Pinkeye is a fairly common eye infection that results in redness and swelling of the eye and protective membranes. It can be caused by allergic reactions or may be due to a bacterial or viral infection. Home Treatment
- Wash your hands frequently, especially after touching the eye area
- Do not share cosmetics, towels or facecloths
- Wash pillowcases, towels and facecloths frequently
- Do not wear contact lenses until the infection has cleared up
- Apply warm compresses to the affected area 3-4 times per day
- Use over-the-counter eye drops or artificial tears to relieve itching and dryness
