- Whiscash - Super Rod
- National Dex Pokemon Encountered:
- Bagon - Radar
- Zangoose - Ruby
- Seviper - Sapphire
- Catch the Pokemon you encounter as needed, and head down the route. The first part of it is covered in long grass, making the use of your Bike impossible. You'll also notice that there are a few ninja trainers that are hidden around the area - you can tell where they are by the small bump in the ground.
- As you head farther north, the route becomes foggy - this actually interferes with your battles, as it cuts the accuracy of both your Pokemon and your opponent's Pokemon, which leads to long, tedious battles. Teach Defog(which you obtained from the Solaceon Ruins earlier) to a bird Pokemon to clear the area during fights.
- Be sure to have some Super Potions and Revives, as there are a ton of trainers on the bridge. After you cross the bridge, you'll find yourself in Celectic Town.
Celestic Town
- This is a small town - there's no Gym, and no Pokemart. There is a shop in the upper left of the area that sells some decent rare items, like Quick Balls. This is also the location where the owner will give you certain items at certain times - see the Pokemon_Platinum_Walkthrough_Side_Quests section for more information.
- On the lower right of the ditch in the center of town is a Dragon Fang, so be sure to grab it. Head up the steps ont he right and then go down to where the ball is to obtain it.
- Be sure to stock up on any items you need.

- When you're prepared, head to the center of town and talk to the Galactic Grunt to begin a battle.
BOSS FIGHT: Galactic Grunt
- This grunt uses a level 32 Houndour and a level 30 Goldbat.
- To beat the Houndour, use some Water or Ground type attacks. The Golbat is the same as what you should be accustomed to fighting by now - pelt it with Electic/Ice/Psychic type attacks to drop it quickly. A level 40+ Psyduck/Golduck should work well against both, provided it has Water Gun and Confusion.
- After you defeat the grunt, an old woman will thank you. You'll automatically hand over the charm you got from Cynthia, and the woman will lead you to the ruins and explain some things - after which, Cyrus appears and challenges you.
BOSS FIGHT: Cyrus
- Cyrus uses a level 34 Sneasel, a level 34 Goldbat, and a level 36 Murkrow.
- Sneasel is weak against Fire and Fighting type attacks, so use Monferno/Infernape to take it down with ease. Golbat still falls as easily to Psyduck/Golduck as ever, and Murkrow is weak against Ice and Electric type attacks, so bring out Jolteon if you have it, or any Pokemon with Blizzard.
- After you defeat Cyrus, he leaves, and Cynthia's grandmother gives you HM03(Surf). Teach it to a water Pokemon to be able to travel across large bodies of water(as well as collect any Pokemon from the "Fishing/Surfing Pokemon Encountered" lists).
- Head outside, and Cynthia will tell you to head to Canalave City from Jublife City. You can either head there right now, or check out Route 211 on the left of Celestic Town.
Route 211(Celestic)
- Pokemon Encountered:
- Meditite
- Machoke
- Bronzor
- Chingling
- Graveler
- Zubat
- Noctowl
- Fishing/Surfing Pokemon Encountered:
- None
- National Dex Pokemon Encountered:
- Tyrogue - Radar
- This area is optional - you don't have to visit it to finish the game. There are four berry trees here with Pecha, Aspear, Iapapa, and Grepa berries, and a Sweet Honey Tree that is near a flight area.
- This area also has some decent level trainers, and a few evolved versions of previously encountered Pokemon. Use Vs. Seeker here to continuously battle the trainers until you're level 45+ with your party Pokemon, then head to Jublife City.
Jublife City
- As soon as you enter, head north and then left as you hit the TV Station, then head through the gatehouse and you'll reach Route 218.
Route 218

- National Dex Pokemon Encountered:
- Voltorb - Swarm
- Now that you have Surf, you can collect the "Fishing/Surfing Pokemon Encountered" Pokemon listed above, as well as reach Canalave City. Be sure to look around in the tall grass before you use Surf - Mr. Mime and Chatot are two new Pokemon you can collect before heading off.
- Use Surf, and you'll battle a few trainers as you head to the city - go left to find the gate to Canalave City. Inside, you'll meet Dawn again - she'll update your Pokedex so you can tell between male and female Pokemon.
Canalave City
- As soon as you arrive, head to the PC to heal. Be sure to check the Pokemart for some new items as well.

- As soon as you cross the bridge, you'll run into your rival, and a battle ensues.
