronet.
-
Mt. Coronet
- Don't bother trying to catch any Pokemon this time through - there's not that many new ones to consider anyway. You have a long trip ahead, and the supplies you have are about 80% of what you'll be using to heal yourself - don't waste it on encounters with wild Pokemon.
- This section is broken down further into floors to make it easier to understand, rather than have a list of directions to go to with no context provided.
-
2F to R Room
- Move north, then left and push the boulder with Strength to head past it. Go up the stairs and continue up until you find a bridge going to the left.
- Cross the bridge, then head down and then up to find another bridge leading right. Cross that bridge, then head down and left to find a cave entrance.
- Looker appears and tells you the path to the top of the mountain has been cleared, then gives you the Black Flute. Continue to the next room.
-
Outside to L Room
- Head right and up to find a cliff - use Rock Climb, then either take the grassy path or use Strength to move the boulder to continue.
- Head to the upper left area to find a cave entrance - enter, and go up. Use Rock Climb on the wall and defeat the Galactic grunts you encounter, then keep to the path until you reach a branch to the right that leads outside.
- Head outside, go to the right and then up to find two cliffs - use Rock Climb on the left one and keep heading right until you find another cave entrance. Enter to find the L-shaped room.
-
L Room to Pillar
- Move to the right to find stairs - go up the stairs, and defeat the grunts as you move down. Keep to the left and you'll find another room; once there, head up and defeat the grunt you encounter there.
- Keep heading up to reach the pillar. When you arrive, you'll see that there's two grunts blocking your path - it's a 2 vs. 2 battle, so heal if you need to. If you've been using Repels like you should, you shouldn't be in too bad a condition.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Galactic Grunts
- The grunts use a level 39 Croagunk, a level 41 Stunky and Glameow, and a level 43 Croagunk.
- Use Flying and Psychic attacks to defeat the Croagunks that come out, and Fighting against the Glameow. Use Ground attacks like Magnitude against Stunky, who's a Poison/Dark dual type.
- Be sure to heal after you defeat the grunts, because your next set of bosses are not easy if you start with low HP. Head further up to find Mars and Jupiter - your rival will join you to fight against them.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Commander Mars and Commander Jupiter
- Mars and Jupiter both use a level 44 Bronzor and Golbat; Mars uses a level 46 Purugly, and Jupiter uses a level 46 Skuntank.
- Your rival will still have the same Pokemon you've been fighting against, but he tends to lead with a Munchlax for some reason.
- Mars and Jupiter lead with a Bronzor - use Fire attacks to bring it down. Golbat is weak against your Rock, Ice, or Psychic Pokemon that you brought with you from the checklist.
- Purugly is weak against Fighting attacks, and Skuntank is weak against Ground attacks. Infernape is a good choice against Purugly, and Golem is great against Skuntank. Avoid using moves like Earthquake that hit all Pokemon on the field, as they will damage your rival's Pokemon, as well.
- After you defeat Mars and Jupiter, your rival will restore your Pokemon's health and leave. You'll see Cyrus summon Dialga and Palkia, just before getting pulled into another dimension.
- Cynthia also shows up and lets you know that the world is going to be destroyed unless you can help - you'll then be teleported to the Distortion World.
-
Distortion World
- Once you arrive, Cynthia leaves. You can return to the pillar in Mt. Coronet by heading back through the portal you just arrived through.
- Again, this section of the walkthrough is broken down into floors for easier comprehension. Be sure to have a Pokemon that can use Surf and Strength, which you should have if you just arrived from Mt. Coronet on your first playthrough.
-
4F
- Head down and a platform materializes. Cyrus will appear and speak to you, then leave. Go down, then right and up and another platform materializes.
- Take the new platform right and then down on the second row to make another platform appear.
- Get on the new platform and go right until you reach another platform that will take you to 5F.
-
6F - Second and Third Boulder
- Jump up and shove the boulder down to the bottom of the three holes - Uxie will run off.
- Head back onto the elevator and jump to the left to spot Mespirit - it directs you to push the boulder in the hole. Push it down to the next floor, then go down and hop on the elevator to reach 4F.
