Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is a popular image editing program developed by Adobe Systems. It is available for several operating systems including Microsoft Windows operating systems and Mac OS X. Photoshop is particularly well-regarded in the graphic design industry, often the image editing program of choice for many graphic designers. Photoshop works primarily with raster graphics, which are graphics composed of several pixels or various different colors. It also has some tools, but Adobe Systems produces another imaging tool specifically for vector graphics called Adobe Illustrator.http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/compare/

The program was released in the winter of 1990 with version 1.0. Since then, Photoshop has gone through many different changes with its abilities and layout. The original format was created by two brothers, Thomas and John Knoll. The brothers found their interest in photography and art through their father, who had a personal dark room in their childhood home. Since then, the program has turned into a multimillion dollar operation and the name of the program itself has become a slang verb for any image that has been edited digitally.http://www.computerarts.co.uk/in_depth/features/the_history_of_photoshop

Before Photoshop was a commercially available editing program, it started as "ImagePro" in 1988. At this point John Knoll suggested to his brother Thomas that they make the program available to the public. Some of the companies that were offered the publishing rights to Photoshop declined because of already having similar photo editing programs. After pitching the idea to a variety of different publishing companies, Adobe finally offered to work with the brothers and by 1990, version 1.0 of Photoshop was in production after ten months of development. http://www.storyphoto.com/multimedia/multimedia_photoshop.html
