• PlayStation Home is Sony's 3D community network for PS3 users. The service is a virtual world, enabling users to create a personalized digital avatar and "home." Players travel through town, connecting with other PlayStation Home users from all over the world, joining in games, streaming music and taking part in other social activities. It is a free service available for direct download over the PlayStation Network.

• Environment

  In addition to meeting in a town square type area, PlayStation Home users will have apartments with choice of decor and furnishings, to which they may invite friends. When visiting someone's "home," users can stream the host's music and videos from their HDD, and photos via a virtual picture frame. The basic apartment is free with many customization options.

  In addition to personal spaces, PlayStation Home will also consist of playable arcade-game settings, as well as social activities such as pool and bowling.

  Home plans to play host to special events, such as exclusive game previews and developer interviews. Sporting and concert events may also be broadcast within Home, prepayable via the Sony Wallet System. Its virtual cinema will screen films that have been released on DVD/Blu-ray. Games and game developers have been allotted space to showcase their products, including EA, Activision, SEGA, Ubisoft, Rockstar Games and THQ. This could expand to companies outside of gaming in the future.