- On 4F, keep heading up until you see Giratina fly past, then go right until you reach the end. Go down, and you'll find a platform that leads to 3F.
- On 3F, head left and then down onto the materialized platform. Go right, up, and right to find a platform that leads back to 4F.
- On 4F again, head up and use Surf to cross to the right and see Giratina again. Keep heading that way until the perspective changes and push up to jump onto the floating platform.
- Go up to hop onto another platform with a waterfall, and Surf on the water. Head near the waterfall and the current will take you to 5F.
- Azelf appears and directs you to push the boulder in the hole. Push it down, then go left and use the elevator to go to 6F again.
- Back on 6F, Go left and push the boulder down the hole near Mespirit - it will fly away.
- Go to the left and push the boulder down the hole near Azelf - it will fly away.
- Go talk to Cynthia, who's to the south, to activate the elevator leading to 7F.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Cyrus II
- Cyrus uses a level 45 Houndoom, a level 46 Crobat and Gyarados, a level 47 Honchkrow, and a level 48 Weavile.
- As long as you brought an Electric or Ice Pokemon who's level 45 or better, you should be okay. Use Revives to keep your main attacker alive for as long as you can.
- Houndoom is weak against Water Pokemon, being a dual Dark/Fire type. Ground and Fighting also work well against it.
- Honchkrow, Crobat, and Gyarados are all Flying dual types(Dark/Flying, Poison/Flying, and Water/Flying respectively), so a Pokemon that knows Thunder can clean house with these three. Be sure to take out Crobat quickly, as it has some heavy attacks, and take care with Gyarados' Intiimidate ability, which cuts your Pokemon's attack.
- Weavile is a beast - it has high ATK and a lot of Physical attacks. If you have a Pokemon with high DEF who knows Intimidate, use it. Fighting type Pokemon and Infernape's Mach Punch work wonders against it.
- After you defeat Cyrus, he'll leave, and Cynthia will restore your party's HP. Save your game, because Giratina is next. When you're ready, head up to fight it.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Legendary Pokemon Giratina, Origin Form
- Giratina is a level 47 Ghost/Dragon dual type.
- Giratina's attacks include Ominous Wind, Ancient Power, Dragon Claw, and Shadow Force. Ominous Wind and Shadow Force are Ghost attacks, Ancient Power is a Rock attack, and Dragon Claw is a Dragon attack. Be prepared, because they're all powerful.
- If you want to catch Giratina, you'll want to use a Pokemon that knows False Swipe - this attack leaves the foe with at least 1 HP, so a Pokemon who knows False Swipe and a paralyzing attack works best.
- You'll need to have at least 45 Ultra Balls if you don't want to use your Master Ball - Giratina's catch rate is extremely low. Normal type Pokemon work well - Flying types are too weak against the Ancient Power attack. Be sure to keep some Max Revives and Hyper Potions handy.
- Once you capture or defeat Giratina, a portal will open that sends you to Sendoff Spring. Exit the spring, return to Veilstone, and heal at the PC there.
- NOTE: If you caught Giratina, he'll be in his Base Form. You can't get his Origin Form back until after you defeat the Elite Four.
- When you're ready, fly back to Sandgem Town.
-
Sandgem Town
- Head back to Rowan's Lab and he'll inform you that the Legendary Trio are now back at their respective lakes - you can now go catch them if you want, as well. You'll need to have them to obtain the National Dex later anyway.
- To get the final Gym badge, you need to head to Sunyshore City. Fly to Pastoria or Veilstone, head to the resort and leave by the right exit to reach Route 222.
-
Route 222
- Pokemon Encountered:
- Electabuzz
- Magnemite

- Check out some of the houses on this route - you'll find the Pikachu Fan Club, with a Pikachu trainer inside. The house next to it is a fishing competition for Remoraid - catch the big one to obtain a Net Ball.
- When you're finished fighting the trainers and catching Pokemon here, head right to find the gate to Sunyshore City.

- The place north of the Pokemart is the Sticker Mart. There, you can purchase certain stickers on certain days as long as you have the Sticker Case, which you should have obtained in Solaceon Town. Also, there's a lady there who'll give you the Effort Ribbon for your lead Pokemon if it has maxed out its EVs.
