Pirates of the Amazon is a add-on for the Firefox Web browser. It alerts users browsing the selection of Amazon.com to see if any media is available as a BitTorrent download on the popular Pirate Bay tracker. If a message reading "Download for Free" pops up on any page featuring a film, music album, video game or publication, a user can automatically begin downloading the item for free. Most of these free downloads violate copyright law, and are therefore illegal.

The Pirate bay launched in Sweden on November 21, 2003, with the aim of helping anonymous users access digital copies of films, TV shows, music, software and documents for free.
