History
Pixar began as the computer graphics division of George Lucas' Lucasfilm, but was purchased by Steve Jobs for $10 million in 1986 and established as an independent company. Through the late 1980s and early 1990s, Pixar focused on producing short films and commercials. In 1991, Pixar and Disney entered an agreement to co-produce up to three animated feature films. Pixar went public and put up 6.9 million shares for sale in 1995, the same year its first feature film, Toy Story was released. In 1997, Pixar and Disney superseded their previous agreement and entered another which would produce five more animated features.-
