  • The Pink Sari Gang, also known as Gulabi (pink) Gang is a group of several hundred vigilante women of India's northern Uttar Pradesh state's Banda area. The aim of the group is led by Sampat Pal Devi, former government health worker, mother of five children and wife of an ice cream vendor. The group's aim is to fight for justice by shaming men who have abandoned or beaten their wives and unearthing corruption in the distribution of grain to the poor. The Pink Sari Gang shuns political parties and NGOs who look for kickbacks when they offer the group funding. In the two years since the group gave themselves a name and donned their pink saris, they have fought poverty, discrimination and combated crime and chauvinism.