BOSS FIGHT: Rival
- Your rival uses different Pokemon depending on what you chose as your starter:
- Turtwig: lvl 36 Staraptor, lvl 35 Floatzel, lvl 37 Heracross, lvl 35 Roserade, lvl 38 Infernape
- Chimchar: lvl 36 Staraptor, lvl 35 Roserade, lvl 37 Heracross, lvl 35 Rapidash, lvl 38 Empoleon
- Pinplup: lvl 36 Staraptor, lvl 35 Floatzel, lvl 37 Heracross, lvl 35 Rapidash, lvl 38 Torterra
- The suggested level for your party Pokemon is 45+ to make the fight easier on yourself. All of the types are the same as the last fight - they're simply higher in level and evolved if possible. Floatzel is weak against Electric and Grass, Rapidash is weak against Ground and Water, and Roserade is weak against Bug/Ice/Psychic/Ground/Fire. Staraptor is still weak against Ice and Electric.
- The minimum level you can be and still win without a lot of luck on your side is level 30. Depending on what starter he has, use Water/Ice/Flying/Psychic against Infernape, Fire/Ice/Bug/Flying against Torterra, and Fighting/Ground/Electric against Empoleon.
- Heracross is weak against Psychic, Flying, and Fire type attacks. Some recommended Pokemon to bring to the battle are Jolteon with Thunder, Magmar/Flareon/Ponyta with a Fire attack, Torterra/Leafeon with Giga Drain, any Pokemon with Blizzard, and a Flying type Pokemon with Wing Attack.
- After you defeat your rival, he'll tell you to go to Iron Island. You can now check out Canalave City in a bit more depth - the move deleter is located north of the Pokemart, and a Library you need to go to after you beat the Gym. When you're ready to ship out to Iron Island, head to the west of the city and head down to the docks. Talk to the captain to ship out.
Iron Island
- NOTE: There's an optional quest on Iron Island to get an egg that hatches into a Pokemon you need for the National Dex. If you go, deposit a Pokemon so that you have an empty slot to carry the egg, and don't catch any Pokemon until after you receive it.
- Once you arrive, head up the stairs and past the house to find Riley, who's blocking the entrance. Talk to him to receive HM04(Strength), which lets you move heavy rocks. Riley then tells you that he's going to train, and you can follow him - it's optional, but suggested to raise your party level.
- When you enter the mountain, you objective is to get Riley and take him to a certain point in the island. To get to him, do the following steps:
- Enter the mountain, head down the set of stairs on the right, head up and right until you find a second pair of stairs. Head up them and on the ledge, ignoring the first set of stairs. Go down, then left to find a lift - go down the lift and you'll see two paths. Take the left path.
- You'll find Riley there, and team up with him. Riley has a Lucario that is very powerful. You'll start fighting 2 vs. 2 battles again - it's time to find and defeat the Galactic Grunts. To find them:
- Head left until you get into a double battle with the grunts there. After defeating them, head down, then right, then down, and then right to fight another double battle against more grunts.
- Defeat them, then go down the path to find stairs - ascend the stairs and go down to fight another pair of grunts. After you defeat them, head down the stairs, down, then up the stairs on the left to find the last two grunts.
BOSS FIGHT: Galactic Grunts
- The grunts here use all level 34 Pokemon - Zubt, Glameow, Croagunk, Stunky, Houndour, and Golbat to be precise.
- This will be a double battle with Riley using Lucario as support. Psychic and Electric attacks will work on most of the opponent's Pokemon, with the exception of Stunky, who's part Dark. Use Ground or Fighting attacks against Stunky to take it down, as well as the Houndour, which is also weak against Water type attacks.
- After you defeat the grunts, Riley will give you an Egg. If you don't have room for it, he'll wait there until you go and deposit a Pokemon in Someone's PC. After you get the egg, Riley leaves - you see him again as a Battle Tower partner.
- You can find a Shiny Stone near the exit where you fought the Galactic grunts, as well as a Metal Coat by entering the square room near the exit. When you're finished, head back to Canalave City and enter the Gym.
Canalave Gym
- You'll need to fight almost every trainer here due to their placement, but it's good for your EXP. To get to the Gym leader, do the following steps, fighting trainers as necessary:
- Head to the right and down at the first turn, and get on the fourth platform. Head down the path to the next platform, then head to the next platform on the path. Get on the moving platform, and get off on the next platform you come to. Head to the northern platform from there, and go past the first platform you see and on the upper platform.
- From there, right the next platform over - it's rather linear from here, so keep moving until you find the red platform, which takes you to the Gym leader, Byron.
BOSS FIGHT: Byron
- Byron uses a level 37 Magneton, a level 38 Steelix, and a level 41 Bastiodon.
- Byron uses mainly Steel dual types - Magneton is Electric/Steel, Steelix is Ground/Steel, and Bastiodon is Rock/Steel. Steel have the highest defense, but relatively low attack power. Magneton is weak against Ground attacks, and Fire is also useful.
