Be sure and take care of the wood so it lasts. Wash often with a mild soap and bleach solution to kill off mildew. If you see that the water is soaking into the wood rather than beading up, apply a sealer to the wood. Replace split boards with new ones.
Wrought iron picnic tables are strong and can be shaped artistically. The main problem with wrought iron is that it can rust. Before buying a wrought iron picnic table, check what coatings were used to make sure the table won't rust.
