Another carcass of a mysterious creature appeared on the shores of Montauk, New York, on May 5, 2009. Early reports of the so-called Montauk Monster have speculated a connection between the Plum Island Animal Disease Center and the creature. Some people have speculated that a dead creature found on a Montauk, New York, beach may have been from the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. On July 29, 2008, a photo of a hard-to-identify creature was posted on the blog Gawker. The photo was allegedly shot on the beach in Montauk, New York. Gawker: Dead Monster Washes Ashore in Montauk (July 29, 2008)In May of 2009 another mysterious creature washed up along the shores of Montauk. Witness present at the time state that the monster smelled like a "combination of "low-tide and rotten garbage." It is unknown whether the incident is connected to the Animal Disease Center on the island or a marketing ploy.