- Steelix is pretty weak against Water, Fire, and Fighting type attacks. Ground attacks also does decent damage, so no matter what starter Pokemon you chose, pull it out to get an easy win.
- To defeat Bastiodon, use Water, Fighting, or Ground type attacks - again, whatever starter you picked, pull them out and let them wreak havoc upon Bastiodon. You'll want to be level 45+ with your party Pokemon to finish this fight without any problems.
- After you defeat Byron, you'll obtain the Mine Badge and TM91(Flash Cannon). Head outside, and your rival will tell you to head to the Library, whichi s in the northwest.
- When you arrive at the Library, your rival, Rowan, and Dawn will all be there on the top floor. Rowan will tell you that the three lakes are in trouble, and should be investigated, starting with Lake Valor.
- To get to Lake Valor, which is south of Veilstone, use Fly to reach Veilstone, then go south near the lakefront. The path that was blocked earlier is now open, so follow it to reach Lake Valor.
BOSS FIGHT: Commander Saturn
- Saturn uses a level 38 Golbat and Bronzor, and a level 40 Toxicroak.
- Use the usual thing to defeat Golbat, which are Ice/Psychic/Rock/Electric type attacks. When it falls, Toxicroak will appear.
- Toxicroak is the evolution of Croagunk, and it is still weak against Flying, Psychic, and Ground type attacks. Defeat it, and Bronzor will come out.
- Bronzor likes to use Extrasensory and can sometimes confuse you. Use Fire and Fighting type attacks against him - perfect if you picked Chimchar as your starter, which ought to be Monferno/Infernape by now. Mach Punch and Flame Wheel will kill it quickly.
- When you finish, you'll need to get to Fly to Lake Verity.
BOSS FIGHT: Commander Mars
- Mars uses a level 38 Golbat and Bronzor, and a level 40 Purugly.
- Again, use Ice/Psychic/Electric type attacks against Golbat - when it falls, you'll fight Bronzor.
- Bronzor is weak against Fire and Fighting type attacks - Monferno/Infernape with Mach Punch and Flame Wheel is still your best bet if you picked it as your starter.
- Purugly is the toughest of Mars' party, but you ought to be able to defeat it with Monferno/Infernape. Bring some Revives and Super Potions to help you keep the upper hand.
- When you defeat Mars, she'll tell you that Lake Acuity is also under attack. You can't Fly there, because you've never been to Lake Acuity - it's also pretty far away.
- Head back to Celestic Town and take the left route. After passing through Mt. Coronet, take the north path(be sure to have Strength and Defog). When you get out of the cave, you'll be on Route 216.
Route 216
- Pokemon Encountered:
- Snover
- Meditite
- Sneasel
- Graveler
- Zubat
- Snorunt
- Fishing/Surfing Pokemon Encountered:
- None
- National Dex Pokemon Encountered:
- Ursaring - Emerald
- You'll finally be able to get a hold of some Ice type Pokemon - be sure to snag Snover, which is a dual Ice/Grass type - it takes four times the damage from Fire attacks, but takes no damage from Ice attacks.
- Sneasel is a Dark/Ice dual type that is a decent Dark type. Be sure to get it and a Snorunt, which evolves into a Ghost type Pokemon, Frosslass, with the right stone.
- It's snowing here, which means that you'll be affected by the Hail condition during battles - it causes a bit of damage every turn for any non-Ice Pokemon in battle.
- There's a rest stop near the end of this route that you can use to heal up before continuing to Route 217. When you get there, you'll be greeted by Maylene, the 4th Gym leader.
Route 217
- Pokemon Encountered:
- Snover
- Sneasel
- Swinub
- Snorunt
- Fishing/Surfing Pokemon Encountered:
- None
- National Dex Pokemon Encountered:
- Delibird
- Piloswine
- Ursaring
- Grab Piloswine - his third evolution, Mamoswine, is a very powerful Ice/Ground dual type.
- This route is harder due to the snow - have to constantly move forward, and you move slower. There aren't that many trainers here, thankfully.
- Stay on the left of the route to find a house - behind it on the right side, press A to find HM08(Rock Climb). There's also a snow-covered rock on the right of the route, near the end. If you have the Eevee from Hearthome, you can level it around this stone to obtain its Glaceon evolution.
- Keep moving north, and stick to the left - stay near the wall until a tree blocks your path, then head right until you find the path going north. You'll wind up in the grassy area near Lake Acuity - you need Rock Climb to reach it, however, and the Snowpoint Gym Badge to use it outside of battle. Follow the right path to reach Snowpoint City.
