The University of Pittsburgh football team plays college football in the Big East Conference. The team is coached by former Panthers alumnus Dave Wannstedt. Pittsburgh plays their home games at Heinz Field, which is also home to the NFL franchise the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh History
The Panthers have been a member of the Big East since 1991. Before that, they played as an independent school. The program has won four national championships. Perhaps the greatest season in school history was in 1976, when they not only featured Heisman Trophy winner Tony Dorsett, but also won the national championship. The arch rival of the Panthers are the West Virginia Mountaineers, and the teams meet annually in the Backyard Brawl.Great Pittsburgh Players
