Planters Super Bowl Ad

Nut distributors Planters ran a new ad during the Super Bowl XLV pre-show on February 6, 2011. The digitally animated ad features the recognizable mascot Mr. Peanut introducing a new character, the almond matador Alejandro. The voice of Mr. Peanut in the ad is provided by actor Robert Downey Jr.

Although the commercial conveys Mr. Peanut as a ladies man in the world of Planters peanuts, when danger strikes, Alejandro the almond comes to the rescue. An out of control beetle reeks havoc on the town and Alejandro is able to wrangle the beast like a true spanish matador. 

The commercial is tied in to a Facebook promotion for Planters new line of almonds as well. Logging on to the Planters Facebook page brings up a coupon for a free $3.49 bag of Planters Flavor Grove Almonds.
