  • The Miracle Worker

The Miracle Worker was a play based on the education of the late deaf and blind Helen Keller. The play made its Broadway debut in 1959 and was subsequently made into a movie in 1962. The production was directed by Arthur Penn and starred Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke. New York Times critic Brooks Atkinson had this to say about the play: "Nothing in the theater this season is so overwhelming as the last inarticulate but eloquent scene in which a frantic little girl for the first time understands the meaning of a word and realizes that the teacher is not a fiend but a friend. One small but blinding ray of light has penetrated the frightening darkness."Yahoo! News: William Gibson dies at 94 (November 27, 2008)