- In the northwest of Sunyshore is a house with a girl inside who gives you a ribbon each day for choosing a word. It seems to be random.
- Head to the lighthouse and go north from there to find a climbable cliff - up there is a house where a man will give you Poketch Apps if you show him Pokemon with certain natures.
- When you're finished, head back to the lighthouse(it's in the southeast), and go up the elevator to the top floor. You'll find Volkner, the Gym leader. Talk to him, and he'll return to the Gym. Save, restock your inventory, heal, and head to the Gym.
-
Second Room
- Board the only open platform and press the blue button three times, then get off via the newly made path.
- Get on the left platform and go all the way around, defeat the trainer, and then get on the platform. Press the blue button once to create a path.
- Get on the next platform and press the green button to create a path. Get off on the right side and head over the gear platform, to the ledge where the door is.
-
Third Room
- Board the platform and press the red button once, then get off the platform and go to the platform on the left.
- Press the red button once and exit the platform. Defeat the trainer, then cross the gear bridge to the opposite side. Defeat the next trainer, then board the platform with the green button.
- Press the green button three times, then move down the newly created path. Press the blue button until a path going north to the ledge is created.
- Head to the right, then down, and defeat the trainer. Cross the gear bridge, then head down to the bottom and board the platform on the right and press the red button once. Get off the platform, cross the gear bridge on the right you just came from.
- A path to Volkner will now be open.
-
BOSS FIGHT: Volkner
- Volkner uses a level 46 Raichu and Jolteon, a level 48 Luxray, and a level 50 Electivire.
- Jolteon always comes out first, and is very quick. All of Volkner's party are Electric type Pokemon, so Ground attacks work wonders against them all.
- Luxray has Ice Fang and Crunch, making him difficult to fight with Grass type Pokemon. Electivire has both Thunderpunch and Fire Punch - use Torterra if you can, since it's a bit more resistant to Fire Punch.
- Use Earthquake or Magnitude to defeat Raichu quickly, and you're all set against Volkner.
- After you defeat him, you'll receive the Beacon Badge and TM57(Charge Beam). With all eight badges, you last challenge is to defeat the Elite Four. Restock, make sure you have a Pokemon that knows Strength, Surf, Rock Smash, and Waterfall(which you can get from Jasmine in the northern part of Sunyshore - talk to her to receive HM07(Waterfall) before you start out), because you'll need them all to traverse the route.
- When you're all set, head to the north of Sunyshore City and use Surf to get on Route 223.
-
Route 223
- You'll encounter a lot of the same Pokemon you've already seen, with the possible exceptions of Mantyke and Wailmer(the latter of which you find by using the Super Rod). There's lots of trainers here, and most of them use Water Pokemon, so bring a powerful Electric type to even the odds.
- Be sure to check out every shallow area for items as you continue. When you reach waterfalls, use Waterfall to ascend them and continue until you reach Victory Road.
-
Victory Road 2F
- Use Rock Smash and Strength to get through here. You'll need your Bicycle to get across some ramps to reach the Max Elixir here, as well. Head down from the entrance, use Rock Smash, and you'll see two boulders.
- Push the boulder furthest from you and use Rock Smash on the rock in the way to head right. There are three boulders here - push the top one right and head up to the first floor.Keep heading right to reach the third floor.
-
Victory Road 3F
- Pokemon Encountered:
- Graveler
- Floatzel
- Azumarill
- Onix
- Golbat
- Steelix
- Gabite
- Fishing/Surfing Pokemon Encountered:
- Floatzel - Surf
- Golbat - Surf
- Magikarp - Old Rod
- Gyarados - Super Rod
- Use Surf to head right and then Waterfall. Follow the path to another waterfall, but keep heading left.
- Past the trainer are some stairs - use them, then take the south path at the junction and use Rock Climb on the ledge to your right.
- If you check the left ledge first, you can get the TM for Dark Pulse. Cross the bridge, and you can see an exit. Take it, and use Surf and Waterfall to reach the Pokemon League.
