  • Pink is a two-time Grammy-winning American singer/songwriter who gained prominence in 2000.

Pink performed her single "Sober" at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 13, 2009. Pink's performance of the song included a full acrobatics routine. On the night of the awards, both Pink and singer Shakira wore the same dress.

Pink is a vegetarian and a campaigner for PETA, protesting the use of real fur.

  • Career

Pink's father, a guitarist and singer, was her earliest influence in music. Pink also plays the guitar. As a teenager, she started writing songs.

In high school, Pink was in a band, Middleground, who were rivals with another local band, The Jetsists. Middleground faded after losing a band competition with The Jetsists, who won first place.

At 16, Pink joined an R&B group, Choice, with bandmate Chrissy Conway of the Christian all-girl group, ZOEgirl.

At 17, Pink joined LaFace Records, with Kenneth (Babyface) Edmonds and sang back-up vocals on the soundtrack Key to My Heart for the movie Kazaam.

In 2001, Pink recorded Lady Marmalade with Lil Kim, Mya and Christina Aguilera, for the Moulin Rouge film soundtrack. “Lady Marmalade”, originally recorded by LaBelle in 1975, won the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year.

Her first album, Cant Take Me Home, was notably more pop/R&B oriented than her follow up efforts. The album scored Pink her first Top 10 hit, There You Go. In 2001, she brought out a more edgy side to her music with the album M!ssundaztood. M!ssundaztood would go on to be Pink's most successful album to date, spawning such hits as Get the Party Started, Dont Let Me Get Me, Just like a Pill and Family Portrait. Her single "Family Portrait" was her view on her parents' divorce, and her feelings that her parents were somehow divorcing her as well. It was several years before she came to terms with the fact that she would not be instrumental in getting her parents back together.

In 2003, after her third album, Try This, didn't perform as well as M!ssundaztood, Pink took a break from recording. Her return album, Im Not Dead, garnered worldwide success. Her most recent album, Funhouse, was released in October of 2008.
