The Plumeria Tree
The plumeria, or frangipani, is a flowering shrub or small tree which grows in tropical climates. The plant produces white, yellow, pink or red flowers that range from two to four inches across. The flower is fragrant and waxy with five petals, each tucked under one of its neighboring petals and layered above the other. The leaves are large and leathery, growing up to 20 inches long and 3 inches wide. The plant needs a frost free environment to survive.FloriData: Plumeria spp. Common Species: Plumeria rubra; Plumeria obtusa; Plumeria pudicahttp://www.hear.org/starr/plants/images/search/?q=Plumeria
Starting Your Own Plumeria Plant
This video demonstrates how easy it is to have success propagating and raising Plumeria plants that will provide beautiful blooms. In this video, an untrained gardener has attempted to propagate four different Plumeria cuttings, with three of them surviving. Watch this video to see how to check your established cuttings to see if they have survived, and also to get a good look at potted Plumeria plants and their growth.

Plumeria Gardening Tips
- Mahalo's Guide to Gardening
- Plumeria has shallow roots. it's best to let a plumeria in a pot dry out until there is a separation between the pot and the soil before transplanting. Tilt the pot on it's side and carefully tap the pot against the ground, Then pull the plumeria sideways out ot the pot. This will limit the damage to the plant.
- The bark of a young plumeria is extremely fragile. Weed trimmers can easily damage the trunk. Cut the bottom out of an old plastic pot and put it over the plant before transferring the plant into the ground.
- After planting a cutting in a pot, cover the soil around the trunk with small rocks. This will limit depressions, caused by watering, to form. White rock is very attractive and makes a nice contrast to the yellow or red flowers.
