Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition felt in the heel caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is the tissue along the bottom of your foot that connects your toes to your heal. The pain is usually worse in the morning from the fascia contracting overnight and eases up after the foot limbers up. It can also cause pain when jogging or exercising and during sports activities.American Family Physcian: Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis (February 1, 2001)
