The 1998 fantasy/drama film written, produced, and directed by Gary Ross stars Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon as siblings who get transported into a 1950s sitcom.
Plot Summary
David (Tobey Maguire) loves to watch Pleasantville, a Leave It to Beaver-style sitcom about the residents of an idyllic town. David's sister, Jennifer, openly mocks him about his affinity for the show. However, when the two teens are mysteriously transported into the black and white world of Pleasantville, they introduce its residents to a world of color and passion. Pleasantville is irrevocably changed as its inhabitants are divided between the simple, yet boring life that existed before color and the exciting, but imperfect new world the two teens have opened up.
