Pineapple Upside Down Cake

  • Pineapple upside down cake is made by adding pineapple slices, maraschino cherries, and brown sugar to the bottom of a skillet or baking pan, then adding the cake batter on top. Once the cake is cooked, it is turned over and presented "upside down".

    • Pineapple slices
    • Maraschino cherries

    • Brown sugar
    • Eggs, vegetable oil and water may also be required per specific cake mix directions.

  • How to Make Pineapple Upside Down Cake

    1. Preheat the oven according to package instructions.
    2. Prepare the cake mix batter according to the package directions and set aside.
    3. Place pats of butter onto the bottom of a 13" x 9" baking pan, then sprinkle with the brown sugar.
    4. Bake the butter and sugar for five minutes, or until the butter melts into a syrupy consistency.
    5. Arrange the pineapple slices over the butter and brown sugar first, then fill in remaining areas with the cherries.
    6. Pour the cake batter over the pineapple and cherries.
    7. Bake for the time specified on the cake mix package.
    8. Immediately after baking, invert the cake onto a serving platter.
    9. Let cool, slice and enjoy!
