- 1971: George Harrison successfully sued due to similarities between his song "My Sweet Lord" and "He's So Fine" by The Chiffons
- 1976: John Lennon was sued by Chuck Berry's music publisher Morris Levy for borrowing a line from Berry's "You Can't Catch Me" for his song "Come Together"
- 1993: Killing Joke sued Nirvana for using the riff to their song "Eighties" in the latter's song "Come as You Are"
- 1994: John Fogerty unsuccessfully sued for plagiarizing himself
- 2007: Hip-Hop producer Timbaland accused of stealing from Nelly Furtado
